Lottery player wins $10K in NC — then wins $10M a week later. ‘Hard to fathom'
He won $10 million.
Christopher Sink of Winston-Salem hit the jackpot on a $50 scratch-off ticket in the $10 Million Spectacular game, the North Carolina Education Lottery announced June 27.
'I was really nervous at first,' he told lottery officials. 'It was kind of a crazy feeling.'
The new multimillionaire recounted he was at a convenience store when he felt compelled to buy a lottery ticket. Then he beat the 1-in-3,255,582 odds to win one of five top prizes in the scratch-off game.
'It just happened to be my lucky day,' he told lottery officials.
But it wasn't his only lucky day recently. Sink told the N.C. Education Lottery that he won $10,000 a week earlier on another ticket.
'It's kind of hard to fathom,' he said. 'I'm tickled to death about this.'
He collected his winnings as a lump sum of $6 million and walked away with $4,305,014 after taxes, according to the N.C. Education Lottery.
The construction business owner told lottery officials he plans to use his life-changing prize to buy equipment for work, invest and pay bills.
One top prize of $10 million remains in the game, which debuted in December 2023.
Winston-Salem in Forsyth County is about an 80-mile drive northeast from Charlotte.

First-time scratch-off player didn't know he won — until grandma saw NC ticket
A man decided to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket for the first time in North Carolina because he had 'seen lots of other people win.' But it wasn't until he showed the ticket to his grandma that he realized he had won himself. Amir Dickerson of Onslow County turned a $5 Mega Bucks ticket into a $200,000 top prize, the North Carolina Education Lottery said July 8. 'I just got lucky,' he told lottery officials. Dickerson bought his ticket at a Shell gas station in Jacksonville, but after he scratched it, the inexperienced lottery player said he didn't realize what he was seeing. 'I actually didn't know that I won at first,' he told lottery officials. 'I gave the ticket to my grandma to look at and she told me I won.' Dickerson's beginner's luck helped him beat the 1-in-1,234,580 odds to win one of nine top prizes in the game, which debuted in August, according to lottery records. 'It was just like shock,' he said. 'I was so happy.' He ended up with $143,501 after taxes and told lottery officials he plans to use the money to help his family. 'I'm just thankful,' Dickerson added. Five top prizes remain in the scratch-off game. Dickerson is from Richlands, which is about a 60-mile drive northeast from Wilmington.

Mom of five wins millions in NC lottery — and can't wait to tell her children
A mom of five won a huge lottery prize — and couldn't wait to share the news with her children. 'I got them on a video call and told them, 'We are millionaires,'' Cesaltina Ribeiro told the North Carolina Education Lottery. As Ribeiro basks in her $4.7 million win, she plans to treat her loved ones to a new home and a family vacation. 'It's an amazing feeling,' Ribeiro told lottery officials in a July 7 news release. 'Now I can do a lot more.' Ribeiro was in bed when she went online to try her luck on the Outlaw's Loot game. It turns out, her $1 ticket beat 1-in-50 million odds to hit the jackpot, McClatchy News reported. The lucky winner called her kids right away, but they were concerned at first. 'I kept yelling so they didn't know what was going on,' Ribeiro told lottery officials. Ribeiro couldn't contain herself after scoring the second-highest prize ever won in the lottery's digital instant games. The record holder is a $6.7 million ticket sold in April, McClatchy News reported. Ribeiro kept $3.3 million after taxes. In addition to helping her family, the mother and grandmother hopes to invest her prize money. She lives in Elm City, a roughly 50-mile drive east from Raleigh.

Lottery player's $1 ticket turns into $4.7 million jackpot win in North Carolina
A lottery player scored a life-changing win on a lucky day in North Carolina. The player spent $1 on a ticket that won $4.7 million in the Outlaw's Loot game, results show. But the winner isn't the only person who's set to get richer. Another lottery player hit the jackpot in the Carolina Cash 5 game, making their ticket worth $318,544, the N.C. Education Lottery wrote in a news release. Both players won big Thursday, July 3, meaning they had extra reasons to celebrate as they kicked off their Fourth of July weekend. Here's where the lucky tickets came from: Outlaw's Loot ticket sold to an online player in Elm CityCash 5 ticket sold in Maggie Valley Outlaw's Loot, a progressive jackpot game that features a prize wheel and digital icons, offers online tickets starting at 50 cents. The winner beat 1-in-50 million odds to score the top prize, lottery officials wrote on their website. A spokesperson previously told McClatchy News the lottery can't pinpoint where digital instant tickets are sold. But it knows the $4.7 million winner is from Elm City, a roughly 50-mile drive east from Raleigh. Meanwhile, the Cash 5 ticket was sold at Maggie Valley Mart, a roughly 35-mile drive west from the mountain town of Asheville. To win a jackpot prize in that game, a player must match all five numbers picked in a drawing. The winning numbers from the July 3 drawing: 7-8-17-23-40. Lottery officials shared news of the wins July 4, when claims centers were closed for Independence Day. In North Carolina, jackpot winners have about six months to come forward, rules show.
