Dakota Johnson won't spend time on 'toxic' sets
The Fifty Shades of Grey actress is relishing her behind-the-scenes role as a producer because it helps her to put together a working environment that is "fun" and "fulfilling".
She told Variety: 'If there's not a healthy collaboration, if it's not a good match, then it's not a good match. We really don't move forward if it's not a good match.
'I can't waste time on toxic sets anymore, or in situations that are not fun or fulfilling or healthy. That's one of the perks of [producing], because I get to put amazing people together and make something."
Dakota didn't share any details of any past "toxic" experiences but stressed she has no desire to work with 'anybody who's mean or condescending or unkind.'
She added: 'I don't want to face people who are not willing to collaborate, and then there are obvious things.
'We all know what a toxic set is by now. We're artists, so there's room for expansive personalities, and we're working with emotions.'
But the Materialists star admitted that doesn't mean there isn't scope for healthy disageements.
She added: 'I love a healthy argument on a set, and I also believe that the most excellent idea wins. It's not a fight. It's not a race. It's a collaboration.'
Dakota confessed she can be "pretty vocal" when it comes to advocating for herself at work.
She said: 'I think now, just being in the position of being a producer and developing my own films, I can choose all the people who are in it, and that makes a huge difference."
Dakota is preparing to make her directorial debut, with the "amazing" Vanessa Burghardt in the lead role in the untitled movie, and although she doesn't feel confident in her filmmaking abilities, she's thrilled to be working with her pal.
She said: 'I've always felt that I'm not ready to direct a feature.
"I don't have the confidence, but, with her, I feel very protective and I know her very well. I can see this world, so I just won't let anybody else do it. That's the real answer.'

Social Media Drags Cierra Ortega After She Chooses Taylor Over Andreina in Love Island USA's Most Savage Episode Yet
After one of the most explosive eliminations in Love Island USA history, the Season 7 girls' girl rep, Cierra Ortega, has found herself at the center of a very public backlash. In a twist that dumped five islanders in one night, Cierra shocked both fans and fellow islanders when she chose to save Taylor Williams over Andreina Santos, igniting a full-blown Twitter inferno and calling her 'girl code' credentials into serious question. And let's just say… the internet is not holding back. When host Ariana Madix revealed the twist that only one of the bottom six islanders, three guys and three girls, could be saved, fans expected tension. But what they didn't expect was a move so polarizing that it sparked one of the most brutal draggings of the season. Despite Andreina having the support of several of the girls in the villa, including Chelley, Amaya, and Huda, Cierra went rogue, standing behind Taylor. And the public immediately clocked it. 'So girl code, girl code, girl code, but Cierra saves Taylor over Andreina? K.' one viewer tweeted, their sarcasm sharper than any recoupling speech. 'Cierra is weird asf get that girl off my screen. She rather save Taylor ass but not Andreina. She insecure asf,' another posted. 'Cierra didn't stand behind Andreina because Nick was drooling over her the first two days she was in the villa,' someone else speculated, hinting that this was personal. Season 7, Episode 27, aired Thursday night on Peacock, and it instantly reshaped the entire game. Andreina, Gracyn, Jaden, TJ, Austin, and Taylor were all ranked the lowest in public votes. The remaining cast was told to stand behind only one of them. The results? Taylor received support from Clarke, Pepe, Nic, Ace, and most controversially, Cierra. Andreina, by contrast, had Chelley, Amaya, and Huda backing her. TJ was supported by Zac and Iris, Austin by Olandria, Gracyn by Elan, and Jaden by Chris and Bryan. When the votes were counted, Taylor was saved. Everyone else, Andreina, Gracyn, Jaden, TJ, and Austin, was sent packing. And fans felt that one. 'Cierra you sealed Andreina's fate,' one person posted bluntly. 'Saving Taylor over Andreina… Cierra ur weird.' 'Cierra standing behind Taylor is very weird?? All your best friends were behind Andreina. Girl what??' The internet didn't stop at dragging, they started decoding. Fans have begun crafting their own theories about why Cierra chose Taylor over Andreina, and many of them revolve around Nic and Olandria. 'What if I said Cierra voting for Taylor over Andreina was intentional but not genuine?' one user wrote. 'Because she feels a type of way about Nic and Olandria exploring their connection. So since she feels betrayed, she's gonna keep the person there that she knows Olandria hates as a F you.' 'Cierra not only stood to save the man who played in her best friend's face, but she didn't vote to save her other friend's man, or even Andreina… she's such a BIRD I hate ittttttt.' Others took aim at her motives, implying the decision was driven by jealousy or insecurity. 