SFD Signs $30 Million Transport Deal, Launches School Project in Tajikistan

The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has signed a $30 million development loan agreement with Tajikistan to finance the Kulob city ring road project. The agreement was signed by SFD CEO Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad and Tajik Minister of Finance Qahhorzoda Faiziddin Sattor, with Saudi Ambassador to Tajikistan Walid bin Abdulrahman Al-Rashidan in attendance. This signing reflects more than two decades of strong development cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Tajikistan. The Kulob ring road project will include the construction of a roadway and two bridges, aiming to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and support international transport. Moreover, the route will serve as a key corridor linking Central Asia with China and Indian Ocean countries, facilitating safer and more efficient movement of goods and vehicles and driving regional economic and social development. In a parallel effort, Al-Marshad, along with Tajik Deputy Finance Minister Yusuf Majidi and Ambassador Al-Rashidan, laid the foundation stone for a new secondary school in the Danghara district. The school is part of the '$20 million Construction and Equipping of Secondary Schools – Phase V' initiative, which will build 11 schools with the capacity to serve over 7,000 students. Additionally, this project continues SFD's longstanding support of Tajikistan's education sector, following four previous phases that established 57 schools at a total cost of $75 million.
