University of Tripoli Signs Scientific Cooperation Agreements with Turkish Institutions
According to a statement published on the university's official Facebook page, the agreements cover faculty and student exchange, joint supervision of postgraduate students, and collaborative research. The deal also includes coordination to jointly apply for Erasmus scholarships funded by the European Union.
The move comes as the University of Tripoli marks a milestone in its academic development. On 22 June, Libya's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced that the university had been listed among the world's top 1,500 universities by the QS World University Rankings — the first Libyan institution to achieve this distinction.
The QS rankings, published annually by British company Quacquarelli Symonds, evaluate universities worldwide based on various academic and research performance indicators. The system is widely used by students and academics when considering higher education opportunities. Education Tagged: University of Tripoli Middle East University Ankara University

Shell and BP to resume operations in Libya by late 2025
Oil giants Shell and BP have announced plans to reopen their offices in Tripoli and resume operations in Libya by the fourth quarter of 2025. The move marks a return to the North African country after years of suspension. It was confirmed during the signing of two memoranda of understanding in London, attended by Masoud Suleiman, Chairman of Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC), who welcomed the renewed engagement. Suleiman said he hoped the renewed partnerships would also contribute to training technical and leadership staff in Libya, describing the return as a key step toward revitalising the country's oil sector. Shell's agreement includes feasibility studies for the development of the Al-Atshan field and other NOC-owned assets. BP will focus on evaluating exploration and production potential in the Messla and Sarir fields and surrounding areas. Economy Tagged: british petroleum Shell

LIA showcases its asset deployment plan and international partnership strategy in London
The Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) held an investment forum in London to present its vision and future plan for deploying its assets, strengthening international partnerships, and exploring new investment opportunities that contribute to supporting the Libyan economy and achieving long-term financial sustainability. The forum was held last Thursday with the participation of representatives from international banks, asset managers, and investment funds. LIA delivered a detailed presentation on its financial investment portfolio, in line with the UN Security Council resolution that permits it to invest its assets, according to a statement published on the Authority's Facebook page on Monday. Participating institutions included Bank of New York, JPMorgan, Euroclear, Qatar National Bank, Jefferies, as well as the financial services companies Marks, Western Asset, Notz Stucki, Waverton, Sculptor, Carlyle, and Federated Hermes. In January, the UN Security Council issued Resolution 2769 for the year 2025, allowing the LIA to invest its frozen cash reserves in low-risk time deposits with international financial institutions, while keeping the principal and returns frozen. It also permitted the reinvestment of accumulated cash held by investment fund managers, under the same freezing conditions. The Libyan Investment Authority holds assets valued at $39.5 billion, divided into three investment portfolios: time deposits representing 57.5% of the total portfolio, equities at 23.49%, and investment funds at 19.01%.
