Strictly Come Dancing star lands huge TV role away from BBC show

Daily Mirror15-05-2025
Professional dancer Dianne Buswell has landed a brand new job for a very different audience away from Strictly Come Dancing following her BAFTA TV Awards win
Dianne Buswell has bagged a totally different role away from Strictly Come Dancing. The professional dancer, who picked up a BAFTA TV Award over the weekend, is set to embark on a new venture.
She headed to her native Australia for the project, that sees her win over a much younger audience. Dianne has teamed up with hit children's TV show Bluey for a brand new series.

The Aussie dancer will star in Bluey Dancealongs, which airs on the official Bluey YouTube channel, Bluey.tv and Bluey's social media. Dianne stepped into Bluey's world for the series as she choreographed and starred in five different dance videos.

It sees a beloved Bluey song taken to a new part of Bluey's World as fans and invited to take part in the immersive experience. Dianne will not star alone, as she has been joined by young fans of Bluey.
She said: "How cool that I got to go to Bluey's World in Australia to dance in Bluey's house with some incredibly talented kids dancing to some of Bluey's favourite tunes. I love the message that Bluey sends out, to not just kids but grownups too. I can't wait to see everybody trying the dance moves at home and joining in the party."
Jasmine Dawson, from SVP Digital, BBC Studios added: "We are thrilled to launch Bluey Dancealongs and bring brand-new entertaining content for fans to engage with on our digital channels.
"Partnering with the incredible Dianne Buswell to create these joyful, accessible dance routines perfectly captures the spirit of Bluey — fun and family – and we're looking forward to seeing fans everywhere get moving and join in the fun, no matter where they are."
The videos will be released each week from today and last from between one and three minutes. Songs including A Message from the Fairies, Bluey Theme Tune (Dance Remix), Lollipop Yum Yum Yum, Muffin Drive and the recently released Burger Dog will be featured.

It is not the first time Dianne has worked with Bluey, as the beloved children's TV character joined her on the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor last year.
As part of BBC Children in Need, Bluey headed to the Strictly ballroom alongside the professional dancers.

Over the weekend, Dianne collected a BAFTA TV Award for her and celebrity dance partner Chris McCausland's waltz to You'll Never Walk Alone as the most memorable moment in TV.
The winning couple's 'blackout' dance, which went viral on social media, saw Chris place his hands over Dianne's eyes as the room faded to black, mimicking his everyday experience.
Dianne gushed: 'In one minute and 30 seconds of a dance, I feel like this told such a story. A story of hope, determination, resilience and vulnerability.'
She added: 'This moment meant so much to the both of us, so I'm just so thrilled that we have this.'
Chris was not at the ceremony, but Dianne said: 'Chris did have something he wanted me to say, and that is 'after 22 years in comedy, he wins a Bafta for dancing'.'

Strictly's Craig Revel Horwood makes key change as he fears being 'cancelled'

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has revealed his big fear of being cancelled after looking back at footage of himself talking to contestants on the hit BBC series Strictly Come Dancing legend Craig Revel Horwood is known for his blunt responses to contestants as they try to back the coveted Glitter Ball. But it appears his fear of being cancelled is making him change his ways. ‌ The once spiky judge, 60, has admitted he has had to "mellow" his straight talking ways as the years go by. He revealed his worry of being cancelled led to his decision. ‌ His latest comments come months after he took aim at the BBC contest's other judges, Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, and Motsi Mabuse and claiming he was the reason for the show's success. But now, Craig has claimed he is trying to make sure he always adds a positive onto any comment he makes towards celebrity contestants. ‌ Speaking to Mail Online, Craig confessed: "Back 21 years ago I could be more direct but now what I do is be honest and upfront with the contestants about their routine like I am with anything, I am honest, and with Strictly I am honest but then I will try tag a positive onto the end of it." "I generally do one point now where it's a negative and a point that's positive just to help them build and grow and give them more confidence. ‌ "As long as I am honest and not being harsh for effect and telling the truth about the dance then no one can really go against that." He added that he feels he would only be at risk of being cancelled if he was being untoward. He said any comments he makes aren't for personal gain and never will be. And he admitted last year that he had decided to tone down his comments. It comes after he looked back and thought "ooh, that's cutting" when he revisited past comments. ‌ The comments come as former professional dancer on the show, Orla Jordan, jibed the judge for having "lost his sparkle". However, Craig claims that isn't the case. Footage has shown how he was t the centre of an awkward row after criticising a Dancing with the Stars contestant live on air in the Aussie version of Strictly. He was met with backlash after labelling Osher Gunsberg's Tango a "right royal mess" in a recent episode. After hearing the comments, the former Bachelorette Australia host fired back: "Would you like to try going down that perspex ramp in those heels, sir? You are more than welcome to show me how to do it." ‌ And in Craig fashion, he responded: "That is not my job." Craig then continued to criticise, as he labelled the dance 'completely erratic' and accused the TV star of 'making mistakes' everywhere. Osher, who was partnered with professional dancer Sriani Argaet, wasn't impressed and replied: "But I need you to be doing it in a tango step while the person next to you is on one foot, kicking, and you're holding their momentum against you. After you." Craig quickly dismissed the suggestion as something they could do 'some other time'. And following the confrontation, the video went viral on social media. Fans were quick to call out the on-air 'melt down' as they took to social media.

