Samsung unveils new security features built into One UI 8

GSM Arena15 hours ago
Samsung today announced a new suite of security and privacy updates that will be available in One UI 8 based on Android 16. The company also very strongly hinted at the fact that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7 will be the first handsets to launch running Android 16 with One UI 8 on top.
With One UI 8, Samsung is introducing Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), which creates "encrypted, app-specific storage environments within the device's secure storage area, ensuring that each app can access only its own sensitive information and nothing more".
KEEP helps secure your "deeply personal insights", such as routines and preferences, that enable features like Now Brief and Smart Gallery search, while supporting Samsung's Personal Data Engine (PDE). Those personal "insights" stay entirely on device, protected by KEEP and further secured by Knox Vault, Samsung's "tamper-resistant hardware security environment".
KEEP protects Now Brief, Smart Suggestions, Samsung Moments, and "other on-device features that rely on user-specific inputs", thus enabling "more advanced AI experiences" without compromising privacy.
In One UI 8, when a device is flagged for "serious risk", such as system manipulation or identity forgery, it will automatically be signed out of the Samsung account, cutting off access to cloud-connected services to prevent threats from spreading. When this happens, you'll be notified across your connected Galaxy devices.
Samsung is also bringing post-quantum cryptography to Secure Wi-Fi, in order to strengthen network protection against emerging threats. This secures the key exchange process at the core of encrypted connections, ensuring "robust privacy" even over public networks, somehow. Secure Wi-Fi is built to withstand future attacks that capture encrypted data with the intent to break it once quantum technology matures.

Samsung's first-class Galaxy Buds 3 Pro are on sale at a new record low price with 2-year warranty

There are a couple of different reasons why you should buy the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro from Amazon rather than Samsung's official US e-store right now, starting with a two-year warranty that's exclusive to the e-commerce giant. The other big reason is pretty easy to guess if you've been keeping an eye on our website today and noticing some unusual activity on the Samsung product deal front. Much like the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, S25 Ultra, S25 Plus, and Galaxy Watch 7, the company's best wireless earbuds are massively discounted for a limited time for Amazon Prime members. True Wireless Earbuds with Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation, Galaxy AI, Sound Optimization, Adaptive Equalizer, Real-Time Interpreter, Intuitive Touch Control, 360 Audio, Bluetooth 5.4 Connectivity, IP57 Water and Dust Resistance, Up to 6 Hours of Uninterrupted Listening Time, 26 Hours of Battery Life with Case, Two Color Options, US Version, Two-Year Warranty Included, Amazon Prime Membership Required Buy at Amazon This particular Prime Day 2025 offer seems especially compelling, as we don't expect the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro to come out anytime soon. That means the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro are likely to remain Samsung's top AirPods Pro 2 alternative (and maybe even the brand's greatest AirPods Pro 3 rival) for a while longer, which makes Amazon's latest $75 discount pretty much impossible to resist. That takes a new record high 30 percent off a regular price of $249.99, and if you hurry, you can choose between silver and white colorways at the exact same towering discount with no special requirements... apart from an obligatory Prime membership. As evidenced in our in-depth Galaxy Buds 3 Pro review from last year, you're looking at an outstanding overall audio performer here with state-of-the-art active noise cancellation and a hugely improved design over the already pretty great Galaxy Buds 2 Pro from 2022. These key selling points wouldn't have been impacted much even if a sequel was planned for an Unpacked announcement this week, which is almost certainly not the case. At an unprecedented $75 under their $249.99 list price, the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro are still not as affordable as the "regular" Galaxy Buds 3 or Apple's AirPods 4, and at the time of this writing, they're also costlier than the AirPods Pro 2. But for their strong points, these bad boys are definitely not overly expensive today, especially with an Amazon-exclusive two-year warranty included. Secure your connection now at a bargain price! Big profit drop awaits Samsung: could be 56% down, much worse than predicted

Will this force Samsung to raise Galaxy prices? Yes, they'll do it. They'll be tempted to do it, but I hope not. No, prices will stay the same. Why? Well, this could be because of weak sales of its high-performance memory chips used in artificial intelligence (AI) devices and is the world's largest maker of memory chips – the tiny silicon components that store information in everything from our beloved smartphones to computers to AI servers. The company said that tighter US rules limiting the sale of advanced AI chips to China may hurt its business. But industry experts say Samsung also lost ground because it has been slow in delivering its latest memory chips, called HBM (high-bandwidth memory), to one of its most important customers, Nvidia – a leader in AI in March, Samsung said it was making good progress on its new HBM3E 12-layer chips and hoped to start shipping them by June. However, the company now says those chips are still being tested by customers and there's no update yet on when Nvidia might use Samsung's competitors, like SK Hynix and Micron, are already cashing in on the AI boom in the US, while Samsung depends more on China – a market where American restrictions and local competition are slowing analyst, cited by Reuters , said that for Samsung, everything right now depends on catching up in the AI chip race. Without that, it risks falling make things harder, there is also talk of possible new US tariffs on smartphones and other electronics, which could hurt Samsung's phone business too. Plus, because the competition is so intense, Samsung won't be able to easily raise its prices to boost the April-June period, Samsung expects to make around 4.6 trillion Korean won (about $3.36 billion when directly converted) in profit. That's down from 10.4 trillion won a year ago, marking its worst earnings in a year and a half. Total sales are expected to stay almost flat at 74 trillion won (around $54 billion).Looking ahead, Samsung hopes things will improve later this year. New smartphone launches, including foldables – that's set for July 9 – could help, along with gradually rising demand for its AI chips from customers beyond chip manufacturing business (its foundry) is also facing challenges because of the US restrictions on sales to China and lower production levels. But the company expects this business to lose less money in the second half of the year as demand slowly picks up.
