‘If anyone can expand markets beyond top 10 cr Indians...': Zerodha's Nithin Kamath on Jio-BlackRock's broking biz move
Online brokerage platform Zerodha's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nithin Kamath, in a social media post on LinkedIn, said that Jio-BlackRock entering the stock broking business is 'great news,' highlighting the need for wider participation in the Indian markets. According to Nithin Kamath, the Indian market is limited to only the nation's top 10 crore people participating due to the lack of wider audience reach. 'Many people asked me about Jio-BlackRock getting a stockbroking license. Firstly, this is great news. The biggest issue for the Indian markets is a lack of breadth in participation. We're largely limited to the top 10 crore Indians,' said Kamanth in his LinkedIn post. He said that if any company can expand the current market, it is Jio-BlackRock with its distribution power. 'If anyone can expand the markets beyond the top 10 crore Indians, it's probably Jio with all its distribution might. As for how many new Indian investors have the money to invest in the market, I don't know,' he said. Kamath focused on how Zerodha is not chasing"vanity metrics," and its idea is to stay profitable and stick to the principles and philosophies that have gotten it this far. 'At the heart of our philosophy is to always do the right thing for customers,' said Kamath in his LinkedIn post on 2 July 2025. Zerodha's philosophy is not to push customers to trade and ensure that there are no unnecessary notifications, dark patterns, etc, highlighted Kamath, stating that success over the long term has better odds if customers trade less. 'We understand that in the long term, the odds of success are better if customers trade less; most of our product decisions are based on this. We're not interested in acquiring customers using one plan and changing the pricing later,' said Kamath in his post. Zerodha CEO also said that the company is not in a hurry and is working for the 'long haul' to offer the best products and help the customers grow with the brokerage. However, Nithin Kamath also highlighted that the same can not be said about other financial services businesses in the sector, who are constantly seeking to grow their business at any cost. 'And yeah, I still feel our real competition is going to be more from first-generation founders who are running, breathing, and always thinking about broking. I somehow don't feel it is really going to be from incumbents. This is not a business where having deep pockets means you have a large moat,' said Kamath, sharing his perspective through the LinkedIn post.

Bharti Airtel sees more wireless additions via M2M vs Jio in last seven months: IIFL Securities
NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel has seen 70% of its wireless subscriber gains through the machine-to-machine (M2M) segment over the last seven months, compared to just 30% for its closest rival Reliance Jio , according to IIFL Securities . 'While Jio and Bharti have added similar wireless subs in the last seven months, the mix is quite different. 70% of Bharti's additions are M2M, probably due to its larger Enterprise presence vs 30% for Jio,' the brokerage firm said in a research note analysing the latest subscriber data put out by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India ( TRAI ). ETTelecom has reviewed a copy of the research note. The sector regulator started disclosing M2M connections, which include postpaid SIMs used in remote sensors, tracking devices, and others, from April 2024. These SIMs typically have an average revenue per user (ARPU) of less than ₹10. TRAI's subscriber report, collated and released every month, includes M2M SIM count for Jio and Vodafone Idea (Vi), but not for Airtel. The Sunil Mittal-led telco posts M2M subscribers under Airtel Business, its enterprise unit, in segmental reporting, the brokerage noted. As per IIFL, Jio's mobile subscriber base (including M2M) increased from 460 million in October 2024 to 475.1 million in May 2025. During the same period, Airtel grew by 414.5 million to 430.4 million, while Vi declined from 210.5 million to 204.4 million. According to IIFL's analysis, Airtel's M2M subscriber base increased from 29.1 million in October 2024 to 40.1 million in May 2025, followed by Vi, which saw an increase from 15 million to 16.8 million, while Jio's M2M users increased from 9 million to 13.5 million during the same period. State-controlled Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited 's ( BSNL ), on the other hand, grew from 3.1 million to 3.4 million. Industry-wide M2M subscribers rose from 56.1 million in October 2024 to nearly 74 million in May 2025. Airtel has a M2M market share of 54.31%, followed by Vi (22.74%), Jio (18.31%), and BSNL (4.63%), TRAI said. Furthermore, IIFL estimated that Jio's fixed wireless access (FWA) subscribers may have crossed the 7.5 million mark in June, surpassing US carrier T-Mobile, which had 6.85 million in the March 2025 quarter and has been adding 0.4 million per quarter. ICICI Securities also recently said that Jio is expected to have become the dominant FWA provider by subscribers globally, overtaking even T-Mobile, at the end of June. The Mukesh Ambani-driven telecom company's fibre and FWA subscriber base stood at 19.4 million, followed by Airtel (10.8 million). IIFL also found that fixed broadband accounted for a chunk of data traffic on Jio's fifth-generation (5G) network in the fiscal quarter that ended March 31, 2025. 'With 85% of Jio's FWA base on 5G (rest on UBR) and monthly per-capita data usage of 400GB, we estimate 5G FWA accounted for ~23% of 5G data traffic. With FWA ARPU per-capita data usage >10x of 5G mobile but ARPU being just 50% higher, it is not surprising that telcos are resorting to UBR for a part of their FWA rollout,' it added.

Northeast Asia sends the most jet fuel to Europe in nearly a year in June, ET Infra
Advt Advt Traders shipped the most jet fuel from Northeast Asia to Europe in almost a year in June, driven by lower freight rates, ample regional supply, and concerns over potential supply disruptions from the Middle East, according to ship tracking data and trade 350,000 metric tons (2.8 million barrels) of aviation fuel were shipped from South Korea and China to Europe in June, Kpler data showed. Trader estimates suggest total bookings for the month could reach up to 465,000 shipments are expected to slightly ease Asia's jet fuel oversupply and help stabilise prices in the near term, according to tankers were chartered in June by major players including Vitol, BP, Aramco Trading, Gunvor, and Unipec — the trading arm of Asia's largest refiner, Sinopec, Kpler data showed. Vitol and Saudi Aramco declined to comment, while Gunvor, Unipec, and BP did not immediately respond to fuel exports from Northeast Asia rose in June as refiners ramped up production following maintenance and as profit margins — or "product cracks" — improved, said Ivan Mathews, head of APAC analysis at weak spot demand from regional importers, traders diverted spot cargoes westward to capitalise on stronger margins and lower shipping costs, two Singapore-based trade sources said.'These flows were purely opportunistic, spurred by geopolitical tensions that sent Northwest Europe cracks surging, while freight rates on modern newbuild vessels remained attractive enough to justify the move,' said Zameer Yusof , senior lead research analyst at jet fuel prices in Northwest Europe remained $60 to $80 per ton higher than in Asia through most of June, LSEG data showed. Demand in Europe typically spikes during the summer travel season — Eurocontrol data showed June flight numbers were up 5.2 per cent year-on-year and 7.8 per cent over Middle East conflict also contributed to rising European jet fuel prices. Meanwhile, the cost to ship 90,000 tons of jet fuel on LR2 tankers fell to a one-month low of $40 to $45 per ton for bookings made before the Iran-Israel conflict began on June least four new LR2 tankers have been booked to carry jet fuel from East to West for June and July, according to two shipping sources. Shipbroking sources noted that maiden voyages on new vessels often come at lower freight rates, as owners seek to build tracking history and analysts don't expect the recent exports to lift Asian jet fuel prices significantly.'Asia remains chronically net long jet/kero by around 625 kbd in June and July, and Europe-bound flows won't make a meaningful dent in that surplus,' said Kpler's alone is targeting jet/kero exports exceeding 2 million tons per month, he added. In May, China exported 1.92 million tons of jet fuel — a 20 per cent increase year-on-year.
