Elon Musk Unveils Grok 4 and SuperGrok Heavy: xAI Challenges AI Giants with Frontier-Level Models
Announced during a livestream on Thursday, Musk highlighted Grok 4's superior academic capabilities. 'At times, it may lack common sense, and it has not yet invented new technologies or discovered new physics, but that is just a matter of time,' he noted. According to Musk, Grok 4 has outperformed PhD holders in standardized academic assessments across various domains.
A Closer Look at Grok 4 and Its Variants
The newly introduced Grok 4 is capable of not only generating human-like responses but also interpreting and analyzing images. It is designed as a direct competitor to frontier AI models, showcasing robust academic intelligence and benchmark scores.
The upgraded Grok 4 Heavy goes a step further by incorporating a multi-agent architecture, where a group of agents collaborates like a study team to produce the most accurate results. This feature significantly boosts its reasoning and problem-solving performance.
On Humanity's Last Exam, a difficult test spanning mathematics, humanities, and science, Grok 4 achieved a 25.4% score without tool assistance—surpassing Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro (21.6%) and OpenAI's o3 (21%). The Grok 4 Heavy model pushed the boundary even further, reaching an impressive 44.4%, outperforming Gemini 2.5 Pro's 26.9%.
SuperGrok Heavy: Premium Power
At $300 per month, the SuperGrok Heavy subscription model is aimed at professionals and early adopters seeking elite performance. This plan also promises early access to upcoming xAI innovations expected in the months ahead.
Turbulent Times for Musk's Empire
The launch comes amid some internal shake-ups across Musk's business ventures. Just a day earlier, Linda Yaccarino stepped down as CEO of X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, after nearly two years at the helm.
Adding to recent controversies, xAI faced backlash earlier this week over inappropriate outputs from Grok that included antisemitic content and praise for Adolf Hitler. The company issued a public response stating, 'We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts.'
Despite these challenges, the Grok 4 lineup marks a bold stride forward in the rapidly evolving AI space—Musk's answer to the ongoing race for intelligence supremacy.

Musk's X denies French allegations of fraudulent data extraction, algorithm abuse
Elon Musk 's social media platform X said on Monday it denied all allegations made by French authorities over manipulation of its algorithm and "fraudulent data extraction," adding that it has not acceded to the demands made in a French criminal investigation . "French authorities have requested access to X's recommendation algorithm and real-time data about all user posts on the platform in order for several "experts" to analyze the data and purportedly "uncover the truth" about the operation of the X platform," X said, adding that they denied the demands since they "have a legal right to do."

X slams French probe into algorithm manipulation as politically driven attack on free speech
X claimed it had been asked by French authorities to hand over access to its recommendation algorithm and 'data about all user posts on the platform' read more Elon Musk's social media platform X has pushed back against a French criminal investigation into alleged algorithmic manipulation, describing the probe as politically motivated and an attempt to curb free expression. In a statement issued on Monday (July 21), X claimed it had been asked by French authorities to hand over access to its recommendation algorithm and 'data about all user posts on the platform'. The platform said it had refused to comply with the request and had yet to receive clarity on the specific accusations being levelled against it. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Based on what we know so far, X believes that this investigation is distorting French law in order to serve a political agenda and, ultimately, restrict free speech,' the company said. The Paris prosecutor's office said on July 11 that it had opened the inquiry following reports submitted in January by a French MP and a senior official. It is investigating possible violations including 'tampering with the functioning of an automated data processing system' and the 'fraudulent extraction of data'. The prosecutor's office confirmed it had asked for access to X's algorithm in a letter dated July 19 but insisted it had not sought user data. X alleged that the inquiry was 'instigated' by Éric Bothorel, a lawmaker from President Emmanuel Macron's Renaissance party. Bothorel told the Financial Times that he had flagged several issues with the platform to prosecutors, including its alleged lack of content moderation and what he characterised as the 'biased promotion of rightwing content'. 'If the justice system is taking next steps . . . it means they think it is necessary,' Bothorel said. He cited Elon Musk's promotion of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in January as a cause for concern. The French probe runs parallel to broader scrutiny of X by the European Commission, which is examining whether the company has breached the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA), a sweeping regulation aimed at curbing online harms. Brussels has delayed a decision on that inquiry until September. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Last week, the Commission reportedly discussed potentially harmful or illegal responses generated by Grok, the AI chatbot developed by Musk's xAI, in conversations with X executives. A formal investigation remains under consideration. Bothorel criticised the EU's slow progress in enforcing DSA rules, saying: 'It's disheartening to see the European Union fail to take responsibility when it comes to enforcing — and especially applying— the sanctions regimes that were envisioned under the DSA and DMA.' 'If I chose to refer the matter to the justice system, it was also to provoke the commission a bit,' he added.

Tesla Q2 earnings: Elon Musk sleeps at office again as Wall Street awaits his big reveal on Robotaxis, AI & sales recovery
Ahead of Tesla's second-quarter earnings release on July 23, CEO Elon Musk has made it clear that his focus is back on the company. In a recent social media post on X, Musk stated, 'Back to working 7 days a week and sleeping in the office if my little kids are away.' This return to full-time leadership comes after months of political activity and online controversies. Tesla investors will be closely monitoring Musk's statements during the upcoming earnings call, especially as profit estimates and vehicle sales figures have seen a notable drop. Slowing sales, lower profit expectations Tesla reported sales of around 384,000 vehicles in Q2, a 13% decline compared to the same period last year. In total, the first half of the year saw 721,000 cars sold—significantly lower than the projected 970,000, according to FactSet. Analysts now expect Q2 earnings to be around 39 to 40 cents per share, a drop from last year's 50 cents. Back to working 7 days a week and sleeping in the office if my little kids are away This would mark the sixth earnings decline in the past eight quarters. Despite this, Tesla stock still trades at a high multiple, indicating continued belief in Musk's long-term innovation strategy. AI and robotaxis under investor lens Much of investor optimism hinges on Tesla's advancements in artificial intelligence. The company recently launched AI-driven robotaxis in Austin, Texas. Musk also hinted at regulatory discussions to launch similar services in California and is waiting for approval in Europe and China. Additionally, a promised affordable Tesla model is yet to be revealed. Investors expect updates on both the car and Tesla's AI-trained robots, which are expected to begin mass production by 2026. Musk's other projects also stirred interest. He recently launched a Tesla diner and charging station in Los Angeles. Musk stated, 'If our retro-futuristic diner turns out well... Tesla will establish these in major cities around the world.' Market reaction and political crosswinds Tesla stock was trading at around $331.43 on Monday morning. The stock has been volatile in 2025—up 38% over the past year but still down 18% year-to-date. Musk's earlier political involvement, including endorsing Donald Trump, initially sent the stock to a high of $488.54. However, sales and tariff concerns led to a dip below $215 in April. Investors are also waiting to hear Tesla's position on Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill Act,' which ends Biden-era EV credits and alters emissions-related financial incentives. Tesla has historically benefited from these credit Tesla earnings loom, all eyes are on Musk's next move — and whether robotaxis can drive future growth.
