The Dukes of Hazzard star Rick Hurst, who played Deputy Cletus Hogg on the popular TV show, has died at the age of 79, his ex-wife has confirmed
Veteran actor Richard "Rick" Hurst, famed for his portrayal of Deputy Cletus Hogg on The Dukes of Hazzard, has died at the age of 79.
Rick's former wife, Candace Kaniecki, broke the news to TMZ, revealing that Rick had passed away unexpectedly in Los Angeles on Thursday, June 26. At this moment in time, the cause of Rick's death remains a mystery, according to Candace.
Confirmation of his passing came through Cooter's in Luray, VA's Facebook page on June 26 – a museum and shop dedicated to The Dukes of Hazzard, run by Ben Jones aka Cooter Daveport from the beloved CBS series, and his spouse, Alma Viator.
Cooter paid homage to Rick with an emotional funeral picture tribute showcasing Deputy Hogg. The image featured a sepia-toned Rick encircled by white doves against clouds on a black backdrop, complete with his full name, the respectful 'RIP', and marking his lifetime from Jan. 1, 1946, to June 26, 2025.
A heartfelt quote accompanied the image: "Gone from our sight but never from our hearts. Your love and memories will forever remain.", reports the Mirror US.
Their Facebook post expressed their profound sorrow, adding: "Our hearts are broken! ! You will be missed! ! ! !".
Just last month, Rick was seen celebrating at Ben's retirement party held at Cooter's, and he was scheduled to appear for a Meet and Greet event at the Cooter's location in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, slated for July 3-7.
Rick's co-star from The Dukes of Hazzard, John Schneider, who played one of the iconic "Duke boys," Bo Duke, penned a heartfelt tribute to Rick following the news of his passing.
John shared a funeral tribute poster photo of Rick on Facebook and wrote: "I just this moment heard about the passing of dear Rick Hurst, a.k.a. Cletus Hogg. You were remarkable force for humanity, sanity and comedy my friend. Heaven is a safer and more organised place with you in it. We'll keep the race going and people laughing until we meet again! Love you. John."
Rick was best known for his role as Deputy Cletus Hogg, Boss Hogg's (Sorrell Brooke) cousin, on The Dukes of Hazzards. He portrayed the character from 1980 to 1983 and reprised his role in the films The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion! (1997) and The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard in Hollywood (2000), which followed the show's conclusion in 1985.
Throughout his career, Rick appeared in numerous TV shows and films including The Partridge Family, MASH*, The Guardian, The Karate Kid Part III and Steel Magnolias. His last acting credit was a TV short called Be My Guest in 2016.

The Script star gives emotional tribute to late bandmate at Glastonbury
The Script and their fans were devastated in 2023 when guitarist Mark Sheehan suddenly passed away following a short illness - leaving behind his wife and three kids The Script star Danny O'Donoghue made an emotional tribute to late guitarist Mark Sheehan while performing at Glastonbury on Saturday. The Irish band were formed in 2001 with Danny and Mark joined by fellow original members Glen Power and Benjamin Sargeant - who play drums and bass. The band was left heartbroken in April 2023 when Mark died at the age of 46 following a brief illness. Taking to the stage at Glastonbury, Danny took a moment to pay tribute to his late friend. After performing The Man Who Can't Be Move, the 44-year-old singer took a seat on the edge of the stage and told the audience how much he missed his friend. He shared: "There's one person I really wish was here to see this. "He was on the stage 17 years ago. We lost my best mate and the founding member of The Script Mark Sheehan, we lost him nearly a year and a half ago. "I just want to thank every single person here for keeping us going, for all your thoughts and all your prayers, thank you so much." The touching words provoked a chorus of cheers from the audience, spurring Danny and the band onwards. He added: "I know he's having a whiskey right now looking down on us. With that I'm gonna dedicate this song to him, this song is called If You Could See Me Now." Fans of The Script were shocked by the sudden passing of Mark in 2023 - with the guitarist playing with the group from its creation until his shock passing. His death was announced in a social media post shared via Facebook. The statement said: "Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time." Mark had moved to America where he lived with his wife, Rina, and their three children. He died on 14 April 2023. The Script were just one of the many acts performing for excited music fans at Glastonbury during the 2025 festival. Sir Rod Stewart has previously explained how thrilled he is to be headlining one of the stages on Sunday. He told the BBC: "I just wish they wouldn't call it the tea time slot. That sounds like pipe and slippers, doesn't it?" However, he went on to tease fans what to expect when he takes to the stage. He said: "Usually I do well over two hours so there's still a load of songs we won't be able to do. But we've been working at it. "I'm not gonna make any announcements between songs. I'll do one number, shout 'next', and go straight into the next one. I'm going to get in as many songs I can." The singer explained that he usually plays for over two hours when he is on tour and that Glastonbury organisers initially offered him only 75 minutes for his slot - but he was able to negotiate this up to 90 minutes instead.