'You could've chose TJ (your friend's man) or Andreina (your friend) but chose the man that did your best friend dirty on national TV. Giving male-centered and wanted to go with whoever Nic went with.' Despite her elimination, Andreina's fanbase is already manifesting her comeback. 'Cierra weird but honestly Andreina finna have 30 athletes in her DMs,' one user tweeted confidently. 'Her man was never in that villa.' And they might be right. Andreina has been a standout all season, classy, confident, and unproblematic. Her exit may have broken some hearts, but viewers are already predicting a major post-show glow-up. The mass dumping was nothing short of nuclear. The usual 'two by two' eliminations were tossed aside in favor of a gladiator-style reckoning. Host Ariana Madix warned of high stakes, but no one expected five islanders to be axed in a single night. Taylor Williams, backed by five islanders, survived. The rest were eliminated on the spot. With the finale approaching, this twist has not only altered the villa's power structure, it's obliterated it. Formerly strong alliances are now shaky. Friendships are being questioned. Every decision moving forward is about survival. The question now is whether Cierra herself will survive this backlash. Her image as a loyal girls' girl has taken a major hit, and the viewers aren't forgetting anytime soon. The villa just got smaller. The drama just got bigger. And Cierra? She may have just become the Season 7 villain by accident or by design. We'll find out soon enough. Catch all the fallout from this season's most cutthroat elimination on Love Island USA, streaming exclusively on Peacock. Episode 28 promises more romance, more revenge, and maybe, just maybe, a redemption arc. Or a bigger blow-up. Either way, we'll be watching. 'Flashback' (1990) Blu-Ray Review - Unlikely Buddy Comedy Is Harmless Fun
Dennis Hopper and Kiefer Sutherland make a screen team that spans generations in Flashback. Infamous '60s radical Huey Walker (Hopper) has been caught by the Feds and is headed for prison under the watchful eye of an uptight FBI agent (Sutherland). Easy enough, right? But when Huey turns the tables on his escort, the two are in for a ride that's anything but easy. Carol Kane, Paul Dooley, and Cliff De Young also star in this laugh-packed road trip (emphasis on trip)! For thoughts on Flashback, please check out my thoughts on No Streaming Required: Video Quality Flashback debuted on Blu-Ray in 2023 with an inconsistent digital AVC encoded 1080p transfer derived from an older master that could use a refresh with its various drawbacks. The transfer retains a respectable amount of natural film grain, although there appears to be some amount of processing applied. Subtle signs of print damage show up sporadically, but it is an overall clear viewing experience. This is a pretty soft image for most of the runtime, but some fine detail can be observed in the clothing and backgrounds. Colors are somewhat muted yet stand out in certain moments in terms of saturation. Black levels are irregular with crush and compression artifacts occasionally visible in this presentation. Skin tones are natural and consistent across the ensemble. This feature could get a nice uptick with a fresh master, but it does what you need it to if you don't mind a careless HD presentation. Audio Quality This Blu-Ray presents the film with a DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track and a DTS-HD 2.0 Master Audio stereo track that are quite a bit better than the video side of things. The witty dialogue comes through clearly in tandem with all competing sounds. The environmental effects, such as rushing river water and train noises, are defined without turning into an auditory mess. The soundtrack presents an immersive experience for audiences. Nearly every tune emerges with a forthright fidelity, but you do hear the slightest bit of strain in some notes. Shout! Studios has done good work overall. Optional English SDH subtitles are provided. Special Features There are no special features provided on this disc. Final Thoughts Flashback is a pretty standard unlikely buddy comedy that plays well enough within the conventions. Kiefer Sutherland seems a bit too stiff for this role, but Dennis Hopper seems to be completely in his element. Carol Kane is a scene-stealer who allows that back half of the film to feel a bit more lively. This is a good candidate for a mindless weekend watch. Shout! Studios has provided a Blu-Ray featuring a dated A/V presentation and zero special features. Fans of the talent involved will want to seek it out, but casual audiences may want to sample before they buy. Flashback is currently available to purchase on Blu-Ray. Note: Images presented in this review are not reflective of the image quality of the Blu-Ray. Disclaimer: Shout! Studios has supplied a copy of this set free of charge for review purposes. All opinions in this review are the honest reactions of the author.
