ICIEC inks credit insurance policy with Al Baraka Islamic Bank

The Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC), a shariah-based multilateral insurer and member of Islamic Development Bank Group, has signed a documentary credit insurance policy with Bahrain-based Al Baraka Islamic Bank. As per the deal, ICIEC will provide insurance coverage for the confirmation of Letters of Credit (LCs) issued by Al Baraka Islamic Bank in connection with the import and export of eligible shariah-compliant goods and services, said the Corporation in a statement. This solution will help mitigate payment risks associated with cross-border trade while promoting sustainable growth in ICIEC's member states, it stated. The DCIP serves as a vital tool for Islamic banks, enhancing their ability to expand trade finance operations with reduced exposure to commercial and political risks. The policy also complements ICIEC's broader mandate to promote economic resilience, financial inclusion, and private sector development in member countries. It aims to strengthen support for shariah-compliant trade finance, enabling greater security and confidence in the international trade ecosystem, remarked Dr. Khalid Khalafalla, Chief Executive Officer of ICIEC, after signing the deal with Dr. Adel Salem, Chief Executive Officer of Al Baraka Islamic Bank BSC Bahrain, "This strategic collaboration with Al Baraka Islamic Bank reflects ICIEC's unwavering commitment to advancing intra-OIC trade and investment," he noted. "By supporting shariah-compliant trade finance through our Documentary Credit Insurance Policy, we are facilitating secure trade flows while empowering Islamic banks to broaden their offerings to clients. This partnership demonstrates the power of multilateral cooperation in achieving shared development goals," he added. Both institutions reaffirmed their shared dedication to expanding the reach of Islamic finance, strengthening risk mitigation tools, and contributing to inclusive and sustainable economic development, said the statement. The duo is putting in a joint effort to enhance the capacity of Islamic financial institutions to manage trade-related risks more effectively, it added. Dr Salem said: "We are delighted to partner with ICIEC on this pioneering Credit Insurance Policy, which empowers us to extend shariah‑compliant trade finance to our clients, bolster Bahrain's role as a regional hub for Islamic banking, and stimulate sustainable economic growth across member states worldwide." "This collaboration underscores our unwavering commitment to innovation and robust risk management, giving the businesses we serve greater confidence to expand in global markets," he added.- TradeArabia News Service Copyright 2024 Al Hilal Publishing and Marketing Group Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. The successful pre-sale and strong market debut mark a significant step in the Group's ongoing digital transformation strategy, further enhancing its four-pillar ecosystem. Delivering utility across a range of financial applications, $MBG stands apart from speculative tokens by being anchored in substantial real-world assets (RWA), supported by an average daily trading volume of $35 billion and $29 billion in audited holdings. A $440 million buyback and burn program, scheduled over four years, will contribute to stability and future growth. Additionally, the token is incorporated into the forthcoming MEX Exchange, an institutional-grade crypto Electronic Communication Network (ECN) designed for large-scale liquidity aggregation and currently valued at $23.7 billion. $MBG is also integrated with real estate tokenization marketplace, developed in partnership with MAG Lifestyle Development through a $3 billion agreement to introduce premium properties such as the Ritz-Carlton Residences. Finally, it underpins the Group's highly regulated crypto exchange and the main platform for $MBG market activity. The exchange enables spot trading, derivatives, and soon, future DeFi integrations.

Shariah-compliant stocks turn UAE markets into year's hottest trade

The UAE's local equity markets have delivered standout returns over the past year, cementing the country's position as one of the world's best-performing investment destinations. Dubai's equity benchmark, the DFM General Index, surged more than 27 per cent in 2024 and is up a further 18 per cent year-to-date in 2025. This broad-based rally spans financials, real estate, and newly listed infrastructure companies, with Shariah-compliant stocks featuring prominently among the top performers. According to Josh Gilbert, market analyst at eToro, this momentum reflects growing investor demand for high-growth opportunities in ethically screened assets. 'Shariah-compliant stocks in the UAE have become a strong draw for both regional and international investors looking to combine financial returns with responsible investing principles,' he said. Standout names include Salik, Dubai's exclusive toll-gate operator, whose shares have soared approximately 80 per cent, including dividends, over the last 12 months. Parkin, the city's public parking operator, has seen its stock price surge over 200 per cent including dividends since its IPO last year, as investors respond positively to its stable, defensive revenue model. The financial services sector has also played a key role in driving market performance. Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), the UAE's second-largest Islamic bank, has posted gains of over 98 per cent including dividends in the last 12 months. Strong digital transformation, rising profit margins, and growing demand for Shariah-compliant financial services have underpinned this growth. Similarly, Amlak Finance, a key Islamic home financing provider, has seen its stock more than double in value over the past year, boosted by Dubai's thriving property market. In the real estate sector, Union Properties has emerged as one of the top performers of 2025, with shares rising over 100 per cent year-to-date. Its successful restructuring and the broader real estate upcycle have positioned it just behind Amlak Finance as one of the best-performing stocks on the DFM Index this year. These exceptional performances reflect renewed investor confidence in UAE equities. Strong macroeconomic fundamentals — including a projected real GDP growth of 4.4 per cent in 2025 and 5.4 per cent in 2026 — are helping to sustain momentum. High-profile IPOs like Parkin have further energized market participation, creating fresh investment opportunities and affirming global interest in the UAE's capital markets. Today, both the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) and Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) host a robust lineup of Shariah-screened stocks, with a large portion of all listed companies adhering to Islamic investment principles. The UAE's status as a global Islamic finance hub continues to attract capital from both Shariah-compliant and conventional investors looking to tap into the region's dynamic growth story. A compelling combination of market-beating returns, solid fundamentals, and ethical investment appeal is making UAE equities — particularly Shariah-compliant stocks — an increasingly attractive destination for regional and international capital. As the country continues to diversify its economy and bring more companies to market, investor interest in these instruments is likely to deepen further, analysts say.
