Diddy faces violence in notorious jail awaiting sentence
Combs, 55, has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre since his September 2024 arrest.
The facility, which has also held convicted sex traffickers like British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell and rhythm and blues singer R Kelly, is a far cry from the luxurious Los Angeles and Miami mansions Combs called home until last year.
After the verdict was read on Wednesday, Combs' lawyers asked US District Judge Arun Subramanian to release him on $US1 million ($A1.5 million) bond ahead of his sentencing, expected to take place by October.
'I understand that you don't, that Mr Combs does not want to go back to the MDC,' the judge said. Combs shook his head.
His hopes of returning to one of those homes and the embrace of his family after being cleared of the more serious charges were soon dashed.
The judge denied Combs' request for bail, citing evidence of his violent behaviour presented during the trial.
In recent years, MDC has been plagued by persistent staffing shortages, power outages and maggots in inmates' food.
Two weeks after Combs' arrest, prosecutors announced criminal charges against nine MDC inmates for crimes including assault, attempted murder and murder at the facility in the months before Combs arrived.
In January of last year, a federal judge in Manhattan declined to order a man charged with drug crimes to be detained pending trial at the MDC, calling the conditions there an 'ongoing tragedy'.
Last August, another judge said he would convert an older defendant's nine-month jail term to home incarceration if he were sent to MDC, citing the jail's 'dangerous, barbaric conditions'.
The US Bureau of Prisons, which operates MDC, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The bureau has said it takes its duty to protect inmates seriously.
During the eight-week trial, US Marshals transported Combs to and from the courthouse in Lower Manhattan each day from the facility in Brooklyn's Sunset Park neighbourhood, which has also housed former cryptocurrency entrepreneur Sam Bankman-Fried and Luigi Mangione, accused of killing a health insurance executive.
Bankman-Fried has since been moved to a low-security prison in California and is appealing his fraud conviction and 25-year sentence. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.
A jury found Combs not guilty on Wednesday on sex trafficking and racketeering charges, sparing him a potential life sentence, but convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution that could land him in prison for several years. He had pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Combs' defence lawyer Marc Agnifilo said in court on Wednesday that Combs had been housed in 'a very difficult part of the MDC' where there have been fights.
His lawyer Alexandra Shapiro said in a November 2024 court filing that frequent lockdowns at the facility had impaired Combs' ability to prepare for trial.
On Wednesday, Combs' lawyers praised MDC staff, who they said had facilitated their access to him during the trial.
'Despite the terrible conditions at the MDC, I want to thank the good people who work there,' defence lawyer Teny Geragos told reporters after the verdict.

PD Bert of Cleveland Police dies after sustaining serious injuries in crash in northern England
A police dog who took part in the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II has been killed after a car crash in northeast England. PD Bert, a springer spaniel that worked for Cleveland Police in the northeast, was one of two dogs in a canine support vehicle when it collided with a BMW in Hartlepool on Thursday evening, local time. Both animals were taken to a local vet but due to the severity of PD Bert's injuries, he was put to sleep. According to Sky News UK, PD Bert had been on the force for 3 ½ years, and in 2022 had been deployed to London to assist in the funeral procession of the late Queen. At the time, the British National Police Chief's council said it was the largest ever ceremonial police operation in British history. He also assisted in a search which recovered £250,000 ($514,600). His handler suffered minor injuries, whilst the other dog was unharmed. Police allege the 33-year-old man who is suspected of being the BMW driver was drink driving. He will appear before Teeside Magistrates Court in August.

Astronomer chief Andy Byron faces probe by company after video with alleged mistress at Coldplay concert goes viral
An American chief executive who was busted with his alleged mistress appearing all-loved up at a Coldplay concert is being investigated by his company. Astronomer chief Andy Byron had his arms wrapped around the chest of fellow colleague Kristin Cabot at the British band's tour in Boston, Massachusetts, this week. They quickly separated, with Mr Byron seen ducking away while Ms Cabot covered her face with her hands when they were shown on the big screens of the stadium. Coldplay singer Chris Martin joked to the crowd that the couple were "either having an affair or just very shy" as thousands of other concert-goers laughed and cheered. The company said on LinkedIn that Mr Byron is under formal investigation over his alleged cheating scandal involving Astronomer's chief human resources officer. "Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability," it said. "The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly." It stressed no other colleagues were seen in the video and that Mr Byron has not released any formal statement, saying reports the chief executive had are "incorrect". The alleged tryst was filmed by Coldplay fan Grace Springer and shared to TikTok where it has been seen close to 70 million times, with many news stories already written. Mr Byron's identity was quickly outed in the comments section. Ms Springer told The Sun her intention was to not expose anyone and only posted the shocking moment online because she captured an "interesting reaction". 'A part of me feels bad for turning these people's lives upside down, but, play stupid games… win stupid prizes," she said, in a swipe at the couple. 'I hope their partners can heal from this and get a second chance at the happiness they deserve with their future still in front of them.' A former employee of Astronomer has also since come out to The New York Post, accusing Mr Byron of being a "toxic" boss who was aggressive and obsessed with sales. 'The text groups and chains of former employees are like… everybody's laughing their ass off and enjoying the hell out of what happened and him getting exposed,' they said. According to reports, Mr Byron is still married while Ms Cabot divorced in 2022. Mr Byron joined Astronomer as the CEO in mid July of 2023, according to his LinkedIn page, which has been taken down since his name made global headlines. Astronomer is a company that "empowers data teams to bring mission-critical software, analytics and AI (artificial intelligence) to life," its website states.
