Yograj Singh Blasts BCCI Over Banning Digvesh Rathi For Celebration Row: "Nonsense..."
Yograj Singh, father of former Indian cricket team star Yuvraj Singh, came out in support of Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi who was suspended by BCCI over his controversial celebration. Digvesh grabbed headlines with his impressive show in IPL 2025 but his 'notebook' celebration split the internet. While some praised him for his passionate show, there were some who were not happy and the BCCI decided to impose a fine on him three times. He was even suspended for a game after an on-field spat with Abhishek Sharma over his celebration. However, Yograj was not happy with how the cricket board handled the situation and he even went on to call the action 'nonsense'.
'Come on man, don't fine them. It's okay. You are still friends with the bowlers. Everybody is not the same. Emotions go. Forgive them. Obviously, at the end of the day, you're friends, if you say sorry, the matter is over. Have a big heart and don't get into these petty things. What is this nonsense going on, fining kids,' Yograj Singh said on InsideSport.
After winning the 2011 World Cup, India went through a tumultuous transition phase over the next two years, getting whitewashed 0-4 in away Test series against England and Australia. These defeats saw a number of Indian stalwarts getting dropped from the Indian team.
The selectors had even unanimously decided that MS Dhoni would be sacked as captain, with former India all-rounder Mohinder Amarnath one of the key figures of the selection committee then.
Reflecting on that episode, Yograj Singh, the father of former India star Yuvraj Singh, has brutally criticised Amarnath and co.
"You (BCCI selectors) just destroyed these boys for no reason. Boys like Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Kaif, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid. You just made them go after 2011," Yograj said, speaking to InsideSport.
"You just destroyed the team after the 2011 World Cup. The careers of 7 players were put into the gutter. That is why were struggling," Yograj added.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Scores 45 As India U19 Lose To England U19, Series Level At 1-1
Riding on captain Thomas Rew's brilliant century, England scraped through with a narrow one-wicket win over India in the second Youth ODI to level the five-match series 1-1 in Northampton on Monday. India, who had won the first match by six wickets at Hove on June 27, posted 290 in 49 overs after being asked to bat. England then chased down the target with three balls to spare, reaching 291 for 9 in 49.3 overs. Medium pacer RS Ambrish took four wickets for 80 runs from his 10 overs to raise hopes of an Indian victory but the last English pair of Sebastian Morgan (20 not out) and Alex French (3 not out) survived the final two overs to give their side a win in a see-saw battle. The home side made a shaky start in their run chase with opener BJ Dawkins (7) back in the dressing room in the second over at team score of just seven. They slumped to 46 for 2 and then to 47 for 3 in the 12th over with Ambrish taking the wickets of Ben Mayes (27) and Isaac Mohammed (11) in quick succession. But Rew (131 off 89 balls) and Rocky Flintoff (39) resurrected the England innings with a 123-run stand for the fourth wicket before the latter got out off Kanishk Chouhan in the 33rd over. Rew, who hit 16 fours and six sixes in his masterly innings, fell in the 40th over off the bowling of Henil Patel and that led to a batting collapse as England were reduced to 254 for 8 by the 46th over. England needed 20 runs from three overs and 12 from two but they had just two wickets in hand. Alex Green (12) fell in the first ball of the penultimate over, the third victim for Ambrish, and England needed seven runs from the final over with the last pair at the crease. England eventually crossed the line with Morgan hitting a four off the third ball of the final over bowled by Yudhajit Guha. Earlier, asked to bat first, opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi (45), Vihaan Malhotra (49), Rahul Kumar (47), Kanishk Chouhan (45) and Abhigyan Kundu (32) made useful contribution to take India to 290 from 49 overs. This was after opener and captain Ayush Mhatre was dismissed for a duck off the first ball of the innings. However, India recovered from that jolt with the other top and middle-order batters coming good. Suryavanshi was among the runs for the second time as he had also made 48 in India's comprehensive win in the first match. For England, AM French was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/71 from his 10 overs while Jack Home (3/63) and Alex Green (3/50) were among the wickets. The home side conceded 32 extras, including 26 wides. Brief scores: India U-19: 290 all out in 49 overs (Vaibhav Suryavanshi 45, Vihaan Malhotra 49, Rahul Kumar 47, Kanishk Chouhan 45; AM French 4/71, Jack Home 3/63, Alex Green 3/50). England U-19: 291 for 9 in 49.3 overs (Thomas Rew 131, Rocky Flintoff 39; RS Ambrish 4/80).

