Shubman Gill believes captaining India to a Test series victory in England would be a bigger achievement than winning the Indian Premier League.Gill is set for his first assignment since succeeding Rohit Sharma as Test skipper as he leads a new-look side in the first of five matches against Ben Stokes' England at Headingley this week.Test cricket, for so long the pinnacle of the game, has to compete with T20 franchise leagues around the world and players have multiple commitments.India will be without the retired trio of Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin as they aim for a first Test series win in England since 2007.Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant are big-name players but Gill said less experienced members of the India squad were unburdened by past failures in England.Live streaming of the England vs India Tests 2025 will be available on the JioHotstar website and app. Fans in India can also catch the action live on TV, with the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy 2025 matches broadcast on Sony Sports 1, Sony Sports 1 HD, Sony Sports 3, Sony Sports 3 HD, Sony Sports 4, Sony Sports 4 HD, Sony Sports 5, and Sony Sports 5 HD channels.: Shubman Gill (captain), Rishabh Pant (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Leather hunt, some redemption, wasted chances: A look at Indias winless Test journey in Birmingham
Edgbaston [UK], June 29 (ANI): Team India will play their second Test of the five-match tour of England at Edgbaston in Birmingham, where they have yet to secure a win. The match at Birmingham will kick off on Wednesday. Team India trails by 0-1 in the series, failing to defend 371 runs against a Ben Duckett-charged England during the first Test at Leeds. The left-hander poured a heavy dosage of reverse sweeps on Team India's plans, completing the Three Lions' second-best run chase in Tests. Indian fans and players alike would not like to see their record at Edgbaston, where they are yet to win a match. Seven out of eight matches have been lost, while one has ended in a draw. In their previous match at Edgbaston back in July 2022, the rescheduled fifth Test of the 2021 series, India, under stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah, looked like a highly proud unit till the fourth innings. With centuries from Rishabh Pant (146) and Ravindra Jadeja (104) taking India to 416 from a shaky situation of 98/5 and pacers firing all cylinders, a defeat looked certain for England chasing 378 runs as they slipped to 109/3 despite a century partnership between openers Alex Lees and Zak Crawley. However, centuries from Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root left India searching for answers, hunting for red cherry in every corner of the ground. The hosts pulled off their highest-ever run-chase in Tests and showed the Indians what the hype of their 'Bazball' school of cricket under skipper Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum was all about. The series ended in a 2-2 draw. During the 2018 tour, the biggest story was that of a superstar making up for a major career slip-up in England during his initial years. Questioned about his ability against moving deliveries of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, Indian skipper Virat Kohli defended, survived edges and half-chances and drove to perfection, scoring his first Test ton in England, a blistering 149, a major chunk of which was made along with the tail end. With a loud roar and a kiss to his wedding ring, the 'King Kohli' gave it back in style. However, despite his lone warrior batting effort and the sheer excellence of his bowlers, particularly Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin, the team could not chase down 194, being bundled out for 162 despite Virat's second-innings fifty, which helped England take a 1-0 lead. During the 2011 horror tour, when India was far from their usual competitive selves, Alastair Cook's marathon 545-ball 294 outclassed, tired out, and depleted Indian bowling and batting morale. India conceded 710/7, the highest Test total at the venue and faced a crushing loss by an innings and 242 runs. India lost the series by this point. Sachin Tendulkar's classy 122 in 1996 during an eight-wicket loss and crushing losses by 132 runs in 1967 (during which India was skittled out for 92), innings & 78 runs in 1974 and innings & 83 runs in 1979 are some other memories fans will keep with themselves forever. The innings losses saw double tons coming from David Lloyd and David Gower (1974 and 1979, respectively), which rattled Indian bowlers.

‘Give Shubman Gill a fair chance… India are too much dependent on Jasprit Bumrah': Azharuddin tears into critics
Since India's defeat in the opening Test vs England in Leeds, new captain Shubman Gill has fallen victim to criticism from certain sections of fans and experts. India put in a dominant batting display, where Gill, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal got centuries, amd vice-captain Rishabh Pant smacked twin tons. Despite the centuries, fielding errors and a weak bowling attack saw England win the Test by five wickets. Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah in action during the first Test.(AFP/Reuters) Former India cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin rushed to Gill's defence, claiming that it was very early to talk about his captaincy and he still needs some time. 'This is his just first match as a captain, you just can't talk about captaincy. It's too early to talk about captaincy,' he said. 'We should give him a fair chance and he has just taken over. So, you should give him a lot of time and support. We cannot just complain and criticise players like that.' 'Too much dependent on Jasprit Bumrah' He also pointed out India's overreliance on Jasprit Bumrah and urged Gill to include Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI for the second Test. 'They are too much dependent on Bumrah. It's not easy because you need more experienced bowlers, and they should play Kuldeep Yadav,' he said. The second Test is scheduled to begin on July 2, in Birmingham. The defeat in the first Test saw Gill become the sixth Indian Test skipper to begin his tenure with a loss. Recently, former India player Sanjay Manjrekar also criticised Gill's captaincy approach and pointed out his defensive fielding tactics. He also slammed Gill's personality and leadership style. 'Whether they would have taken wickets or not, Kohli would have made it clear to the opposition that he's actively trying to get them out. Gill doesn't have that kind of personality or leadership style. However, perhaps being a bit less defensive and not pre-empting things would have been better,' he said.

IND vs ENG: 'It doesn't get bigger than this!' - AB de Villiers questions Jasprit Bumrah's Test workload plan
De Villiers stressed that unless Bumrah is nursing a serious injury, he must feature in the remaining matches. Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers has raised eyebrows over India's decision to reportedly restrict Jasprit Bumrah to just three Tests in the ongoing five-match series against England. Calling Test cricket the 'ultimate form of the game,' de Villiers expressed surprise and suggested India might be mismanaging their premier fast bowler. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Speaking on his YouTube channel, the 41-year-old Proteas legend made a strong case for Bumrah's full availability, comparing the situation to how South Africa handled the workload of Dale Steyn . India's Day 2 at the Nets in Edgbaston | IND vs ENG Test Series "He is probably the top bowler in the world in all formats right now," de Villiers said. "In my opinion, this Test series would've been the one to get him ready for all five matches. That's what we did with Dale - rest him in less important T20 and ODI series and have him fully ready for the big Test tours - Australia, England, India." Poll Should Jasprit Bumrah play in all five Tests against England? Yes, he should play all five No, he should be rested He questioned whether the decision was influenced by medical advice. "Maybe the surgeon told him he can't play all five. If that's the case, you've got to respect it. But if it's about workload, then I'm not sure they've gone about it the right way," he added. De Villiers stressed that unless Bumrah is nursing a serious injury, he must feature in the remaining matches. "It doesn't get bigger than a five-Test series against England - other than maybe the WTC final. If he's fit, he must play. If not, I understand the caution." Arshdeep vs Morkel: WWE at the Nets! | Team India's Lighter Moment in Birmingham In a cheeky aside, ABD suggested that India might be bluffing to surprise England. "Maybe it's part of the plan - say he'll miss some games and then play all five. Hopefully, that's the surprise with India 0-1 down." He also backed India's bench strength: "It's a big opportunity for someone like Arshdeep Singh or maybe Kuldeep Yadav to step up." Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story.
