Former Minister Malusi Gigaba has successfully obtained a temporary court order to stop the airing of an interview featuring his ex-wife, Noma Mngoma, on the Showmax series "Untied."
The interview, which delves into the turbulent aspects of their marriage, including allegations of infidelity, pornography addiction, and misuse of public funds, has raised significant public interest and concern.
In the application, MultiChoice is cited as the first respondent, while Goat Originals, which produced the show, is the second respondent, and Mngoma is the third.
Gigaba's legal action comes after he received a WhatsApp communication from Vanessa Tloubatla, the executive producer of the show, who wanted to give a right to reply to allegations that were made against him.
"Vanessa indicated that the third respondent (Mngoma) shared her experience of our former marriage particularly; her own perspective about our marriage; allegations of infidelity, pornography, the incident involving the hawks and further allegations about the use of taxpayer's money for personal trips," read the court documents.
Gigaba said upon receiving the email, he sought legal advice to evaluate the potential impact of these allegations on his public standing as he was in the process of rebuilding his name which was already tainted by past allegations.
Gigaba said that through his attorneys, he requested a copy of the podcast, and he was provided with a summarised version of the interview.
He said the interview contained allegations of personal nature with respect to his private life and there were further allegations regarding his professional life as a former minister.
'In light of the aforesaid, the second respondent (Goat Originals) makes the following unfounded allegations with respect to my private life: That I was engaged in multiple extramarital affairs during the subsistence of our marriage; I was addicted to pornography; and further that I was involved in her arrest,' he said.
Gigaba said after his attorneys exchanged emails with the production company, he was subsequently provided snippets of the interview for the purpose of watching.
Gigaba said that after watching the snippets, he advised his legal team of his desire to interdict the broadcasting of the interview on the basis that its sole import and effect was to taint his good name, and it was not in the public interest.

Gigaba provided a short conversation which Mngoma had with the host.
The Host: The extravagant lifestyle was rumoured to be taxpayer's money.
The Host: Did any of the girls bring photographs to show that he cheated?
Mngoma: None of them brought photos, in a form of an image, but they screenshot messages and send them to me.
The Host: If you go to counselling, he will say I have got a problem, what was he saying his problem is?
Mngoma: He would blame his father, because his father was a priest, he grew up looking up to his father and his father cheated on his mother.
The Host: So, he inherited this from his father?
Mngoma: He would say I am going to deal with it and doesn't know why he's doing it.
Gigaba said there was no evidence of any extravagant lifestyle, he lived according to his position as a Minister.
"At the Zondo Commission, she made a sworn claim that I was broke and she was the one responsible for purchasing all our household assets, as a result she claimed all of them as part of the divorce settlement."
The statements infringe his dignity and good name.
"The third respondent made statements that infringe my dignity and a good name."
As Gigaba navigates these accusations, he insists that since he resigned as minister, he has lived a private life and is in the process of rebuilding his name.
Furthermore, he condemned Mngoma's public disclosures about their family life and professional life, claiming it infringes upon his dignity and reputation.
"I have never gone around in public platforms, on social media or electronic printing seeking attention to talk about the third respondent (Mngoma) or diminish her good name. Instead, she is the one dragging my name unprovoked."
The airing of the controversial episode has been temporarily blocked, with the case set to return to court on 7 July for further consideration as more documents are to be submitted.
Gigaba served in government in 2010 and 2018, with stints as Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Public Enterprises, and Minister of Finance.

Lasizwe cuts ties with MultiChoice amid podcast payment dispute

Lasizwe's podcast, Awkward Dates, was among eight original shows announced by MultiChoice in March this year to air on its DStv platforms. Media personality and YouTuber Thulasizwe 'Lasizwe' Dambuza has reportedly parted ways with MultiChoice. This follows a dispute involving unpaid fees and an alleged breach of agreement with social media influencer Dominic Zaca. Lasizwe's podcast, Awkward Dates, was among eight original shows announced by MultiChoice in March this year to air on its DStv platforms. However, according to City Press the collaboration has allegedly collapsed due to controversy over guest compensation. Zaca took to TikTok, accusing Lasizwe and his team of airing her episode on television without her consent. Zaca claimed their agreement restricted distribution to social media platforms only. 'Lasizwe Dambuza, would you and your team like to pay me for breaching the contract we had? 'You guys breached a verbal contract, you breached a written contract, and I don't know what contract you gave to MultiChoice. I would think that MultiChoice would not air my episode, knowing full well that I did not sign that contract in full agreement.' Zaca alleged that the production team and Lasizwe had ignored attempts to resolve the matter privately. 'I've been trying to settle this privately with emails and phone calls, but you're just ignoring me. Unfortunately, my job is my face, my voice, and my body — that's how I support my family, so you are basically using me.' When guest Cyan Boujee asked Lasizwe how much he owed Zaca, he responded dismissively: 'Who's that?' He then asked Cyan how much she believed he owed Zaca, since she had also featured on Awkward Dates. Cyan replied that he owed her nothing, to which Lasizwe said, 'Thank you,' before moving on from the topic. NOW READ: Boitshepo Lamola to fly SA flag at Miss Grand International 2025 in Bangkok