Culture & community spirit unite in UAE celebrations
Bhubaneswar: Rath Yatra in Dubai, organised by the Odisha Samaj UAE (OSUAE), was held for the 15th year with the participation of 500 Odias and other Indian families living across the Emirates. The event, held at Star International School, included chariot pulling, rituals performed as per Puri customs, and a rich display of Odia culture and community spirit. 'Chhera Pahanra' was performed by Amiya Mishra, president of OSUAE. Adding to the celebrations was an array of delicacies cooked by Odias living in UAE. The festivities were further enriched by vibrant cultural programmes, including Odissi dance performances, sankirtan and 'bhajan sandhya' by Indians. "The cultural and spiritual fusion reflects the true spirit of tolerance, unity, and diversity that the UAE proudly embodies," said Sudhashree Dash, a member of OSUAE. Prasad was cooked by Odia cooks based in Dubai. "This is more than just a festival for us. It is our emotional connection with Odisha. For 15 years now, we have been able to recreate a piece of Odisha in the heart of UAE," said Prakash Bahinipati, cultural secretary of OSUAE. The chariot was built of wood in Dubai and décor sourced from Odisha. Rath Yatra was also organised at Spring Dales School, Al Quoz, Dubai, on Sunday.

Global players' union: Weather issues cloud Club World Cup
Players are contacting the international players' union to voice growing concern over matches played when maximum temperature allowances are exceeded during the Club World Cup, FIFPRO said Monday. HT Image The global players' union argued intense heat should have resulted in the postponement of matches between Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid and between Chelsea-Esperance because gametime temperatures rose above the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) of 28 degrees. FIFA's guidelines mark 32 degrees as the recommended limit. Dr. Vincent Gouttebarge, the medical director for the union, said the factor is readily prevalent in midday games during the summertime, and is a concern again this week and into the 2026 World Cup. "Obviously we have a threshold where the game should be postponed and rescheduled," Gouttebarge said. "The answer is quite straightforward, of course. The threshold? It is a WBGT of 28 degrees. According to our position, these games should have been postponed to a better place in the day and, if not available (to be played later), then rescheduled." PSG midfield Vitinha scored the second goal of the club's win in Pasadena, when temperatures at the Rose Bowl hit a sweltering 90 degrees (over 32 degrees Celsius). "We felt really good, even in these kinds of conditions. It is really hot," Vitinha said post-match. "It is hard to play in these conditions, but it was even more difficult for Atletico, who didn't have the ball." Thunderstorms and heavy rain have also impacted matches. Humidity and temperature combined for a "feels like" temperature over 100 last week in Nashville before an extended delay between Auckland City and Boca Juniors. Sprinklers on the field ran during one break in play to cool players on the pitch. Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca said weather delays in Charlotte on Saturday, when the match with Benfica was paused for almost two hours, were a "joke." "It's already seven, eight, nine games that they suspended. It's a joke, to be honest. It's not football. It's not for us. You cannot be inside," he said Saturday. "I can understand that for security reasons, you are to suspend the game. But if you suspend seven, eight games, that means it is probably not the right place to do this competition. "Guys, please, don't misunderstand me. I said it's a fantastic competition. It's a Club World Cup. It's top. We are happy to be in the last eight. We are happy to win all these kind of things. But something happens, six, seven games suspended, probably the one that they decide, they need a reason, because it's not normal to suspend a game. In a World Cup, how many games are suspended? Zero, probably. In Europe, how many games? Zero." --Field Level Media
