Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as continuous downpours have led to
waterlogging
and disrupted normal life in several low-lying areas. No casualties or major damage have been reported so far.
Continuous downpours have led to waterlogging and disrupted normal life in several low-lying areas, officials said.
Meanwhile, the
Border Roads Organisation
(BRO) is undertaking road construction work in the hilly areas of the Pir Panjal region of Rajouri to improve connectivity and reduce waterlogging in market areas such as Kotranka, Samote, and Budhal.
Live Events
"Wherever there is a problem of waterlogging, especially in market areas, we are constructing concrete pavements," said Sanjay Sharma, a BRO engineer. "The drains in the market were often clogged, leading to water overflow on roads. We've now covered those areas with concrete pavements and are also addressing damaged road patches," he said.
Sharma added that the initiative aims to ensure smoother travel and maintain road safety, with regular maintenance underway.
Furthermore, in the neighbouring state, Himachal Pradesh, two people died in a rain-triggered landslide in Chamba district on Monday. A boulder fell on a house during heavy rainfall.
Ashwani, who is a Patwari, while talking to ANI, said, "Due to the rain, a landslide occurred last night. As a result, a boulder fell on a house, and two people tragically died in the incident. Their bodies were recovered from the debris with the help of the police and taken to Chamba Hospital. The government also provided immediate relief to the victims. Currently, we are further assessing the danger in the area and preparing a report on the losses."

British Indian hotelier Surinder Arora in race to expand Heathrow Airport

One of Britain's leading Indian-origin hoteliers, Surinder Arora , on Thursday revealed plans to join the race to expand Heathrow Airport with a cost-efficient solution that offers a fully operational third runway by 2035. The Arora Group , behind some of the UK's prominent hotels and luxury resorts, said its "Heathrow West" proposal to the UK government has been developed alongside American civil engineers Bechtel, who have a track record of delivering airport projects globally. Story to Hear Undo "After a decade working with our world leading design and delivery team, I am very proud that the Arora Group can finally unveil to the UK government our Heathrow West proposal , which directly meets and supports the United Kingdom's primary objective of unlocking economic growth at the UK's only hub airport, with a strong commitment of doing so on-budget and on-time," said Arora. "We are delighted that the government has taken a common-sense approach to invite proposals from all interested parties for the very first time rather than granting exclusivity to the current airport operator, no matter its track record. I want the UK to succeed... Our project will generate employment and skills training opportunities across every region of the UK." Live Events The billionaire tycoon claimed that his plans incorporate simpler and less disruptive construction, enabling earlier delivery of new terminal capacity and avoiding the major disruption of building over the M25 highway. "Heathrow West will have a board that comprises members with proven track records in governance, finance, construction, aviation and sustainability. Furthermore, Heathrow West will be committed to working with airlines to adapt its design to ensure it provides value for money and operational resilience while promoting technological innovation," said Carlton Brown, CEO of Heathrow West. "Ultimately, I want to see Heathrow help Britain become the best-connected nation in the world and facilitate the trade and inward investment our UK economy needs in order to compete with the rest of the world. There is no reason as to why the UK's only hub cannot outcompete not just its European rivals, but also Dubai, Singapore and others." The company said building a shorter 2,800-metre third runway, instead of the full-length 3,500-metre runway planned by the airport, would result in "reduced risk" and avoid "spiralling cost". With a shorter runway, efficient construction programme, fewer dependencies and a clear path to site mobilisation, the evidence provided in the submission strongly suggests that this scheme, and the new runway in particular, can be delivered in the target timeframe of 10 years while offering a more acceptable and cost-effective solution, the property and retail group said. The plan by the British Indian hotel magnate includes building a new terminal, which would open in two phases in 2036 and 2040. Locally to Heathrow in west London, the Arora Group properties include the Hilton Garden Inn London, Holiday Inn Express Heathrow T4 and Sofitel London Heathrow T5. Its portfolio also includes the Fairmont Windsor Park, InterContinental London - The O2, and Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa - which served as host during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day visit to the UK last week. UK Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander is set to review the Airports National Policy Statement, which provides the basis for decision-making on the Heathrow expansion, the government's agenda to meet the ever-increasing air traffic demands at Britain's largest international airport.

