Yograj Singh Blasts BCCI Over Banning Digvesh Rathi For Celebration Row: "Nonsense..."
Yograj Singh, father of former Indian cricket team star Yuvraj Singh, came out in support of Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi who was suspended by BCCI over his controversial celebration. Digvesh grabbed headlines with his impressive show in IPL 2025 but his 'notebook' celebration split the internet. While some praised him for his passionate show, there were some who were not happy and the BCCI decided to impose a fine on him three times. He was even suspended for a game after an on-field spat with Abhishek Sharma over his celebration. However, Yograj was not happy with how the cricket board handled the situation and he even went on to call the action 'nonsense'.
'Come on man, don't fine them. It's okay. You are still friends with the bowlers. Everybody is not the same. Emotions go. Forgive them. Obviously, at the end of the day, you're friends, if you say sorry, the matter is over. Have a big heart and don't get into these petty things. What is this nonsense going on, fining kids,' Yograj Singh said on InsideSport.
After winning the 2011 World Cup, India went through a tumultuous transition phase over the next two years, getting whitewashed 0-4 in away Test series against England and Australia. These defeats saw a number of Indian stalwarts getting dropped from the Indian team.
The selectors had even unanimously decided that MS Dhoni would be sacked as captain, with former India all-rounder Mohinder Amarnath one of the key figures of the selection committee then.
Reflecting on that episode, Yograj Singh, the father of former India star Yuvraj Singh, has brutally criticised Amarnath and co.
"You (BCCI selectors) just destroyed these boys for no reason. Boys like Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Kaif, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid. You just made them go after 2011," Yograj said, speaking to InsideSport.
"You just destroyed the team after the 2011 World Cup. The careers of 7 players were put into the gutter. That is why were struggling," Yograj added.

England eventually crossed the line with Morgan hitting a four off the third ball of the final over bowled by Yudhajit Guha. However, India recovered from that jolt with the other top and middle-order batters coming good. Culture & community spirit unite in UAE celebrations
Bhubaneswar: Rath Yatra in Dubai, organised by the Odisha Samaj UAE (OSUAE), was held for the 15th year with the participation of 500 Odias and other Indian families living across the Emirates. The event, held at Star International School, included chariot pulling, rituals performed as per Puri customs, and a rich display of Odia culture and community spirit. 'Chhera Pahanra' was performed by Amiya Mishra, president of OSUAE. Adding to the celebrations was an array of delicacies cooked by Odias living in UAE. The festivities were further enriched by vibrant cultural programmes, including Odissi dance performances, sankirtan and 'bhajan sandhya' by Indians. "The cultural and spiritual fusion reflects the true spirit of tolerance, unity, and diversity that the UAE proudly embodies," said Sudhashree Dash, a member of OSUAE. Prasad was cooked by Odia cooks based in Dubai. "This is more than just a festival for us. It is our emotional connection with Odisha. For 15 years now, we have been able to recreate a piece of Odisha in the heart of UAE," said Prakash Bahinipati, cultural secretary of OSUAE. The chariot was built of wood in Dubai and décor sourced from Odisha. Rath Yatra was also organised at Spring Dales School, Al Quoz, Dubai, on Sunday.

Global players' union: Weather issues cloud Club World Cup
Players are contacting the international players' union to voice growing concern over matches played when maximum temperature allowances are exceeded during the Club World Cup, FIFPRO said Monday. FIFA's guidelines mark 32 degrees as the recommended limit. Dr. Vincent Gouttebarge, the medical director for the union, said the factor is readily prevalent in midday games during the summertime, and is a concern again this week and into the 2026 World Cup. "Obviously we have a threshold where the game should be postponed and rescheduled," Gouttebarge said. "The answer is quite straightforward, of course. The threshold? It is a WBGT of 28 degrees.
