Rusk police chief placed on leave amid active investigation
In September 2024, Josh Marrs took action after a teacher at Spring Hill ISD became unresponsive during class. After being alerted by the school's nurse, Marrs quickly arrived in the classroom and began chest compressions and guided the team in using the AED prior to EMS arriving.
According to the police department, the teacher was stabilized and transported to the hospital. Marrs was credited by the school nurse with saving the teacher's life and believes she would not have been able to manage the situation without his support.
Due to Marrs heroic actions, he was bestowed the Lifesaving Award by the police department on Thursday afternoon.

Canadian tourist severely injured after shark bite at Florida beach, officials say
A Canadian tourist was seriously injured and hospitalized in south Florida after a shark attack, according to officials. The man, who is in his 40s, was at a beach in Hollywood, Florida, 21 miles north of Miami, when the shark attack occurred July 22 at 2:50 p.m. local time, Chai Kauffman, the Hollywood Fire Rescue and Beach Safety public information officer told USA TODAY. Emergency officials responded to the scene, where they found the man with "severe lacerations to the upper arm area," Kauffman said. They were able to apply a tourniquet and take the victim to a hospital where he underwent surgery. The victim declined to speak to the press, but he is in stable condition, according to Kauffman. "Right after that, there was a big splash, and he noticed that he was injured," Kauffman, who retold the story on the victim's behalf, said. The victim then walked to the shore, sat on the sand, and nearby beach goers rendered aid to him with towels until EMS arrived. At the hospital, it was confirmed that a shark bite caused his injury, Kauffman said. It investigated a total of 88 alleged shark attacks. "The total number of unprovoked shark bites worldwide remains extremely low," the museum stated on its website. "Fatalities saw a decrease over the past year." Man, 39, dead after fatal collision involving a pedestrian on Highway 748
Edson RCMP are investigating after a fatal collision left a 39-year-old man dead. According to a Monday press release, the collision occurred between a pickup truck and a pedestrian on Highway 748. EMS attended the 39-year-old man, identified as a Yellowhead County resident, but was declared dead on scene. The matter is currently under investigation. RCMP said the highway will be closed between Township Road 540 and Township Road 542. An update will be sent once the highway reopens. Scooter driver in critical condition after early morning crash on Bates Street
The driver of a scooter was taken to the hospital after a crash that happened early on Sunday morning. According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, around 5:45 a.m., police, EMS, and fire units were called to a crash on Bates Street and 2nd Avenue. Once they arrived on the scene, they found a man who had been riding a scooter down Bates Street failed to stop at a red light, and hit the side of an SUV traveling down 2nd Avenue. Medics took him to the hospital in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the SUV remained on the scene and spoke with police.