The Hundred looking to feed off IPL's 'phenomenal growth' after drawing Indian investment

The investment of four IPL owners into The Hundred will enable the England and Wales Cricket Board-backed event to grow rapidly and learn immensely from the skills possessed by the top minds working for the world's biggest T20 league . Out of the eight teams in the 100-ball competition, four will be partially owned by owners of Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals (only GMR group involved). Reliance Group , which will own 49 percent of the London-based Oval franchise, and Trent Rockets are yet to close agreements with the ECB. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo "It's brilliant. You look at what the IPL has done, forget cricket, in sport in general, the growth it's achieved in 18 short years. It's nothing short of phenomenal," said Vikram Banerji , Managing Director of The Hundred, in response to a PTI query on Thursday. "So the growth and the learnings, both on the field and off the field, that they can bring into this tournament, with the balance of the other investors that we've got from America and wherever else, I'm really excited about that side of things, about the skill sets that are now coming into English cricket," he said. Live Events The deal will take effect from 2026 season and the investors will take operation control of the franchise from October 1, 2025. Asked about the reason for the delay in closing the agreement with the Reliance-backed Oval franchise and Trent Rockets, Banerji said: "Right at the start we offered all the investors the opportunity to sign and close immediately whenever the legals were all done and have some involvement in this year. "On the whole, it's been run as it was, or close formally at the end of the season, early October, when they close formally, when they take operational control of the name of the brand. So those two chose that months ago. "With Trent Rockets, it's documents were signed and all the rest of it fully there. With the Oval Invincibles, there's three things left on their venue hire stuff that they're working through. They're small things, it'll be a matter of weeks, and that'll get signed out." Banerji and the rest of the stakeholders will soon have a meeting with the new investors for the tournament operations from 2026 onwards. Barring The Hundred, all leagues including the IPL are being played in the T20 format. Is there an inclination from the IPL owners to switch to the standard T20 format from the current 100-ball a side format? "I think you have to look at what works in this country. There have been some discussions around kind of it works elsewhere, but in this country, the format has provided us with some really interesting things, especially from a broadcast perspective in terms of the reach it's provided and that ability to create a new crowd. "At the moment, it's the 100 format, and that will remain for now. But let's see where we get to in a month," said Banerji, who added the participation of active Indian players remains off the card despite the IPL investment into the competition. Sitting alongside Banerji, ECB chief executive Richard Gould, was also asked about the participation of Pakistan players in The Hundred in light of Indian investment . No Pakistan player was picked in the 2025 draft for different reasons. Gould asserted the ECB will take action if the owners are found to be discriminatory in player selection irrespective of his nationality. "We would expect players of all nations to be selected for all teams. I haven't had the need to have any discussion at this point (with new investors)." So is the latest draft just a coincidence? "I don't, I don't know. But we have not had any discussions with the owners at this point. But, we've got very clear anti-discrimination policies within cricket in England. And if those are, if those are not adhered to, our cricket regulator will take action," said Gould. Now that the deals are done, the ECB expects the change in name of at least three teams backed by IPL team owners including Reliance, RPSG and GMR. The sale of stakes have catapulted the valuation of teams to over 975 million pounds with more than 500 million pounds set to be invested in English cricket.

Mumbai property market maintains steady pace in July on demand, infra boost

Mumbai, the country's biggest and most expensive property market, remained on firm ground in July, with sustained end-user demand and growing preference for larger, premium homes continuing to shape buying activity. Stable interest levels and ongoing infrastructure upgrades across the city have helped maintain market momentum even after price growth and ready reckoner rates rise that was implemented from April 1. Lulutox Undo 'Mumbai's residential market continues to show steady buyer confidence, with monthly registrations consistently crossing the 12,000-mark in residential registrations. While there has been some softening in demand for mid-ticket segments, demand for larger homes and properties priced above Rs 5 crore remains strong, supporting healthy revenue collections,' said Shishir Baijal, CMD, Knight Frank India. This marked the tenth consecutive month of registrations staying above the 11,000-mark, a clear indicator of consistent buyer sentiment. On a month-on-month basis property registrations increased by 7% while stamp duty collections increased by 6%. Live Events 'The uptick in housing sales highlights how strongly infrastructure upgrades are influencing buyer sentiment. As metro lines, expressways, a new airport, and civic amenities offering strategic connectivity take shape, homebuyers are growing more confident about investing in emerging corridors. The momentum is also driven by diverse residential and commercial growth supported by infra-led development and emerging communities,' said Anuj Goradia, Director, Dosti Realty. During the January-July period, total registrations rose 5% on-year to 88,570, while stamp duty revenue grew 14% to Rs 7,853 crore, marking the strongest seven-month performance ever on this count. The market continued to be driven by residential demand, with 80% of registrations during the month were for residential properties. The share of high-value transactions continued to grow, with properties priced above Rs 5 crore accounting for 6% of all deals in July, compared to 5% a year ago. The mid-market category of Rs 1 crore to Rs 5 crore saw a slight decline in share, however, the category below Rs 1 crore grew marginally. Apartments up to 1,000 sq ft remained dominant, contributing 82% of all registrations. Within this, the 500–1,000 sq ft segment held steady at 46%, while the 1,000-2,000 sq ft segment rose to 14%. The western and central suburbs continued to drive the market, together accounting for 88% of all registrations. The western suburbs contributed 57%, central suburbs 31%, while South Mumbai's share eased to 6%.
