Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has reached Shanghai to represent Pakistan at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), a major global forum focused on the future of AI and digital innovation.
Khawaja is leading Pakistan's official delegation at the conference, where she is expected to articulate the country's digital policy priorities and share its growing interest in emerging technologies. Her participation reflects Pakistan's broader ambition to position itself as an active player in the global AI arena.
According to an official statement released on Friday, the ITT minister will present Pakistan's digital transformation roadmap, which aims to integrate advanced technologies like AI into key sectors to improve economic performance and public services.
Her presence at WAIC is expected to raise Pakistan's profile on the international tech stage and promote opportunities for cross-border collaboration. The conference brings together government officials, industry leaders, and tech experts from around the world to discuss AI-driven development.
Prior to her departure, the minister held a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong at the IT Ministry. The two officials reviewed ongoing collaboration in the digital sector and reaffirmed their countries' commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in emerging technologies.
Key areas discussed included smart city projects, AI initiatives, and broader technical integration. Khawaja outlined Pakistan's vision for a digitally empowered society, driven by innovation, while Ambassador Jiang assured China's continued support for Pakistan's digital growth through experience-sharing and targeted cooperation.
The meeting also explored future joint ventures and knowledge-sharing opportunities in the digital economy, especially in capacity-building, to support inclusive development and strengthen digital infrastructure.
Both sides stressed the importance of using digital technology as a tool for equitable growth, and pledged to deepen collaboration.

Monday's meeting comes after US President Donald Trump intervened, making a late-night weekend call to both Southeast Asian leaders, who he said agreed to 'quickly work out' a truce. Anwar, whose country currently chairs the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), is mediating, while US State Department officials and a Chinese delegation were also present. Ahead of the talks, Thailand and Cambodia traded fresh fire and accusations. Phumtham said Bangkok did not believe Phnom Penh 'is acting in good faith.' Meanwhile, Cambodia's defence ministry spokeswoman Maly Socheata said Monday was 'the fifth day that Thailand has invaded Cambodia's territory with heavy weapons and with the deployment of a lot of troops'.

CCL Holding submits public intention to acquire over 26% stake in Mitchells Fruit Farms
CCL Holding (Pvt.) Limited has submitted a public announcement of intention (PAI) to acquire up to 26.26% of Mitchell's Fruit Farms Limited (MFFL), one of Pakistan's oldest listed FMCG companies. Arif Habib Limited, Manager to the Offer, disclosed the development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday. As per the public offer, eyes to purchase 6,007,632 ordinary shares of Mitchell's at a price of Rs232.75. The PAI follows CCL Holding's earlier acquisition of a 47.48% stake in MFFL. This includes 40.63% acquired from Mitchell's sponsors through a Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) dated May 14, 2025, at Rs180 per share, and an additional 6.85% purchased on July 23, 2025, from institutional and family shareholders, including the Babar Ali Foundation—founded by the company's Chairman, Syed Babar Ali—and IGI Investments (Private) Limited, via a negotiated deal at the higher rate of Rs232.75 per share. With this offer, CCL Holding aims to increase its total shareholding in Mitchell's to over 73%. CCL Holding is a holding company of a wholly-owned subsidiary, CCL Pharmaceuticals (Pvt) Limited, which is principally engaged in the manufacturing and marketing of branded generic pharmaceuticals and consumer health products. Meanwhile, Mitchell's Fruit Farms Limited, a Pakistani manufacturer of farm and confectionery products, has a history that dates back to 1933. After Independence, the company's name was changed from Indian Mildura Fruit Farms to Mitchells Fruit Farms Limited. The company went public in 1993 and was listed on the stock exchange in 1996. The principal activity of the company is the manufacturing and sales of various farm and confectionary products, including beverages, ketchups and sauces, preserves, ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat food range, etc.

Alibaba to launch AI glasses in bid to rival Meta
Chinese tech conglomerate Alibaba has announced its entry into the wearable technology market with the upcoming launch of its first smart glasses, powered by the company's in-house artificial intelligence platforms. Named the Quark AI Glasses, the device is set to debut in China by the end of 2025 and will be backed by Alibaba's Qwen large language model and its intelligent assistant, Quark. The move marks Alibaba's first major step into smart eyewear, placing it in direct competition with Meta - whose Ray-Ban-branded smart glasses have led developments in the sector - as well as domestic rival Xiaomi, which introduced its own AI glasses earlier this year.
