Weezer bassist Scott Shriner's wife Jillian Lauren released on $1 million bond after being shot by police
The 51-year-old was shot and injured by police before being booked on attempted murder charges in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
According to Los Angeles jail records, she was released from police custody the same day, and her next hearing is scheduled for April 30.
The incident occurred when LAPD officers were in pursuit of three misdemeanor hit-and-run suspects who had left a freeway crash scene and fled on foot into a residential neighborhood of Eagle Rock in east Los Angeles. Lauren was not involved in the original car chase.
Authorities claim Lauren came out of a neighboring house armed with a handgun and failed to drop the weapon even after being repeatedly told to do so by officers.
Officers say that Lauren opened fire after seeing one of the car chase suspects on her property, reports CBS News.
They say she pointed her gun at the officers, at which point they opened fire. TMZ reports that she was struck in the shoulder.
The suspect went inside their home, packed an overnight bag, and then was escorted to a local hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Lauren is facing attempted murder charges, and LAPD confirmed that there is no suggestion she was involved in the earlier hit-and-run incident.
'The officers ordered Shriner to drop the handgun numerous times. However, she refused. Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers, prompting at least one to open fire,' the LAPD said in a statement. Investigators recovered a 9mm handgun inside the home.
One of the suspects in the original car chase was arrested, while two others successfully fled the scene. The suspect who was arrested was wearing just boxer shorts when he was apprehended in a nearby backyard.
KTLA, citing authorities, reports that the man had been attempting to blend into the neighborhood and even jumped into a swimming pool.
The Independent has reached out to Weezer's representatives for comment.
Lauren married her musician husband in 2005 and published her memoir Some Girls: My Life in a Harem in 2010. The book recounted her experiences with Prince Jefri Bolkiah, brother of the Sultan of Brunei, between 1992 and 1995.
Shriner has been a member of Weezer since 2001 and is the band's longest-serving bass player. Shriner and Lauren have two adopted children. The couple also have two dogs, Peanut and Calvin, who have appeared in PETA promotions to encourage people to adopt pets from shelters.
Lauren's first memoir, Some Girls, was a bestseller that has been translated into 18 languages. The book recounted the years she spent as one of Prince Jefri's paid young female 'guests,' explaining that they were signed to contracts worth as much as $20,000 per week.
In 2011, she published a novel, Pretty, and in 2015, a second memoir, Everything You Ever Wanted, about her and Shriner's experiences adopting an Ethiopian child with special needs.
In 2023, she published the bestselling true-crime book Behold the Monster: Facing America's Most Prolific Serial Killer. The book is based on her extensive interviews with serial killer Samuel Little, which also formed the basis of the 2021 documentary series Confronting a Serial Killer.

Something of a tradition, the two-hour crime drama on a Sunday night. It stretches from Vera and Grace, all the way back to Inspector Morse in the 1980s. But it's a dangerous format. If the characters are weak, if the story sags, if the dialogue drags, viewers will really start to feel it around the 60-minute mark. Then an ad break will come around, they'll wander off to put the kettle on... and not bother coming back. The cosy detective show McDonald And Dodds, starring Jason Watkins and Tala Gouveia, ought to have thrived as a series of well-paced one-hour episodes, for instance. But it simply didn't have the complexity or the characters to last double the length. Viewing figures slumped, and earlier this year it was quietly cancelled. Karen Pirie is different. Based on the superb books by Val McDermid, this returning drama has plots as deep and dark as a coal mine shaft. The characters aren't merely well drawn — they're alive, constantly seeking to understand and learn more about each other. This three-part adaptation of the novel A Darker Domain opened in a Fife fish shop during the miners' strike in 1984. A young mother was sharing a chip supper with her best mate and cooing over her one-year-old. A thread of tension ran through the scene, vibrating with a hidden threat. But nothing hinted at the explosive violence to come, as a masked gunman seized the mum, taking her and the baby hostage. DI Pirie (Lauren Lyle) wasn't even born when the kidnap happened. But the young woman was the daughter of Scotland's wealthiest oil baron, Sir Brodie Grant, and it was all too plausible that the unsolved case was one every copper would know. This three-part adaptation of the novel A Darker Domain opened in a Fife fish shop during the miners' strike in 1984 Its parallels with the John Paul Getty kidnap are hard to miss, and acknowledged in a brief aside by Pirie to her slightly dim sidekick, DC Jason 'Mint' Murray (Chris Jenks). He's none the wiser: 'John Paul?' he asks. 'As in the pope?' Mint gets all the best jokes. When Pirie asks if he's 'media trained', he replies, 'No, but I've watched a lot of Arnold Schwarzenegger speeches on YouTube.' The two timeframes are expertly intercut, with some flashbacks lasting just a few seconds, helping us to grasp what people are talking or thinking about. This technique removes the need for long passages of explanation. Grant in 1984 is played by Jamie Michie, as a bullying, demanding tycoon who expects the police to work as his own private army. James Cosmo is the same man 40 years later, emotionally broken but as controlling as ever, employing an investigator to look into Pirie's past. The private eye will surely have discovered that she's in a relationship with another colleague, DS Phil Parhatka (Zach Wyatt) — one she hasn't disclosed to her bosses. That deep, dark mine shaft is going to take more twists.

