Bangkok's award-winning Lee Place Wanton Mee lands in SG at Chinatown flagship
Wanton mee lovers, you're gonna wan-to read on. Lee Place Wanton Mee, home to award-winning Hong Kong-style noodles from Bangkok, opened its SG flagship store on 8 Jun at 68 Smith Street in Chinatown. The stall brings with it over two decades of heritage, flavour, and a whole lot of nostalgia.
Founded in Bangkok in 2002 by Mdm Lee, a 67-year-old Singaporean, this beloved wanton mee brand began out of her longing for authentic wanton mee. After moving to Thailand with her husband, Mdm Lee started recreating the comforting Hong Kong-style noodles of her childhood from her kitchen.
Word spread and soon her handmade egg noodles, juicy prawn dumplings and glistening char siew combo not only earned her a loyal following, but even the prestigious Shell Shuan Shim 'Green Bowl' award. Mdm Lee's brand is built solely on labour and love — no form of advertising necessary.
Following her husband's passing, Mdm Lee decided to return to her roots, bringing the Lee Place Wanton Mee legacy back to SG with her. Together with F&B veteran Max Loh, owner of Blanco Court Beef Noodles, she is determined to embark on a new chapter and continue the original flavours and tradition in the heart of Chinatown.
The SG outlet proudly sticks to its original roots, promising 'a timeless heritage of taste'. The menu features favourites like the signature Signature Noodles (Dry/Soup)(S$6.90) and the all-in-one Lee Place Superior Noodles (Dry/Soup)(S$11.90) that comes with a decadent mix of signature wantons, shrimp dumplings, crab dumplings, char siew and roast pork.
For my rice-loving-Asians, check out their range of Rice (S$6), Roast Pork Rice (S$8), and even Curry Beef with Rice (S$8.50). At the end of your meal, wash it down with a classic Thai Milk Tea (S$4) for a refreshing, creamy treat. Though some may find the prices here slightly steep, customers say it's worth the authenticity that shines through.
Whether you're a long-time fan or a curious foodie, I'd say it's worth checking out this soulful new stall in the heart of Chinatown — where tradition, resilience, and nostalgia are snuggled into a warm bowl of wanton mee.

Indian Roots, Foreign Labels: Without A Single Credit Line. And Crazy Profits
1. Dior Controversy: Used Indian embroidery, mirror work, and Mughal motifs in several collections without crediting artisans The 2023 Mumbai show featured Indian craftsmanship, but the press focus was entirely on Dior's global prestige, with little to no recognition of the local artisans behind the work. 2. Prada Controversy: Used brocade, sari-like draping, bindis, and Indian footwear silhouettes without citing origins The 2018 collection featured Banarasi-style jackets marketed as "futuristic brocade".And now in 2025, it has shamelessly gone ahead to replicate India's heritage "Kolhapuri Chappals" which have been handcrafted for years in Maharashtra and Karnataka, simply rebranding them as "leather sandals". After ample backlash from social media, they've finally admitted that they were "inspired" by Indian heritage. 3. Gucci Controversy: Frequently used turbans, paisleys, and embroidery styles with zero mention of their Indian heritage Example: 2018 runway featured a Sikh-style turban, sparking backlash and being called 'culturally insensitive.' 4. Isabel Marant Controversy: Used mirror work, traditional Banjara tribal embroidery, and called it 'boho chic' The designs of 2016 mirrored styles from Gujarat and Rajasthan without collaboration or attribution whatsoever. 5. Jean Paul Gaultier's 'Princes et Maharajas' featured turbaned looks, ornate jewelled crowns, embroidered bandh-gala jackets, lehenga-style skirts, jodhpuris, maang‑tikkas, and bindis directly evoking Indian royal and bridal aesthetics The Fall 2007 Couture segment was framed as a spectacle of exotic 'Maharajas,' presented via a generic Western lens of aristocratic drama, not as a respectful homage or collaboration with Indian artisans. 6. Tory Burch Controversy: The items manufactured in India and 'inspired' by Indian fashion lacked any cultural context, such as the spiritual symbolism or heritage Released multiple 'mirror-studded' pieces, maxi dresses, skirts, and tops, adorned with the traditional sheesha (mirror-work) embroidery that originates from Indian regions like Gujarat and argue calling it merely 'inspired' and omitting artisan recognition turns a sacred cultural tradition into a superficial trend, and that the high retail price (over $400) further disconnects the craft from its indigenous roots. Fans of This Iconic Fast Food Giant Are Pleading for Its International Summer Lineup to Come to the U.S. originally appeared on Parade. Here in the U.S., we're no strangers to spotting international menu items that never make it stateside. And when it comes to our favorite fast food chains, some of these wild global creations look—and sound—way too hard to resist. Most recently, we've learned about McDonald's Hello Kitty Swirl in Hong Kong, Costco Tokyo's combo pizza slice (they're just teasing us now) and Wendy's otherworldly Mango Sticky Rice Frosty. Each mouthwatering item stirred up plenty of online buzz—though there's no telling if we'll ever get a taste. Which brings us to a truly controversial post shared online by @snackbetch, who rounded up four of this summer's wildest fast food burgers—one of which won't be hitting U.S. menus, at least for now. 😋😋SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter🍳🍔 'The 2025 Summer Burger Lineup is here and it's wild,' @snackbetch wrote, breaking down the details of each burger's debut for eager four juicy burgers from four different brands in the lineup, fans were naturally frustrated to learn that one would be exclusive to the UK—despite swirling rumors of a U.S. release. The culprit? McDonald's Big Arch Burger: a massive double-stack with two quarter-pound beef patties, three slices of white cheddar, crispy and slivered onions, pickles, shredded lettuce and a tangy new 'Big Arch Sauce' (not to be confused with Mac sauce), all on a sesame–poppy seed bun. 'Neeeeed the Big Arch in the U.S.,' one fan pleaded. 'That Big Arch Burger is so damn good,' another added. Also included in the summer lineup: Sonic's Big Dill Smasher made with Grillo's Pickles (available now in the app, nationwide June 30), Burger King's Fiery Dragon Flame-Grilled Whopper (available now) and Wendy's bold Takis Fuego Chicken Sandwich (also available now).
