Avowed's Best Spear Is A Poisonous Pointy Stick Called Umpara

Yahoo07-03-2025
It's hard to deny that spears are a cool weapon, as few things scream 'deadly' quite so much as a stick with a pointy end. Avowed features a few solid Spears to choose for your melee weapon, but the poisonous Umpara's Spear and its excellent critical damage bonus makes it one of the best choices for many builds. Here's what you need to know about this pokey stick and how to find it.
Umpara's Spear comes with the Strike the Heart passive bonus, which proves a bonus of +25 percent critical hit damage. This is a significant amount of crit damage, and builds focused on this stat can make immense use of it.
Umpara's Spear comes with the Deadly Mechanism enchantment, which causes Power Attacks to launch a poison dart to the damaged enemy. You can choose one of two permanent upgrades to this enchantment:
Paralyzing Toxin - The poison dart released during a Power Attack now spreads poison accumulation to nearby enemies as well.
Unbalancing Rhythm - Full combo attacks slow an enemy and decreases their damage reduction by 20 percent for 10 seconds.
Umpara's Spear is one of the rewards earned during the 'Heart of Valor' side quest in Shatterscarp. You'll obtain this quest in Thirdborn by speaking to Chiko, to the south of the city's entrance. He's pretty hard to miss—especially since the city is rather small to begin with.
'Heart of Valor' takes you on a lengthy journey to uncover the Heart of the Leviathan. After you've found it, you'll be given a choice whether to offer it to Chiko or his uncle, Keipo. When you encounter this choice, give the Heart of the Leviathan to Chiko. During the conversation, choose to keep the secret about Keipo's lies. For this, Chiko will hand over Umpara's Spear.
Now that you've got a good stick for poking baddies, get back out there into The Living Lands and let 'em have it.

Michelle Obama gets real on parenting: 'I'm so glad I didn't have a boy'

Michelle Obama says she's "so glad" she didn't have a boy with former President Barack Obama. On a Wednesday, June 18 episode of her "IMO" podcast, she told Craig Robinson, her brother and co-host, and radio icon Angie Martinez that "I'm so glad I didn't have a boy" while discussing the difficulties of raising boys. The Obamas share two daughters: 26-year-old filmmaker Malia Ann and University of Southern California alum Sasha Obama, who recently turned 24. Martinez suggested that Obama and her "A Promised Land" author husband "should've thrown a boy in the mix." But Obama said she's "glad" because "he would've been a Barack Obama!" jokingly shading the former president's strong personality and suggesting that a son would have been challenging. Celebrities tell all about aging, marriage and Beyoncé in these 10 bingeable memoirs When Martinez said that a "baby Barack" would have been "amazing," the forthcoming "Look" book author explained to the "IRL" podcast host that she "would've felt for him." Robinson — a father of one daughter Leslie and three sons Avery, Austin and Aaron — added to the conversation by quipping that his sister "borrowed our boys." Michelle Obama previously broke silence on daughter's name change Earlier this month, Obama made headlines when she broke her silence on eldest daughter Malia Ann's decision to drop her last name. Malia Ann, who is pursuing a film career in Hollywood, used her middle name as her artistic name for the credits of 2023 short film "The Heart" which she wrote and directed, that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024. "Our daughters (Malia and Sasha) are 25 and 23. They are young adult women, but they definitely went through a period in their teen years where it was the push away. … They're still doing that," Obama told famous siblings Oliver and Kate Hudson on their "Sibling Revelry" podcast. The "Becoming" author added that "it is very important for my kids to feel like they've earned what they are getting in the world, and they don't want people to assume that they don't work hard, that they're just naturally, just handed things. They're very sensitive to that – they want to be their own people."

Obsidian Reiterates $80 ‘Outer Worlds 2' Price Is On Xbox, Not Them

The Outer Worlds 2 Obsidian Obsidian is having a big year of releases between this spring's Avowed and this summer's The Outer Worlds 2, in addition to the reveal of Grounded 2 on top of that. But while Obsidian works hard on all these games, the one thing they do not do is set the price, and that's an issue that's emerged in the wake of the reveal that The Outer Worlds 2 would be Xbox's first $80 game. Microsoft promised that $80 games were coming this year after Nintendo broke the dam with Mario Kart World. Sony does not seem to have hopped on board yet, Ghost of Yotei will be $70 this fall, but Microsoft is eager to get started. The Outer Worlds 2's director, Brandon Adler, had this to say about the pricing when asked about it at SGF: If this were say, Perfect Dark or something along those lines, I don't think we'd be having this same conversation. Rather, it's that this is an Obsidian game releasing at this price point. Not that these games are bad, but just that they're not exactly sprawling a lot of the time compared to their AAA compatriots. The Outer Worlds was released at the then-standard price of $60 back in 2019, and performed well enough to warrant this sequel. This year, Avowed cost $70, and sales of that were…nebulous. Microsoft did not exactly brag about that game's performance very much, be it on Game Pass or the sales front. But while being at the 'standard' price for AAA games has been the norm, this is a bit different as Microsoft has chosen this as a sacrificial lamb for the $80 price point. Well, perhaps that's too extreme. A crash-test dummy? Hm. Outer Worlds Obsidian The situation is more complicated here because of Xbox Game Pass. Subscribers don't care whether the price is $40, $60 or $80 because it will be included day one there regardless. Rather, the price exists for those outside the system, and is Microsoft wants to push more subs, it now can say simply 'three games a year cost exactly the same as a year of Game Pass Ultimate ($240)' when for the lower prices that wasn't the case. Of course, Game Pass prices are no doubt going to go up again at some point, too. Game pricing can be frustrating for developers as like Obsidian says, it's simply not up to them when they're not an independent entity. For a game like say, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, that team can set the price at $50 if they want to (even if that was easily worth $70 or $80 for the experience). Or it also comes up if a game should be free-to-play or premium at baseline. Not going to be up to the developer. Will The Outer Worlds 2 perform well at the $80 price point? When it comes to Xbox, that's a black box at this point. At best, Xbox will brag about 'engagement,' but we won't know sales numbers, plus sales are always low because of Game Pass anyway. But this does seem like a strange game to start this trend with, and I'm not sure how amused the developer is about it. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Former President Obama shares rare family photo on daughter Sasha's 24th birthday

The Obama family marked Sasha Obama's 24th birthday this week with a celebratory and rare family photo. Former President Barack Obama shared birthday wishes for his youngest daughter, writing in an Instagram post Tuesday, "Happy birthday, Sasha! Watching you grow into the incredible woman you are has been a true gift. I'll always be proud of you and will always be here for you." Michelle Obama also shared the same picture of the family, who are all smiling in the snapshot. "Happy birthday to my sweet girl, Sasha!" the former first lady captioned her Instagram post. "Can't believe how quickly time has flown. I'm so proud of the woman you've become. Love you always! 💕🥳🎉." Sasha Obama was born in June 2001, nearly eight years before the family moved into the White House for the former president's first term in January 2009. She and her older sister Malia Obama, now 26, grew up in the presidential home for eight years, during their father's two terms in office, until 2017. In a July 2024 interview with Melinda French Gates' podcast, "Moments That Make Us," Michelle Obama opened up about raising her daughters at the White House during their formative years. "Well, those girls had to be smart and confident and independent straight away, even when they were living in a house with butlers and maids and florists," she said. "But I was raising them thinking, 'You're not going to live here, and with me, forever. So I've got to hand you your life soon and let you manage it.'" Sasha Obama graduated from the University of Southern California in May 2023, and Malia Obama, who graduated from Harvard University in 2021, now works in the film and TV industry. Her short film, "The Heart," premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.