Vehicle driven into Los Angeles crowd injures 30 people
A man drove a car into a busy crowd of people waiting to get into a nightclub in Los Angeles early on Saturday, injuring 30 people, with at least five in critical condition. The driver, who is now in custody, has been identified as Fernando Ramirez, 29, and faces potential charges including attempted murder, police said. The incident took place outside The Vermont Hollywood on Santa Monica Boulevard, the city's fire department said. A line of people, mostly women, were waiting to get into the nightclub when the car – a Nissan Versa – struck them, also hitting a taco truck and a nearby valet stand. According to Cpt Adam VanGerpen, the public information officer for the LA fire department, people were quickly transported to local hospitals and trauma centers. Parademics also determined that one of the patients had a gunshot wound, VanGerpen said. Witnesses said Ramirez was immediately grabbed and pulled him out of the car. He was also shot during the struggle, the LA police department said. He then fled the scene on foot. Images from the scene from photographers and social media show debris, including shoes, strewn across the road, as surrounding areas were sealed off and emergency response teams arrived. 'This is under police investigation,' VanGerpen added. 'This will be a large investigation with the LAPD.' Partygoers in the club came out immediately to help the victims before the emergency crews arrived, he said. 'They were all standing in line going into a nightclub. There was a taco cart out there, so they were … getting some food, waiting to go in. And there's also a valet line there,' VanGerpen said. 'The valet podium was taken out, the taco truck was taken out, and then a large number of people were impacted by the vehicle.' The LAPD confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. LA nightclub crowd crash which left 30 injured may have been intentional, police say
A crash outside a Los Angeles nightclub which left 30 people injured may have been intentional, according to police. Seven people are said to be in a critical condition, while at least 23 others were injured, after a car drove into a crowd outside the nightclub. The fire department's Adam Van Gerpen told Sky's US partner NBC News that the car struck a taco cart before hitting people outside a nightclub at around 2am on Saturday. Pictures from Santa Monica Boulevard, in East Hollywood, show a damaged grey Nissan Versa that had mounted the pavement. According to NBC News, cameras in the area are still being canvassed, but the incident appears to have been intentional, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). The force later named the driver as 29-year-old Fernando Ramirez. He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Officers "found the driver being assaulted by bystanders and determined he had sustained a gunshot wound", police said, adding that the wound was sustained after the collision. The LAPD say the person suspected of inflicting the gunshot wound - a man described by police as a 5ft 9in, bald, Hispanic, and possibly carrying a silver revolver - fled on foot. Sergeant Travis Ward said Ramirez had been taken to hospital for surgery, and it was currently unclear if he was intoxicated. He remains hospitalised and has not been booked into jail, the LAPD said. A man who was inside the nightclub told NBC he heard a "loud bang" and a number of people ducked after hearing what they believed to be gunshots. "We look out the club, and it's a car into the hole right there," he said. "And then it's crazy, because people everywhere, laying down, unconscious, people, bleeding out and stuff." The 14.3 mile (23km) boulevard spans nearly the entire city of Los Angeles, from West Hollywood to the Santa Monica Pier.