Tom Brady and Sydney Sweeney fuel romance buzz after 'dancing til 2am' at Bezos wedding blowout
Rumors are intensifying that Tom Brady and Sydney Sweeney may have struck up a romance at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez ' wedding the night before. An insider told the Daily Mail that Sweeney, 27, was the 'most sought after person' during the festivities. 'Sydney apparently is the most sought-after person to be around at the Bezos wedding,' the insider shared. 'Everyone wants to talk to her and every guy that has been in her presence has talked about how stunning she is in real life.' Brady in particular had his sights on Sweeney, with TMZ reporting that he was 'chatting up' the Euphoria star at the hotel bar over the course of the multi-day lavish wedding extravaganza. Now another insider has alleged that the two of them danced together during the party, which is said to have lasted until 2am. has not received a response to its request for comment from reps for both Brady and Sweeney. A source claimed Brady 'danced with everyone' at the wedding - not just Sweeney but also model Brooks Nader, whom he was briefly linked to last year. The next day, Brady and Sweeney were seen enjoying a walk along the Venetian streets with Orlando Bloom, who attended the wedding solo under a cloud of reports that he and his fiancée Katy Perry have split. But it is rumors of a romance between the duo of A-list celebrities, Sweeney and Brady, that have sent their respective fandoms into a meltdown. The two irresistible forces making a union was too much for those who follow the NFL or the 'Anyone But You' star's career to handle. 'Tom Brady already has everything. If he gets Syd Sweeney he will become too powerful and may be our only chance of beating AI,' one person on social media said. 'This is the type of greed the Bible talked about,' a second fan stated. 'F*** yeah Tom. Giselle (Bundchen) may have won the battle, but Brady's going to win the war,' a third continued. 'Tom Brady after retiring a legend & moving on to signing the No. 1 draft pick just hitting her prime,' a fourth added with the infamous Alonzo Mourning GIF. 'Sydney Sweeney is 27 years old. Tom Brady is 47 years old It seems Brady is following Belichick's steps,' a fifth said, with a poke at Brady's former head coach Bill Belichick and his 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson. 'Brady going for another deflated balls scenario,' a final person concluded. Sydney, who confirmed her split from fiancé Jonathan Davino earlier this year, allegedly wowed guests with her 'down to Earth' and 'fun' personality, in addition to her stunning looks. Tom has been spotted hanging out with newly-single Orlando Bloom, as well as Usher and Leonardo DiCaprio since he arrived in Venice, Italy, for the nuptials. Described as the 'wedding of a century,' the 61-year-old Bezos and the former journalist, 55, have welcomed nearly 200 VIPs to Venice for three days of lavish celebrations. Details surrounding Sydney's friendship with the bride and groom remain unclear and naturally, many perplexed fans were left pondering her inclusion in the celebrations. Not many questioned Brady's involvement at the wedding. Oprah Winfrey, Ivanka Trump, Usher, Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, and Kris Jenner were among the other stars who have traveled to Italian city to watch the couple exchange vows - two years after Bezos asked Sanchez to marry him on his $500 million superyacht.
