Gogglebox fans call for pair to be axed complaining they are 'not suitable for TV'

Yahoo15-02-2025
Gogglebox fans have issued new calls for Giles Wood and Mary Killen to be axed from the Channel 4 show.
A new series of Gogglebox began on Channel 4 on Friday (February 14) night, now into it's 25th season.
Fans took to social media on Friday night to share how excited they were to see the popular Channel 4 series back on TV.
One viewer, posting on X (formerly Twitter), said: "All hail the utterly terrific @C4Gogglebox. How is it so darn therapeutic watching people just watch TV?
"Always the much needed delight relief a sh***y day requires. Bravo to all involved..... #Gogglebox."
While another fan added: "I'm so glad #Gogglebox is back @Channel4."
Despite the new series having only just begun, Gogglebox fans are already calling for Channel 4 to scrap Giles and Mary from the show.
The pair have appeared on Gogglebox since back in 2015 and often receive mixed reviews with some loving their dry sense of humour and wit, while others say they ruin the show.
One viewer posted on X saying: "Why are Giles & Mary still on here? She's such a prude, makes my teeth itch.

Another person commented: "Hard not to hate Giles & Mary. At first they were just kooky & a bit weird, but now its beyond utterly unbearable whenever they appear on screen.
"Every new season I pray they won't return, but then up they f***ing pop."
While a third person said: "Its obvious Giles has his issues which Mary can no longer tolerate. She also has issues, and their squabbles are embarrassing to watch.
"Not something suitable for TV viewing. Surprised they are still part of #gogglebox."
But others were happy to see Giles and Mary back on TV on the new series of Gogglebox.
One fan commented: "Giles and Mary lol offbeat but can't imagine the show without them."
While another added: "Giles and Mary always make me laugh Giles really knows how to wind up Mary."

But it's not just Giles and Mary that fans want off Gogglebox.
One person, posting on X, said: "I'd love to know how the #Gogglebox producers decide who to keep each season...there are a few that should've gone a LOOONG time ago."
Other viewers delved into further detail, naming Pete and Sophie, Ellie and Izzi and the Kent family as other Gogglebox stars that should be axed from the Channel 4 series.

This Gogglebox viewer commented: "I love #Gogglebox but a lot of the current people need to be replaced starting with Pete and Sophie & Ellie and Izzy as the most annoying.
"Giles and Mary not far behind. We just need new faces. Pete in particular thinks he's so clever when he really isn't."
Another added: "The Kent family are back......that's unfortunate."

All the Major ‘Squid Game' Season 3 Plot Holes You Might Have Missed

After three gripping seasons, Squid Game came to an end this weekend, as Seong Gi-hun faced off with Hwang In-ho (also known as the Front Man) one last time. New games were played in the form of Hide-and-Seek, and a super intense version of Jump Rope, which saw 222's newborn child taking on her number. While I was at the edge of my seat during all the gruesome challenges, eagle-eyed fans have pointed out some discrepancies from the third and final installment. From 222's baby, to the numbers of surviving players each round, here's all the Squid Game season three plot holes you might have missed... When it comes to Player 222's (Kim Jun-hee) newborn baby, we have so many questions. First of all, Player 222 gave birth in the middle of the Hide-and-Seek game when she was hiding from the blue team. How no one found her in the room as she was screaming from the labour pains and no one heard the baby crying is besides me. Then there's the issue of the baby's feeding and nappy changes. We saw the baby being fed twice on-screen—first by her mother and then again by a guard during the final feast, but never again. The baby was also being wrapped in player 456's uniform throughout most of the game, which is pretty unrealistic. "Did they give the baby diapers in Squid Game or did it just s*** and poop all over itself for the whole time," one viewer asked on X (formerly Twitter). I know this is Squid Game and the players do remain in their uniforms even after almost being beaten to death in games and are fed morsels of food, but these are adults as opposed to a newborn baby... During the game of Hide-and-Seek, the players with a blue bib had to each kill one player with a red bib in order to progress to the next round. They could also kill more players if they chose to. At the end it was revealed that 35 out of 60 players had lost the game, which one viewer said "doesn't check out". As we saw in the game, blue players had to successfully kill a red player in order to be successful. If they failed to do this in time, they would be eliminated. Blue players only needed to kill one player each, but they could kill more, which Player 333 (Myung-gi) and Player 124 (Nyam-gyu) did, automatically eliminating other red players who would then couldn't be found by an eligible blue player. This could have explained the number, although the math is a little dodgy. In the final episodes, Player 246 speeds away on a boat as he tries to get away from the island where the games take place. Judging by the speed and intensity at which he moved, one Reddit user pointed out that he would have been much further from the island. However, when the detective arrives and 246 points out where it is, it's so close. "Player 246 speeds away on a boat like he's sailing to freedom," the viewer wrote. "By the intensity and speed, I thought he had gotten FAR from the island... In the heavy mist, the island is right there when 246 points it [out]. And the marine takes so long to find the island. [This] makes no sense." There was no mention or sight of a coast guard during season 3, despite a massive ship setting sail. It's very unlikely such a big ship wouldn't have been noticed, yet the detective was out in the middle of the sea and was never interrupted... One viewer had a big question around the final game, which saw Gi-hun sacrifice his own life so that Player 222's baby could live and win the game. However, one viewer had an issue with this, asking on Reddit: "There's a rule in the games if you can quit at any time and you need a majority to quit so why didn't Seong Gi-hun just end the game? The baby would have abstained. And they both would have lived????" However, this isn't necessarily a plot hole but rather a change that was made in season 2. At one point, players were allowed to vote to end the game whenever they wanted and whatever the majority agreed would be the outcome. This was changed after season 2, so voting could only take place at a certain time and not once a game had started, which is very convenient considering the ending...

Taskmaster Season 20 Cast: 5 Celebrities On The New Line-Up Announced

The five celebrities taking part in the next season of the hit comedy competition series Taskmaster have been unveiled. On Thursday evening, Channel 4 revealed the line-up for the Bafta-winning show's 20th run, which will air later this year. Joining the cast this time around will be The League Of Gentlemen and Inside No. 9 creator Reece Shearsmith and the comedian and actor Sanjeev Bhaskar, best known for his roles in shows like Goodness Gracious Me, The Kumars At No. 42 and Unforgotten. They'll be joined by stand-up comedians Maisie Adam, Ania Magliano, and Phil Ellis. A Channel 4 press release teased: 'The almighty Taskmaster Greg Davies and his faithful admin keeper Alex Horne have gathered some of the most brilliant and eclectic comedy minds and assigned them one mission: to become a Taskmaster Champion.' No release date for the 20th series of Taskmaster has been given, but Channel 4 has insisted that more information will be 'revealed in due course'. The last season of Taskmaster aired over several weeks earlier in the year, featuring appearances from the likes of Rosie Ramsey, Jason Mantzoukas, Fatiha El-Ghorri, Stevie Martin, and Matthew Baynton. It's now been almost 10 years since Taskmaster first aired on Dave in 2015, before making the move to Channel 4 four years later, quickly going on to become one of the broadcaster's most popular shows. Back in 2020, it won a Bafta in the Best Comedy Entertainment Programme, beating competition from The Graham Norton Show, The Last Leg and The Ranganation, and was nominated in the same category once again earlier this year. Taskmaster has also spawned several international remakes in territories like Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Canada, with varying levels of success, while a live experience inspired by the show launched in London last year, before closing in February.
