
Wealth management outlook: India's wealth firms set for over 20% annual growth on HNI surge, says Jefferies; rising attrition & cost pressures flagged as key risks
Jefferies said the core wealth management (WM) segment in India is likely to see strong momentum, backed by expanding client bases, stronger relationship manager (RM) networks, and improved productivity, ANI reported.
'Leading WMs can grow +20 per cent in core wealth AUM (assets under management) over the next three years,' Jefferies said in the report, while cautioning that the HNI space is becoming increasingly crowded, and revenue models are evolving.
'The HNI space is crowded and revenue streams are more layered. Transition from distribution to advisory model is key, but needs to be timed well,' the report noted.
Wealth managers are increasingly targeting the ultra-high-net-worth individual (UHNI) segment, where ticket sizes are significantly larger. While the advisory model yields lower fees — typically 30–45 basis points compared to 50–100 bps under the distribution model — it provides benefits such as scale, deeper client relationships and stronger retention.
Still, Jefferies cautioned that shifting too early to the advisory model could dent profitability, particularly when companies are still investing in growth and have not yet achieved optimal AUM per client.
The report also highlighted that India's HNI market remains fragmented, with stiff competition from both domestic and foreign players, including banks and brokers.
As the industry grows, Jefferies warned of mounting cost pressures and attrition risks, urging firms to manage these challenges effectively to sustain long-term growth.

The announcement underlines Meta's growing investment in AI infrastructure, part of its broader strategy to develop 'superintelligence', an advanced form of AI that could outperform humans in a wide range of tasks. According to Zuckerberg, the company intends to spend'hundreds of billions of dollars' on these efforts, signalling a long-term commitment to lead the global AI race. Notably, the scale of the infrastructure is unprecedented. Meta's largest data centre, currently under construction in Richland Parish, Louisiana, is said to be nearly the size of Manhattan. By comparison, most existing data centres operate with only a few hundred megawatts of capacity. Meta's upcoming facilities aim to cross the one-gigawatt threshold, enough energy to power around 900,000 homes annually, marking a new benchmark in data processing power. Meta's aggressive expansion comes amid growing industry competition. Other major tech players, including OpenAI and Oracle, are also investing in large-scale data centre projects to keep up with the soaring computational needs of generative AI models. Analyst group SemiAnalysis has forecasted that Meta may be the first to achieve a 'supercluster' exceeding one gigawatt of capacity. Zuckerberg's renewed focus on AI follows internal frustrations with the company's previous performance in the field. Over recent months, he has personally recruited a formidable team of AI experts, poaching talent from rivals such as OpenAI and Google DeepMind. Among the high-profile additions is Alexandr Wang, co-founder of Scale AI, who now serves as Meta's Chief AI Officer following a $14.3 billion investment for a 49 per cent stake in his company. So, why was Nvidia barred from selling these chips to China? A brief look at H20 chips First, take a brief look at the H20 chips. These chips means they are not as powerful as Nvidia's top-of-the-line models. They are essentially as what is known as 'second-tier'. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The H20 chips were designed by Nvidia specifically for the China market and to get around export controls on AI chips imposed by the previous Joe Biden administration. The Biden administration had imposed this export ban amid a growing battle with China over Artificial Intelligence. The administration cited national security issues as behind the move. Both countries are desperate to outdo each other in the field of AI. Nvidia in May 2024 had announced it was writing off H20 chips were billions of dollars – a huge blow to the company's bottom line. 