Steam is testing out a redesigned storefront that makes it easier to find games you'll like
In its blog post, Steam said that the redesign is supposed to "provide easier access to the places Steam users most frequently visit." At the top, the new browse feature lets you get right into digging through games, based on options like top sellers, new releases or discounts. Next to browse, the recommendations button lets you explore what Steam thinks you'll like, based on other games in your library, your games' playtimes or even community recommendations. To get a more tailored feel, the categories menu button will give you a look at your top genres and offer some suggested tags to find similar games.
Steam also revamped the store's search function to show the most popular searches, your recently viewed games, and top genres. There's even a button for advanced search for users who want to sort through games with specific filters and tags. None of these features are new, but Steam's new look makes it easier to get to the most useful parts of the store page.
"With these changes, we're aiming to make your experience smoother and more tailored to your needs," Steam wrote in its blog post. "We've been hearing from players, and experiencing ourselves, that some of the most commonly visited areas of Steam were hard to get to."
We may be getting improved search functionality with Steam's storefront, but it comes amid frustrations over Steam's recent policy change. Earlier this month, Steam delisted tons of titles with adult or NSFW content to appease its popular payment processors, like Visa and Mastercard, leading to criticism of setting a worrying precedent of censorship. For now, the store page redesign is still part of the Steam Client Beta, where you can submit feedback to help shape the final look.

Billionaire gaming CEO buys superyacht company that built his and Jeff Bezos' boats
Some gamers spend weekends on the couch. Others spend them luxuriating in the most expensive assets money can buy. Gabe Newell, the cofounder of video game developer Valve Corporation, has purchased Oceanco, the Dutch builder behind some of the world's most prominent superyachts. The amount that Newell, who Forbes reports is worth $9.5 billion, paid for the shipbuilder has not been disclosed. The previous owner, Mohammed Al Barwani, purchased Oceanco in 2010. Neither Newell nor Oceanco responded to requests for comment from Business Insider. Newell's Valve is behind some of the most beloved video games, including the "Half-Life" and "Portal" series. It also created Steam, the biggest PC gaming platform, and the handheld PC gaming device Steam Deck. With Oceanco, he's moving into sun decks and main decks. The shipyard has built some of the most renowned superyachts and only delivers a couple of fully customized vessels, which cost well into the nine figures, each year. Its largest build to date is Koru, Jeff Bezos's 127-meter-long sailing yacht, which was delivered in 2023 to much fanfare and has been praised for its aesthetics. The Koru build had its controversial moments. Oceanco initially requested that a historic bridge be dismantled to deliver the yacht, but then rescinded the request. Separately, the company was fined for failing to properly trace the teak used to craft some of Koru's furniture and interiors. Oceanco is also behind Alfa Nero, the 82-meter yacht seized from a Russian oligarch in 2023, and Bravo Eugenia, the 109-meter yacht owned by billionaire Jerry Jones. Newell owns at least one Oceanco design: Draak, a 91.5-meter-long yacht with a helipad, spa, gym, and swimming pool. He is also rumored to be the future owner of Oceanco Y722, a 111-meter project expected to be delivered later this year. While the prices of Oceanco's new deliveries are largely kept under wraps, the six yachts for sale from the builder range in price from $5.8 million for a 49-meter vessel built in 1995 to $341 million for a 105-meter superyacht built in 2000. Newell will take a hands-off approach and plans to "leave the team alone," according to a press release from August 1 announcing the acquisition. There is hope, however, that his tech background will influence production. "What happens when you let yachtbuilders talk to worldbuilders? When craftsmen get access to tech usually reserved for game devs and mad scientists?" the press release says. "You get innovation that doesn't just look good. It feels good."