Strictly Come Dancing star opens up on new career move six years in the making

Strictly Comes Dancing star Nicola Adams has revealed that she has been secretly taking acting lessons for the past six years and is set to make her debut next year She can already take pride in the fact that she is a two-time Olympic boxing champion and a star of Strictly Come Dancing. But now, Nicola Adams has lifted the lid on her new career move. ‌ The 42 year old former athlete has revealed that she has been taking acting lessons and is now set to make her acting debut in a film next year. Nicola is set to star in The Gun on Second Street alongside Poppy Delevigne and Bruce Willis' daughter Rumer. ‌ The film plot focuses on the escalating gun crime issue in America. Speaking about her new career, Nicola explained to The Sun: "I just want to work with people that are just as hungry as I am. I'm not one of those people that just show up and just expect everything to be fine." ‌ The former Strictly Come Dancing star who took the dancefloor by storm in 2020, added: "I put in the work, I put in the graft, just as I do as an athlete as well. I want to take it as far as I can in terms of how I grow as an actor. " Nicola told the publication that experiencing a vast array of roles and playing a variety of characters had allowed her to use what she has been taught over the years. ‌ The boxing champion has now undertaken a dark role for the upcoming film and she attributes her ability to delve into the personality of her character, which allows her to convincingly portray deep emotion. And when asked how she gets into character and show emotion, Nicola said that she tries to feel those emotions for herself and does not use things that make her feel sad to portray that emotion. ‌ Alongside her upcoming film, Nicola is also starring in a BBC children's show titled High Hoops, which is due for release in November. It seems that acting has been a life-long dream and now that she no longer competes in the boxing ring, Nicola is now free to pursue her dream. Explaining her new career, Nicola explained to the publication that she simply did not have time to think about acting while boxing. But she claimed that doing Strictly allowed her to try something new. ‌ In November of 2020, Nicola was forced to bow out of the BBC dancing show after her partner Katya Jones tested positive for Covid. At the time, the gold medalist said: "I'm absolutely devastated my Strictly journey has come to an end so soon. I had so much more to give and so many people to win this for! But I just want to say a huge thank you to Katya for being the best dance partner anyone could ask for." She added: "I'm gutted to be out of the competition but in these unprecedented times and as frustrating as it is, the Covid measures in place are to keep everyone safe, and I'm doing what I can to help." And you can certainly see why Nicola was left devastated as she had high hopes of winning the coveted glitterball. On the back of the announcement of her joining the 18th series of the show, she told the broadcaster in an interview: " I'm super competitive, so I'll definitely be putting 110% into my training, into performing, because I do want to win. Whether I'll be good enough to win is a completely different question!'

Strictly star Anton Du Beke opens up on wife's 'cruel' diagnosis

Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke has shed light on his wife's 'cruel and inexplicable' diagnosis. The ballroom dancer and Strictly judge, 59, has been with the dancing reality competition right from the very beginning, starting as part of the pro lineup. After the departure of Bruno Tonioli in 2022, Anton stepped up to become a replacement judge, joining Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Shirley Ballas. And now, having taken his place on the judging panel three years ago, Anton has opened up about his wife's devastating battle with endometriosis and how it affected their lives as parents. The beloved BBC personality married marketing executive Hannah Summers in 2017, after first meeting at Wentworth Golf Club in Surrey in 2012. They welcomed twins George and Henrietta after their wedding, following a successful bout of IVF treatment. Yet, speaking on Giovanna Fletcher's Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast, Anton shared Hannah's fears about being able to have a baby due to her crippling endometriosis. The condition is described as the process 'where cells similar to those in the lining of the womb (uterus) grow in other parts of the body'. Anton said: 'I knew I wanted to be with her. I saw her with her nephews. She's so kind and so caring; I just couldn't understand the universe.' 'Whoever is upstairs, if anyone's upstairs, looking down and going, 'You are the most perfect person to have children, but I'm not going to let you have any children because I'm going to give you this'. 'And I'm going to say, 'You're going to have this endometriosis, and you're going to suffer with this all of your life, chronically, and I'm not going to let you have any children'. 'I thought that was peculiar, cruel, and inexplicable and unforgivable. And if ever I go up to somewhere and meet this person, I would say, 'I think you're not OK with decisions like this; this doesn't make any sense to me'.' Anton went on to discuss how health services need to educate people more about endometriosis and highlighted how there should be increased government funding for women's health services. 'We went through the process of IVF, well, for crying out loud. You girls are extraordinary,' he said. 'As much as I want to get involved, all I can do is hold your hand. It makes me emotional every time I talk about it. The injections, the stress. I have anxiety and stress, but it's not my body. 'She has these injections and the bruises in the bum, in the thigh, in the stomach. And you're trying to help, but what can you do? Whatever you want, tell me and I'll do it, but that's all you have, and it's horrendous as a man to watch it. More Trending 'You feel so inadequate, and you want to do so much more, but I can't do anything. And that's why you girls are so extraordinary; you're extraordinary that you do all this stuff.' Anton's comments came after he revealed his 'best Strictly memory ever' with Bruce Forsyth. Speaking about Sir Bruce, Anton has hailed him as a 'hero', saying that finally getting to meet one of his TV idols was everything he could have wished for. He told The Telegraph: '[My favourite celebrity encounter] has always been Sir Bruce Forsyth. Meeting Sir Bruce. He's my hero, to be honest with you. He was such a brilliant entertainer, and he was everything I wished and wanted him to be. View More » 'They say never meet your heroes, but that has never been further from the truth for me. He was absolutely incredible. Generous, kind, funny, helpful… Just the most incredible man, really.' Got a story?
