PM Anwar: Don't belittle RM100 SARA aid
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said that while the amount may seem small to high-income earners, it means a lot to rural communities and low-income groups.
'(Critics say) it's just RM100, but you're earning RM40,000 or RM20,000 a month. Of course, RM100 means nothing to you, but I know its value when we go to the villages,' he said during the Finance Ministry's assembly here today.
The Prime Minister also explained that for a poor household with two adult children and a married couple, the cash assistance would total RM400, and when combined with the existing Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah, the amount could increase to as much as RM700.
'...so don't trivialise these efforts, because this is what we (the government) can do to add to the existing allocation, from RM13 billion to RM15 billion,' Anwar said. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 465 cases of encroachment on federal land were recorded from 2015 to May 2025, said Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. The acting Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability minister said most encroachers use the land for squatter housing, small businesses, food stalls, and car wash operations. "According to the Land and Mines Department, there have been 465 cases of encroachment on federal land from 2015 to May 2025. "The total area of land owned by the Federal government is 215,406 hectares. In the case of Penang, 26 complaints involved encroachment on federal land, affecting 18 land lots. "To deal with encroachment on federal land, the Land and Mines Department will coordinate with enforcement agencies, ministries, and the relevant departments. Under Section 425 of the National Land Code, enforcement notices will be issued to encroachers, for them to vacate the site. The relevant agency must then implement control measures to prevent further encroachment," he said in the Dewan Rakyat during Minister's Question Time. He was responding to a question from Dr Siti Mastura Muhammad (PN-Kepala Batas), who asked for details on encroachments on federal-owned land nationwide, specifically in Penang, the actions taken against encroachers, and whether there are plans to develop the land. Johari said the respective ministry or department must take action by installing signboards, fencing off the area, hiring security guards, and demolishing any illegal structures built by encroachers. "In more serious cases where encroachers refuse to vacate and structures have already been built, legal action will be taken. If found guilty, the penalty may be up to RM500,000," he said. Johari said each parcel of federal land has been earmarked for development based on priorities and allocations approved by the federal government. "To ensure optimal use of federal land, the Land and Mines Department facilitates land conversion for use by other ministries and federal agencies that require it, including through rental and leasing arrangements," he said. He was responding to a question from Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan (BN-Kuala Pilah) on the ministry's long-term strategic plan to address the poor management of government assets, including abandoned buildings, which has led to encroachment and wastage of national resources. Johari said once a ministry or department is assigned a piece of federal land, it becomes their responsibility. If a project or building on the land is abandoned, the respective ministry must rehabilitate and repurpose it. "If the structure is old – over 40 or 50 years – and no longer suitable for use, the land must be returned to the federal government. The government will then consider alternative uses, such as affordable housing," he said.

Nga clarified that the figure was based on a report by the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp). He said that the government respects the Federal Constitution and upholds democratic principles by allowing peaceful assemblies, but such gatherings must be conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, including maintaining cleanliness. 'This includes maintaining cleanliness, and I was criticising unhygienic behaviour. I never said the Honourable Member for Pendang was the one who littered. "...the 20 tonnes of rubbish mentioned did not come from me. That figure was from the SWCorp report I received. Hundreds of our workers had to be mobilised to clean up the rubbish left behind after the black shirt rally," he said. Yesterday, Nga was reported as saying that a total of 20 tonnes of rubbish was collected following the rally, adding that cleanup operations were carried out until 3.30am. Meanwhile, Nga said that to date, 23 non-sanitary landfills have been safely closed under the Non-Sanitary Landfill Closure and Rehabilitation Plan, adding that another 155 open dumping sites nationwide will be closed in phases throughout the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) period. He said the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), through the National Solid Waste Management Department (JPSPN), is prioritising a progressive transformation from non-sanitary landfills to sanitary landfills equipped with leachate treatment plants, which function to treat the landfill liquid waste. In addition, he stated that the ministry has introduced a reuse approach for closed landfill sites by conducting rehabilitation efforts to ensure they are safe before developing them into public spaces, such as Lestari Parks, solar farms, and community facilities, thereby benefiting the local community.

MoT Urges Public To Use BAS.MY To Ensure Continuation Of Subsidised Bus Service
ALOR SETAR, July 28 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Transport is calling on the public to make full use of the stage bus service introduced under the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) programme, which is being rolled out in phases this year. Minister Anthony Loke said the government has allocated substantial funding to support this initiative, particularly in urban areas where the service is in operation. 'To convince the Finance Ministry to continue providing allocations to us, I need to show data and performance - that this service truly benefits the people. 'If the public doesn't use this service despite the affordable fares and convenience offered, we will struggle to justify further funding for its expansion,' Loke told reporters after launching the Kota Setar service today. Also present were Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who is also the co-chairman of the Kedah State Development Action Council, and Kedah State Agriculture, Plantation and Transport Committee chairman Dzowahir Ab Ghani. Loke said that the federal government has allocated RM78.5 million over five years, or RM15.7 million annually, to operate 13 SBST routes in Kedah. The Kota Setar service, which began operations in stages on June 1, has recorded approximately 30,000 users monthly, with numbers expected to reach 40,000 by the end of this month. 'We hope more people will use it. The cost to the government is fixed at RM15.7 million a year for Kedah, regardless of how many passengers use the service. 'The more passengers we have, the lower the average cost per passenger, making the government's investment more worthwhile,' the minister remarked.
