Strictly Come Dancing star lands huge TV role away from BBC show

Daily Mirror15-05-2025
Professional dancer Dianne Buswell has landed a brand new job for a very different audience away from Strictly Come Dancing following her BAFTA TV Awards win
Dianne Buswell has bagged a totally different role away from Strictly Come Dancing. The professional dancer, who picked up a BAFTA TV Award over the weekend, is set to embark on a new venture.
She headed to her native Australia for the project, that sees her win over a much younger audience. Dianne has teamed up with hit children's TV show Bluey for a brand new series.

The Aussie dancer will star in Bluey Dancealongs, which airs on the official Bluey YouTube channel, Bluey.tv and Bluey's social media. Dianne stepped into Bluey's world for the series as she choreographed and starred in five different dance videos.

It sees a beloved Bluey song taken to a new part of Bluey's World as fans and invited to take part in the immersive experience. Dianne will not star alone, as she has been joined by young fans of Bluey.
She said: "How cool that I got to go to Bluey's World in Australia to dance in Bluey's house with some incredibly talented kids dancing to some of Bluey's favourite tunes. I love the message that Bluey sends out, to not just kids but grownups too. I can't wait to see everybody trying the dance moves at home and joining in the party."
Jasmine Dawson, from SVP Digital, BBC Studios added: "We are thrilled to launch Bluey Dancealongs and bring brand-new entertaining content for fans to engage with on our digital channels.
"Partnering with the incredible Dianne Buswell to create these joyful, accessible dance routines perfectly captures the spirit of Bluey — fun and family – and we're looking forward to seeing fans everywhere get moving and join in the fun, no matter where they are."
The videos will be released each week from today and last from between one and three minutes. Songs including A Message from the Fairies, Bluey Theme Tune (Dance Remix), Lollipop Yum Yum Yum, Muffin Drive and the recently released Burger Dog will be featured.

It is not the first time Dianne has worked with Bluey, as the beloved children's TV character joined her on the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor last year.
As part of BBC Children in Need, Bluey headed to the Strictly ballroom alongside the professional dancers.

Over the weekend, Dianne collected a BAFTA TV Award for her and celebrity dance partner Chris McCausland's waltz to You'll Never Walk Alone as the most memorable moment in TV.
The winning couple's 'blackout' dance, which went viral on social media, saw Chris place his hands over Dianne's eyes as the room faded to black, mimicking his everyday experience.
Dianne gushed: 'In one minute and 30 seconds of a dance, I feel like this told such a story. A story of hope, determination, resilience and vulnerability.'
She added: 'This moment meant so much to the both of us, so I'm just so thrilled that we have this.'
Chris was not at the ceremony, but Dianne said: 'Chris did have something he wanted me to say, and that is 'after 22 years in comedy, he wins a Bafta for dancing'.'

Baywatch icon Pamela Anderson and Taken star Liam Neeson looked picture perfect at the London premiere of The Naked Gun as the Hollywood icons walked the red carpet Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson got close and cosy on the red carpet for the premiere of their new movie, The Naked Gun. The Baywatch star, 58, looked out of this world in a strapless purple gown with a flowing train as she joined Liam, 73, in London ahead of the film's release on August 1. ‌ She completed her outfit with dazzling jewellery and her usual glowing no-makeup look. Taken star Liam looked handsome in a grey suede suit, a black T-shirt, and black dress shoes. They looked comfortable as they held onto each other on the red carpet, with Pamela giving Liam a smooch on the cheek. ‌ ‌ Liam had his arm around her waist as she reached up to kiss him while putting her arm on his back for support. The two appeared to be in a world of their own as they posed for snaps and gazed at each other. Other stars at the premiere include Strictly Come Dancing's Nadiya Bychkova, Joe Blackman, The Only Way Is Essex's Junaid Ahmed and Michelle Heaton. The Naked Gun stars Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Busta Rhymes, Liza Koshy and Cody Rhodes were also in attendance. The Naked Gun was originally created by Jim Abrahams and brothers David and Jerry Zucker. The plot centres a passionate police detective enduring many comical mishaps. The 2025 instalment is directed by Akiva Schaffer and produced by Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins. ‌ Liam recently joked that filming the 'sex scenes' with Pamela was his favourite part of filming the latest instalment. He also commented on having an intimacy coordinator on set. "I'd never had one before. But she was in the background. There was no kind of, 'OK! Excuse me!'," he said. ‌ Pamela, who plays a nightclub singer who goes to Police Squad for help after her brother is murdered, said the intimacy coordinator knew when to walk away. She joked that the staff member stormed off as Liam claimed she was exasperated and said: "I can't take this! This is too hot for me. I'm going for coffee." ‌ Liam and Pamela had nothing but compliments for each other, with Liam previously telling People that he was "madly in love" with the former Playboy cover star. "She's just terrific to work with," he said. "I can't compliment her enough, I'll be honest with you. No huge ego. She just comes in to do the work. She's funny and so easy to work with. She's going to be terrific in the film." And last month, Pamela said: "Our chemistry was clear from the start. We have the utmost respect for one another. I invited him and his assistant over for romantic dinners with me and my assistant so our relationship stayed 'professionally romantic' during filming."

