Govt. working to turn A.P. into knowledge hub, says Revenue Minister

The Hindu09-06-2025
Minister for Revenue Angani Satya Prasad on Monday said that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Minister for Education Nara Lokesh are working together to turn the State into a knowledge hub.
The Minister was presenting 'Shining Stars Awards' to meritorious students at Mahati Auditorium in Tirupati on Monday (June 9).
Speaking on the occasion, he said, 'As part of the government's goal to make the State a knowledge hub, we are giving 'Shining Star Awards' to recognise talent and encourage meritorious students who have topped in SSC and intermediate examinations. The government is working to bring changes in the curriculum from kindergarten to post-graduation (KG to PG).'
The Minister said that Mr. Lokesh is putting the education system back on track. Mid-day meal scheme is being introduced for intermediate students, model schools are being set up across the State, infrastructure is being developed in educational institutions, he said while adding that priority is being given to skill development and skill census is being conducted for the first time in the country.
Mr. Prasad asked all the students to use the incentives being provided by the government and rise to high positions. Alleging that the previous government had destroyed the education system in the State, he said, 'A.P. had been ranked third place in the education sector during the regime of TDP, but it came down to 19th place during the YSRCP rule due to destructive policies.'
'The previous government has bankrupted the State in all sectors. Six lakh people attended the beach festival held in Machilipatnam on Sunday. Flamingo Festival and no other such events were conducted during the YSRCP regime. Due to the blow of the previous government, not only the industries, birds and festivals went away from the State,' the Minister alleged.

Vijayawada: Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to take swift action to restore and revitalize the AP Fiber Net project. He charged that the previous government had completely derailed the AP Fiber Net project, a visionary initiative launched between 2014 and 2019. Reviewing the progress of AP Fibernet activities here on Monday, the chief minister asked the officials to assess the challenges, financial constraints, necessary corrective steps, and new policy directions. He said that the system, designed to benefit the public, students, and government departments, was exploited for political purposes by the previous govt. He pointed out that while there were 8.70 lakh connections before 2019, was dropped to 4.50 lakh during the YSRCP regime. "We managed the organization effectively with just 130 employees and provided over 8 lakh connections. But the YSRCP government created unauthorized posts to accommodate its party workers, expanding the workforce from 130 to 1,350 and misusing public funds. This was a new form of corruption where party affiliates were placed in government roles and used for political work. The fiber network was no exception. Unemployed SSC teachers launch protest march 'Nabanno Abhiyan' towards Bengal Secretariat

Howrah (West Bengal) [India], July 14 (ANI): Senior Secondary Commission (SSC) teachers who lost their jobs after the Calcutta High Court decisison in 2024, launched a protest march 'Nabanno Abhiyan' in Howrah towards the Bengal Secretariat under the banner of 'Jogya Shikshak Shikshika Adhikar Mancha'. They lost their jobs following a Supreme Court judgment which held that the whole appointment process was tainted. The teachers who lost their jobs staged several protest against the Mamata Banerjee's government demanding justice. Calcutta High Court in April, 2024 declared all appointments null and void in the selection of candidates in West Bengal government-sponsored and aided secondary and higher secondary schools through a 2016 recruitment process. The court further ordered that those who were recruited illegally will have to return their salary. All appointments by the SSC in the categories of teachers of classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 and group-C and D staffers through the State Level Selection Test-2016 (SLST) where irregularities were found have also been declared null and void. A bench of Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar found that the West Bengal SSC's selection process was based on large-scale manipulations and fraud. 'In our opinion, this is a case wherein the entire selection process has been vitiated and tainted beyond resolution. Manipulations and frauds on a large scale, coupled with the attempted cover-up, have dented the selection process beyond repair and partial redemption. The credibility and legitimacy of the selection are denuded,' the apex court bench stated in its judgement. The apex court found no reason to interfere with the High Court's direction that the services of 'tainted' candidates must be terminated and that they should be required to refund any salaries/payments received. 'Since their appointments were the result of fraud, this amounts to cheating. Therefore, we see no justification to alter this direction', the bench added. (ANI)

Naidu orders the revival of FiberNet project

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed the officials to revive the AP FiberNet project, which according to him was rendered defunct by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). Addressing a review meeting on AP FiberNet at the Secretariat on Monday, Mr. Naidu pointed out that while there were 8.70 lakh connections in 2019, the number fell to 4.50 lakh during the YSRCP regime. He claimed that the TDP government had effectively managed the AP FiberNet with just 130 employees and provided over 8 lakh connections. The YSRCP government created unauthorised posts in the State FiberNet Limited to accommodate its party workers, which resulted in the workforce increasing steeply to 1,350 and misuse of public funds. Mr. Naidu ordered that a thorough investigation should be done into those appointments and steps taken to rectify the past mistakes. He told the officials to increase the present 4,53,525 connections to at least 8 to 10 lakh. Integration with BharatNet The Chief Minister approved the integration of AP FiberNet with BharatNet (the amended BharatNet programme), under which the Central government would provide ₹1,900 crore to AP FiberNet from 2025 to 2035. He gave the nod for transition of fiber networks in 1,692 gram panchayats (GPs) across Chittoor and Visakhapatnam districts from linear to ring architecture, and connecting an additional 480 new GPs using the ring model. Mr. Naidu also proposed the creation of a Special Purpose Vehicle jointly managed by the Central and State governments to oversee the FiberNet projects. Further, the Chief Minister emphasised the need to reintroduce services like virtual classrooms and strengthen the fiber network in rural and underserved areas and resolving pending issues with the local cable operators.
