Israeli settlers attack West Bank Christian village
Jeries Azar, a Taybeh resident and journalist for Palestine TV, told AFP his house and car were targeted in the pre-dawn assault.
"I looked outside and saw my car on fire, and they were throwing something at the vehicle and in the direction of the house," Azar said.
The Palestinian Authority issued a statement blaming "Israeli colonial settlers" for the attack on Taybeh.
Azar said he was terrified and put himself in the shoes of the Dawabsheh family, a couple who burned to death with their baby after settlers attacked their West Bank village of Duma in 2015.
"My greatest fear was for my two-year-old son. After we escaped, he cried nonstop for an hour", Azar said, adding that the Israeli army had surveyed the area after the attack.
Israeli police and the military said in a joint statement that a unit was dispatched to Taybeh and reported "two burned Palestinian vehicles and graffiti".
The statement said that no suspects were apprehended but that Israeli police have launched an investigation.
A photo shared by a Palestinian government agency on social media showed graffiti on a Taybeh wall that read: "Al-Mughayyir, you will regret", referring to a nearby village that was also attacked by settlers earlier this year.
The Palestinian Authority's foreign ministry condemned the attack, calling it "settler terrorism".
Germany's ambassador to Israel, Steffen Seibert, also condemned the action, writing on X: "These extremist settlers may claim that God gave them the land. But they are nothing but criminals abhorrent to any faith".
Taybeh and its surroundings have experienced several bouts of settler violence in recent months, including an arson attack at an ancient Byzantine church.
The village -- home to about 1,300 mostly Christian Palestinians, many holding US dual citizenship -- is known for its brewery, the oldest in the Palestinian territories.
Settlers have attacked neighbouring communities in recent months, resulting in three deaths, damage to Palestinian water wells and the displacement of at least one rural herding community.
Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967. The territory is home to about three million Palestinians and around 700,000 Israeli settlers, including about 200,000 in east Jerusalem.
Last week, 71 members of Israel's 120-seat parliament, or Knesset, passed a motion calling on the government to annex the West Bank.

'The Israeli government must be stopped. For our sakes, for our soldiers' sakes, for our hostages' sakes, for our sons and for the future generations of everybody in the Middle East.' Of the 251 hostages taken during the Hamas attack, 49 are still being held in Gaza, including 27 the Israeli military says are dead. After the meeting, the Forum released a statement saying Witkoff had given them a personal commitment that he and US President Donald Trump would work to return the remaining hostages. 'Horrifying acts' Hamas attempted to maintain pressure on the families, on Friday releasing a video of one of the hostages – 24-year-old Evyatar David – for the second time in two days, showing him looking emaciated in a tunnel. The video called for a ceasefire and warned that time was running out for the hostages. David's family said their son was the victim of a 'vile' propaganda campaign and accused Hamas of deliberately starving their son. 'The deliberate starvation of our son as part of a propaganda campaign is one of the most horrifying acts the world has seen. He is being starved purely to serve Hamas's propaganda,' the family said. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot on Saturday also denounced the video, and one released a day earlier by another Palestinian Islamist group, as 'despicable'. 'They must be freed, without conditions,' he posted on X. 'Hamas must be disarmed and excluded from ruling Gaza.' The United States, along with Egypt and Qatar, had been mediating ceasefire talks between Hamas and Israel that would allow the hostages to be released and humanitarian aid to flow more freely. But talks broke down last month and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government is under domestic pressure to come up with another way to secure the missing hostages, alive and dead. He is also facing international calls to open Gaza's borders to more food aid, after UN and humanitarian agencies warned that more than two million Palestinian civilians are facing starvation. 'Without rest' Israel's top general warned that there would be no respite in fighting if the hostages were not released. 'I estimate that in the coming days we will know whether we can reach an agreement for the release of our hostages,' armed forces chief of staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir said in a statement. Hamas refutes Steve Witkoff's statement on disarmament, vows to continue fighting IDF
Gaza, Aug 2 (UNI) Refuting a reported statement by the US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, that Hamas had decided to lay down its arms in Gaza, the organisation said it would not disarm 'as long as the occupation exists.' The terror group vowed to continue its violent struggle, claiming its fight to deliver Palestine its 'national rights' were realised and supported by international law, adding 'foremost among them… the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty and Jerusalem as its capital.' Hamas went on to slam Witkoff's visit to the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation run by Israel and the US, amid reports of starvation in the region, and that hundreds of Palestinian aid seekers had been killed near the agency's four distribution sites in the south and center of the enclave since they started operating in mid-May, reports Times of Israel. 'The American administration is a full partner in the crime of starvation and genocide,' said Hamas. It added that Witkoff's visit was 'nothing more than a pre-arranged theatrical performance' to provide Israel with 'political cover for managing starvation and continuing the systematic killing of children and unarmed civilians from our people.' Condemning Washington, the terror group called on the White House 'to bear its historical responsibility by lifting the cover from the crime of the century in Gaza and moving toward a ceasefire agreement that leads to ending the aggression.' Israel on the other hand has completely denied reports of deliberately starving anyone in Gaza or stopping international aid to the residents of the war-torn region, accusing Hamas of instead of seizing all aid and using Gazans as human shields and as tools for propagating its rhetoric. GHF, which seeks to circumvent Hamas in the distribution of aid, launched its operations in May, sidelining the longstanding UN-led humanitarian system just as Israel was beginning to ease a more than two-month aid blockade it had imposed on Gaza. However, there has been a drastic death toll near its aid centres, amid Hamas' constant attacks in the area and their skirmishes with the IDF, with Jerusalem also acknowledging the casualties.
