The pain was enough to reduce him to tears and it looked as though his day was done before it had even begun.
But in a true display of determination, Rodallega battled on, refusing to leave the field despite his obvious discomfort.
As the game wore on, Santa Fe and Medellin were locked at 1-1 and with time running out, it seemed like a penalty shootout might be the only way to decide the outcome.
But just when it seemed like the game was slipping away, Edwar Lopez produced a moment of magic on the left wing, slicing through the Medellin defence with an electrifying run before delivering a perfect cross into the box.

Irish keeper Mark Travers makes €4.6m switch to Everton from Bournemouth to become Jordan Pickford's back-up
The 26-year-old has departed Bournemouth after nine years at the club that he joined as a 17-year-old and opted for a move to Merseyside in a deal worth €4.6m, where he will be back-up to first-choice goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. The Maynooth man had been finding minutes hard to come by at the Cherries of late and after five league starts across the first half of last season, he spent the second half of the campaign on loan in the Championship with Middlesbrough. Competition at the club for next term was set to be fierce after Bournemouth agreed a deal to sign Chelsea's 'keeper Djordje Petrovic for £25m last weekend, with Neto and Alex Paulsen also returning from their loan spells. Travers has now completed his summer move to Everton where he'll link up with fellow Irish internationals Jake O'Brien, and club captain Séamus Coleman. Travers, capped four times by Ireland, departs the Vitality Stadium having made 82 appearances, including a man-of-the-match display in a win against Spurs on his top-flight debut in 2019. Everton were in the market for a new goalkeeper following the departures of Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia. Now, with David Moyes' side preparing for a new campaign in their brand new 53,000-seater stadium on Bramley Moore Dock, ex-Shamrock Rovers man Travers is relishing his new chapter after becoming the club's third signing of the summer window. 'I'm extremely proud and excited to be an Everton player,' he said today, with the Toffees beginning the new Premier League season away to Leeds United on August 18. 'Coming in, you can feel how big this club is and the history that comes with it. You really feel that with the fanbase, the new stadium now as well and the direction the club is going in. It's a fresh start for me to come up here and try a new chapter in my career. "It's a really exciting time to be part of this massive football club and I just can't wait to get going." With Travers set to serve as back-up to England's Jordan Pickford, Travers added: "Jordan is an outstanding goalkeeper for club and country. I'm looking forward to competing with everyone here and being a Premier League player. "Being in this environment is huge. We're going to push each other every day in training and whatever happens on the weekend, we're going to be there for each other and make the most of every opportunity that comes.' Travers earned his Ireland debut in September 2019 under Mick McCarthy but has struggled for caps since then with Caoimhín Kelleher and Gavin Bazunu ahead of him in the pecking order. His last cap came in a November 2023 friendly against New Zealand. Meanwhile, Ireland U-21 midfielder Jamie Mullins has left Brighton to sign a permanent deal at League One Wycombe Wanderers. The 20-year-old joined the Seagulls from Brighton in January 2023 and established himself as a mainstay in the club's U-21 side but has now opted for a fresh start with the Chairboys, who finished fifth in League One last term before being beaten by Charlton in the play-off semi-finals last May. Mullins, who in 2021 became Bohs' youngest goalscorer in League of Ireland history at age 16, has been capped six times for the Ireland U-21s since his debut last year and becomes Wycombe's ninth signing of the summer as they target promotion to the Championship this term. 'Jamie's got a really bright future ahead of him in the game and we're excited to bring him to Wycombe to develop his career and add another option for us in midfield,' said boss Mike Dodds, with Mullins playing his final game for Brighton in a friendly against Wycombe last weekend. 'He was playing senior football as a teenager over in Ireland and has kicked on again in Brighton's academy, so he's well placed to come here and challenge for first-team football.'

Liverpool willing to pay £120m – £30m below the asking price – for Alexander Isak as they make approach to Newcastle
The prolific Sweden international was known to be a key target for Arne Slot's reigning Premier League champions as they seek the addition of a new top-level centre-forward before the window closes on September 1, having already spent £116million on Florian Wirtz and also signed the likes of Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili. Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Anfield amid ongoing links to clubs in Italy and Saudi Arabia, while Luis Diaz is said to have informed Liverpool of his desire to move on after a £58.5m bid for his services from Bayern Munich was rejected. Isak was said to have been on a three-man striker shortlist on Merseyside also featuring Eintracht Frankfurt's in-demand frontman Hugo Ekitike and Napoli's Victor Osimhen, whom Galatasaray after trying to sign on a permanent basis after his successful loan spell last season. However, Newcastle have always been said to have no interest in selling their top asset, having last week spent £55m to sign his Sweden team-mate Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest. According to multiple outlets on Tuesday afternoon including The Athletic, Liverpool have now made an official approach to Newcastle about signing Isak in a deal worth around £120m – which would represent another new British transfer record. It is thought that if Liverpool cannot land Isak then they will instead swoop for Ekitike, a player Newcastle are also actively trying to sign and for whom they have now reportedly seen a club-record bid of £70m rejected by Frankfurt, who want approximately £85m. The Telegraph report that Newcastle, who are returning to the Champions League next season after sealing fifth place in the Premier League on a dramatic final day last term, remain adamant that Isak is not for sale after Liverpool's enquiry, while Fabrizio Romano claims that the Magpies want to offer him a bumper new deal. Isak currently remains under contract at St James' Park until the summer of 2028 and has become one of the world's best strikers since moving to Tyneside from Real Sociedad for a club-record £62m fee in 2022, scoring 62 goals in 109 total appearances across all competitions so far including 27 in 42 last season. Only Golden Boot winner Mohamed Salah (29) of Liverpool scored more than his 23 in the Premier League. Two of Isak's goals came against Liverpool, including what proved to be the winner in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley in March. Isak was also a long-term transfer target for Liverpool's main title rivals Arsenal, who are instead now close to completing the signing of his Sweden teammate Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting. Ekitike, meanwhile, netted 22 times last season for Frankfurt, where he has quickly kick-started his career after a quiet stint at Paris Saint-Germain that followed his time at Reims. As things stand, Isak has not indicated he wants to leave, but Newcastle are well aware of the fact the leaking of Liverpool's interest into the public domain is designed to unsettle the player. The fact Liverpool's enquiry mentioned a fee well below Newcastle's valuation of the 25-year-old, which is in excess of £150m, suggests this is just the first play in what could become a protracted transfer saga.