Five minutes with Khanyisa Jam Jam on how cancel culture affects comedians

Fresh from being crowned the 2025 Comics Awards breakthrough act of the year, comedian Khanyisa Jam Jam features in Showmax's upcoming Laugh Africa Comedy Club Series. Khanyisa features first in a line-up which includes Vafa Naraghi, Kagiso 'KG' Mokgadi, Rory Petzer, Hannes Brümmer, Kate Pinchuck, Lindy Johnson, Melt Sieberhagen, Thabiso Mhlongo and American comedian Griff. The Laugh Africa Comedy Club Series is four episodes jam-packed with raw laughs, real moments and performances. Ahead of its premier on June 13, Khanyisa spoke about the journey of his career and more: When did you realise you were funny and could turn it into a career? Probably in 2023 when I was nominated for the Comics Choice newcomer award. That's when I thought, 'I think I can be a professional stand-up comedian'. It felt like a real moment of validation. What was your worst bomb on stage and how did you recover? My worst bomb was opening for my mentor, Kagiso 'KG' Mokgadi, at the National Arts Festival. I bombed so badly the first night, I genuinely thought my career was over. I was devastated. But KG said, 'Hey bra, let's go get some KFC.' That small moment helped me realise bombing happens to everyone, and I had to get over it. With everyone creating content and TikTok full of 'funny people', how do you keep your comedy fresh while staying true to your voice? I stick to topics I'm comfortable with, what feels natural to me. If I find it funny, I post it. If it goes viral, cool. If it doesn't, it's not a train smash. I won't lose sleep over it. Do you think cancel culture has censored comedians? I think it depends. I can separate the artist from the art but people have the right to cancel whoever they want. At a wedding, when an R Kelly song plays, people will dance. It's complicated. Cancel culture can be selective, and that's something we all have to navigate. How do you handle criticism, specially in a public and personal art form? When it comes to my stand-up, I'm very protective. If someone in the audience gives constructive feedback, I listen. But if someone criticises a video online? Scroll past it. If it's not for you, that's OK. If your life was a sitcom, what would it be called and who would play you? I'd want Cedric the Entertainer to play me. I don't know what the name would be, but it'd definitely be about how I used to lie to my day job to do gigs. Trying to balance comedy and a 9 to 5 was a comedy show on its own. In your family, who's the funniest?

'Risked it all': Where is Nandipha Magudumana's husband?

Nandipha Maguduman's recent court appearance has left many South Africans questioning how and why she gave up her glamorous and successful life – and her marriage – to embark on a criminal spree with fellow-accused, Thabo Bester. The alleged couple are currently facing charges of orchestrating his 2022 prison escape, defrauding the public, and violating multiple bodies. They appeared at the Free State High Court for a pre-trial hearing, which has been postponed to 19 September. Their trial is set to begin on 10 November at the Bloemfontein High Court. With all eyes on Nandipha, many want to know where her other half, Mr Magudumana, is. Despite being a married woman, the celebrity aesthetics doctor allegedly embarked on an affair with Thabo Bester while he was behind bars for a rape and murder conviction in 2012. At the time, Nandipha was married to Mkhuseli Magudumana, who is a paediatric medical doctor. The former couple shares two daughters together: Ayana and Aziza. But according to an affidavit, Nandipha claimed she was Bester's 'customary wife.' In a tweet posted following her arrest, former friend Redi Tlhabi claims the couple divorced in 2022. However, conflicting reports claim that Nandipha is still legally married to Mkhuseli Magudumana, who has kept a low profile since her arrest. Where is Nandipha Magudumana's husband Mkhuseli? Images via Instagram: @drnandi/ Showmax In Nandipha's 2024 bail application, she revealed that she is currently separated from her husband. In a sworn statement, Nandipha claimed that she met Thabo Bester at Wits University in 2006, where he allegedly studied theology. Official reports have revealed that Bester only has a grade 7 education. Nandipha also claimed that she and Bester began dating in 2017, and he paid lobola for her in 2020. While Nandipha Magudumana's frail appearance has concerned many South Africans, others have claimed that she is merely playing the public empathy card. Some even insinuated that she was no better than Thabo Bester himself. In court appearances, Nandipha Magudumana has appeared to read her Bible, pray, and sing, all while under the watchful eye of clicking cameras. Months after her arrest, the mom-of-two was in tears when her attorney claimed that Thabo Bester had 'forced' her to skip the country with her. In a letter written during Women's Month, Nandipha also claimed that she was abused by many men in her life, possibly including Bester.