'It doesn't really fit anywhere else without a lot of expensive tweaking,' Arash Azadegan, a professor of supply chain management at Rutgers Business School, told Fortune. In February, major Chinese firms such as Alibaba, ByteDance, and Tencent purchased these chips from Nvidia. Nvidia has said that it hopes to resume deliveries to China soon. It also announced a new chip for China which is 'fully compliant'. This came a month after DeepSeek's announcement which caused chaos in Silicon Valley and dealt a severe blow to the value of AI firms on Wall Street. Trump administration bans H20 chip exports, reverses its decision However, the Commerce Department of the Trump administration in April 2025 had disallowed Nvidia from sending even sending these 'second-tier' to China. This came as the two countries were increasingly at odds over tariffs. Trump in April had unveiled his 'Liberation Day' tariffs on dozens of countries including China. Beijing hit back at Trump and unveiled its own tariffs against America. Experts had predicted an even greater blow to Nvidia's bottom line if the Trump administration did not reverse its decision. Nvidia said the decision would cost the company between $5 billion and $15 billion. So, what happened? Like many before, Huang went directly to the source of his problem – meeting Trump at the White House. Huang is said to have made his case directly to the US president. He is said to have argued that sales to China would help keep American companies ahead in the global AI race. However, Huang is likely more concerned about Nvidia's bottom line. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD China comprised about 13 per cent of the company's sales and generated around $17 billion for the firm in the latest fiscal year. Huang has also spoken about the importance of the Chinese market to Nvidia. The Chinese market is massive, dynamic, and highly innovative, and it's also home to many AI researchers," Huang told Chinese state broadcaster CCTV on Tuesday. 'Therefore, it is indeed crucial for American companies to establish roots in the Chinese market.' But others are far more cautious about China's ambitions. 'It's very hard to disentangle China's AI ambitions for the commercial space from the military space,' an ex-US Commerce Department official told Washington Post. 'Jensen has been very clear that he doesn't see a military nexus to what he sells', the former official added. But 'there was plenty of open source and classified intelligence showing that the PLA was working quite hard to get its hands on these chips'. The Biden administration had imposed this export ban amid a growing battle with China over Artificial Intelligence. Reuters They also remain sceptical about Nvidia's value to China in the long run. 'China is in a weird position because they continue to be dependent on Nvidia and its product lines to sustain near-term growth in China's AI industry,' Ryan Fedasiuk, a former tech policy adviser in the U.S. State Department's Office of China Coordination, told the newspaper. In May, Reuters reported Nvidia was preparing to launch a new AI chip, based on the RTX Pro 6000D, in China at a significantly lower price point than the H20. The graphics processing unit would be part of Nvidia's latest generation Blackwell-architecture AI processors and was expected to be priced well below the H20 due to its weaker specifications and simpler manufacturing requirements. It remains unknown if this decision by Trump has any link to trade talks between the US and China. Both countries have backed off their threats. Google inks $3 billion US hydropower deal in largest clean energy agreement of its kind
NEW YORK -Google has agreed to secure as much as 3 gigawatts of U.S. hydropower in the world's largest corporate clean power pact for hydroelectricity, the company said on Tuesday, as Big Tech pursues the expansion of energy-hungry data centers. The deal between Google and Brookfield Asset Management includes initial 20-year power purchase agreements, totaling $3 billion, for electricity generated from two hydropower facilities in Pennsylvania. The technology industry is intensifying the hunt for massive amounts of clean electricity to power data centers needed for artificial intelligence and cloud computing, which has driven U.S. power consumption to record highs after nearly two decades of stagnation. Ruth Porat, president and chief investment officer at Google parent company Alphabet, is expected to discuss the news at an AI summit in Pittsburgh. U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend the event, where $70 billion in AI and energy investments are expected to be announced. "This collaboration with Brookfield is a significant step forward, ensuring clean energy supply in the PJM region where we operate," Amanda Peterson Corio, Google's head of data center energy, said in a statement. Over roughly the last year, Google has struck several first-of-a-kind power purchase agreements, including for carbon-free geothermal energy and advanced nuclear. The company is also working with the country's largest electricity grid operator, PJM Interconnection, to use AI to speed up the process of hooking up new power supplies to the grid. In the latest deal, Google said it has signed an initial framework agreement with Brookfield, owner of Brookfield Renewable Partners, which develops and operates renewable energy plants. Its two hydropower sites in Pennsylvania will be upgraded and relicensed as part of the arrangement, the companies said. Google said it plans to expand the deal eventually beyond those sites to other parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest.