Mastercard backs open banking
This story was originally published on Payments Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Payments Dive newsletter. Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach expects the open banking trend to keep gaining ground, and seems to prefer that over banks charging for consumer data. The card network chief gave his view on the recent controversial practice of banks charging for consumer data Thursday after an analyst asked about it during the company's second-quarter earnings call. It has emerged as an issue after JPMorgan Chase said last month it would begin charging fintechs that seek to aggregate and use consumer data that JPMorgan Chase has collected. Other banks could follow suit as fintechs seek to amass data from many financial institutions. The decision by JPMorgan, the largest U.S. bank, followed a pullback by the Trump administration on open banking, also known as open finance, which allows consumers to more easily shift their data between companies. The administration reversed course by saying in May that it would scrap the open banking rule issued by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau during the Biden administration. The rule was aimed at giving consumers more control over their data and a smoother path for switching from one financial services provider to another. Last week, the administration softened its position on open banking rule, telling a federal judge overseeing litigation related to the opening banking rule that the agency would seek to revise the regulation. In touching on the U.S. developments, Miebach noted open banking has taken hold in Europe and Australia, calling it an 'important topic.' 'Our fundamental belief [is that] consumer consented data and their ability to share that is very important, and that will be a winning proposition over time,' he said He also showed that he believes open banking is generally a positive phenomenon. 'This whole idea that a consumer can use their data footprint to avail [themselves] of better services in the finance space…I think it's a good notion and it generally resonates and will not go away,' Miebach said. In 2020, Mastercard acquired data-sharing startup Finicity for $825 million to advance its ability to provide services related to the use of consumer data by fintechs, banks and other lenders. That's particularly an advantage in an open banking environment that has given rise to fintechs competing to offer services, often via new customer apps. Banks have been keen to fend off competition from those nascent firms. Mastercard, which ostensibly could be subject to paying banks for data, hasn't engaged in conversations about such fees, Miebach suggested, noting the company will monitor the situation. He also emphasized that banks, which issue cards, are critical partners for the company. 'We don't really have full visibility here on what is being specifically considered by a number of banks,' Miebach said during the call, referring to banks as 'fantastic partners of ours.' 'Various economic considerations are out there that are being discussed in the [news] coverage that will have to be figured out, but it's not something that we have been engaged in at this point.' On a related front, Miebach pointed to the rising importance of safeguarding such data with cybersecurity tools, including artificial intelligence defenses, as fraud threats mount. 'We've also been incredibly focused on leveraging our data to drive better engagement solutions for our customers,' Miebach said. 'So, if you think in a more digital world your cyber risks will go up, that's why cybersecurity is at the focus of what we're doing.' Last year, Mastercard also made a big acquisition on the cybersecurity front, buying Recorded Future for $2.65 billion. 'On the cybersecurity side, the stakes are getting higher and higher – the fraudsters are using the latest technology, using artificial intelligence – generative AI – to power their solutions,' Miebach explained. 'On the cybersecurity side, we're doing exactly the same.' Also during the call, Mastercard executives fielded questions about the impact on the company of bank card issuer Capital One shifting some debit card business from Mastercard to Discover Financial. Following Cap One's completion of its acquisition of Discover in May, that conversion for card holders is happening now, but it will be a gradual process, said Mastercard Chief Financial Officer Sachin Mehra. 'We expect this year the net revenue impact to be minimal to our overall company's net revenues,' Mehra said. 'The vast majority of the impact we expect to feel will be next year.' Miebach noted that the company still expects to continue its credit card ties to Capital One. With respect to its second-quarter results, Mastercard reported net income rose 14% to $3.7 billion for the quarter, over the year-earlier period, as revenue climbed 17% to $8.1 billion, according to a company presentation. The Zacks Analyst Blog Highlights Interactive Brokers, Visa, Robinhood Markets and PayPal Holdings
For Immediate Release Chicago, IL – August 4, 2025 – announces the list of stocks featured in the Analyst Blog. Every day the Zacks Equity Research analysts discuss the latest news and events impacting stocks and the financial markets. Stocks recently featured in the blog include: Interactive Brokers Group IBKR, Visa Inc. V, Robinhood Markets, Inc. HOOD and PayPal Holdings PYPL. Here are highlights from Friday's Analyst Blog: 4 Crypto-Centric Stocks to Buy Before Bitcoin Resumes Its Rally The cryptocurrency rally has slowed over the past couple of days, with Bitcoin (BTC) retreating from its all-time high. Several factors have been weighing on the crypto market, but the decline is temporary as the rally is expected to resume once these tensions ease. President Donald Trump's tariffs, a delay in the interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve and multiple other factors are hurting Bitcoin. However, the cryptocurrency has still held its ground and is trying to make a rebound. The temporary dip might be an ideal opportunity to invest in crypto-focused stocks. We have selected four stocks, namely Interactive Brokers Group, Visa Inc., Robinhood Markets, Inc. and PayPal Holdings. Each of these stocks has strong growth potential for 2025 and has seen positive earnings estimate revisions in the last 90 days. Bitcoin Retreats From All-Time High Bitcoin hit an all-time high of $123,153.22 earlier last month before paring some of its gains. The cryptocurrency remained rangebound, hovering around $119,000 for most of July. However, the final days of July saw Bitcoin falling below $116,000 to enter a short-term bearish zone. On Thursday, Bitcoin was hovering around $115,100. The decline came after the Federal Reserve left interest rates steady in its current range of 4.25-4.5%. The decision was anticipated, but there was a bleak hope among investors that the Fed could go for a 25-basis-point rate cut. Higher interest rates negatively impact growth-oriented sectors, which include technology, consumer discretionary industries and cryptocurrencies. Also, uncertainty over the impact of Trump's tariffs on inflation has made investors jittery. Although the White House said that it has reached trade deals with several nations after negotiations, there is a lack of clarity over the new tariff structure. In recent months, the effects of higher tariffs have become evident, as prices of goods have increased. Inflation saw an uptick in June, which analysts largely attribute to the elevated tariffs. The Federal Reserve is postponing any interest rate cuts as it monitors how these developments influence inflation and broader economic trends. However, Bitcoin is likely to resume its rally once investors get more clarity on these issues. Markets are still pricing in two 25-basis-point rate cuts by the end of this year, which are expected to boost Bitcoin. 4 Crypto-Centric Stocks with Upside Interactive Brokers Group, Inc.