Carol Kirkwood shares devastating reason why she was reduced to tears on BBC Breakfast

BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood, who has also featured on The One Show and Strictly Come Dancing, opened up about a difficult process that left her needing to have a "good cry" Carol Kirkwood has revealed the heartbreaking reason behind having to have a "good cry" while at work. During a recent interview, the Scottish weather presenter spoke candidly about the challenging period she faced during her divorce from property developer Jimmy Kirkwood in 2008 following 18 years of marriage. ‌ Carol, who wed her second husband, police officer Steve Randall, in 2021, revealed how she was forced to maintain her "sunny" persona whilst on camera, despite the turmoil in her private life. ‌ The situation became so overwhelming that she needed to have a "good cry" when off-camera, though there appeared to be a silver lining to the ordeal that ultimately "helped". ‌ Carol, a published author who has also featured on The One Show and Strictly Come Dancing, explained that her career kept her "going", allowing her to compartmentalise her sorrow. Speaking to Yours magazine, she said: "I still had to be sunny Carol on screen. It was all so shocking to me. I'd come off air, go to the ladies, have a good cry and then reapply my eye make-up before stepping in front of the cameras again. ‌ "In a funny way, though, that helped with the healing process. I put my grief into a compartment, which I kept separate from my work, or I'd have ended up in a puddle of tears. Work kept me going." Carol has previously revealed that she feels like she's "punching" regarding Steve, telling PA that her partner was "very romantic and very generous" and a "lovely man". Initially becoming acquainted as friends, Carol explained how it was "nice" getting to know Steve and called him "kind". During a chat with The Times, she was questioned about his feelings regarding moving into her property. ‌ She revealed: "I offered to sell my home so we could buy a place together, but he's happy living here. He's a keeper. He's a very good cook and tidy as well, tidier than I am." Meanwhile, the 63-year-old recently revealed details about a traumatic episode involving her being knocked off her bicycle during the Covid pandemic, leading to a three-week absence from her BBC Breakfast duties. ‌ The incident necessitated a hospital visit and caused a "severe injury" to one of her knees. Additionally, Carol confessed that the frightening experience left her worried about cycling on public roads. She informed Saga magazine that it not only prevented her from cycling but also instilled a "fear of riding on roads." Carol then proceeded to explain how she has ventured out on her bicycle with her husband, though she doesn't "tend to cycle any more." Carol continued: "I've been back out on my bike with Steve but when a car overtakes, I get nervous and feel I'm going to fall off. So I don't tend to cycle any more, which is a shame because I loved it." Following the mishap, Carol informed her X (formerly Twitter) supporters that she was receiving treatment at a hospital in Slough. She also expressed gratitude to those who assisted her following her accident.

Oti Mabuse ‘delighted' as she receives Freedom of the City of London

The 34-year-old South African has been recognised for her 'significant achievements in contemporary dance and her charitable work'. She has had a successful dancing career, winning the South African Latin American championships eight times and is one of the most successful professionals to have appeared on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, having won the show two years in a row. To be following in the footsteps of legends of the arts and entertainment industry, including Sir Matthew Bourne, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Cameron Mackintosh, Giles Terera, and Strictly's very own Len Goodman, feels quite remarkable Mabuse, who attended a ceremony at Guildhall with family and friends on Wednesday, said: 'I am delighted to have received the Freedom of the City of London for my dance and charitable work, and I am very grateful to Chris Hayward and Keith Bottomley for nominating me. 'To be following in the footsteps of legends of the arts and entertainment industry, including Sir Matthew Bourne, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Cameron Mackintosh, Giles Terera, and Strictly's very own Len Goodman, feels quite remarkable.' Mr Hayward is the policy chairman of the City of London Corporation, while Mr Bottomley is the sheriff-elect of the City of London. Former Strictly head judge Goodman died in 2023 aged 78. Mabuse won Strictly in 2019 and 2020 and has also appeared on The Greatest Dancer as a dance captain and as a judge on ITV's Dancing on Ice. Mr Hayward said: 'Having won a clutch of dance titles during her career and a place in our hearts, mostly, down to her appearances on the hugely popular 'Strictly', I am sure that Oti's Freedom will be welcomed warmly by her many admirers. 'Away from the dance world, her work with Unicef to raise awareness of the support needed by premature babies and their mothers, is highly commendable, and I am very happy to join my colleague, Keith Bottomley, in nominating Oti for the Freedom.' Mr Bottomley said: 'As well as impressing us on the dance floor, Oti Mabuse's charitable work with women and young people in communities across London, and overseas with Unicef, deserves our admiration and respect. 'It has been a pleasure to nominate Oti to be admitted into the Freedom, and I am sure that she will have very happy memories of today for many years to come.' The tradition of the freedom of the city is believed to date back to 1237. Past recipients include comedian, actor and writer Sir Lenny Henry and Lady Mary Peters, who won an Olympic gold medal in the athletics pentathlon in 1972, as well as Sir Chris Hoy and his wife, Lady Sarra Hoy.
