A family caught running a business selling "cannabis edibles" on social media have been ordered to pay back just a fraction of their ill-gotten gains. Father and daughter John and Chay Miles along with Chay Miles' partner Kyle Gadsby were caught after a package containing a brown liquid which smelt heavily of cannabis was intercepted in the post.
The discovery of the Pembrokeshire-bound package led to a raid which uncovered more than 11kg cannabis-infused sweets and another 14kg ready to be adulterated. Officers also found cannabis in liquid form.
All three defendants, of Primrose Avenue, Haverfordwest, denied any knowledge of the cannabis edibles operation with Chay Miles claiming she used the cannabis distillate to "marinade the chicken". When a police officer said to Gadsby "You have a sweet tooth in this house" the defendant responded that the sweets were bought in bulk as it would be cheaper for Chay's children than to buy them in the shops. Mobile phones seized during the raid showed Chay Miles was running the social media accounts for the drug-dealing operation on Instagram and Snapchat, and also that she had screenshots showing positive reviews from customers. Notes and images relating to cannabis edibles were also found on Gadsby's phone. John Miles was involved in the preparatory stages of the operation and helped to drum up business in the early stages.

In November last year John Miles, 51, was sentenced to three years prison, while Chay Miles, 28, and 19-year-old Kyle Gadsby were each sentenced to 27 months in prison after all three had pleading guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to supply and being concerned in the supply of cannabis. Gadsby's sentence also covered offences including possession of criminal property, dangerous driving, and possession of a bladed article which were committed in Northampton prior to his move to Wales to be with his partner.
When the case returned to Swansea Crown Court for a proceeds of crime hearing the court was told Chay Miles had benefited from her criminal conduct to the tune of £72,779 but financial investigators had only been able to identify £260 in available funds which was the value of a vehicle which had already been sold. The court heard John Miles had benefited to the tune of £44,205 and has £1,492 available - again in the form of vehicles - while Gadsby had benefited in the sum of £21,522 and has £1,941 in assets.
The court made confiscation orders in the available sums in respect of all three defendants

Driver who plowed into L.A. crowd leaving 30 injured, 7 critically, is shot after being attacked by bystanders
A man was dragged from his car by enraged bystanders and shot after he plowed a vehicle into a crowd in Los Angeles, leaving seven people critically injured and at least 23 others hurt outside a nightclub early Saturday morning, police said. Cameras in the area are still being canvassed, but the incident appears to have been intentional, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Two law enforcement sources familiar with the situation said the suspect was kicked out of the venue for being intoxicated and disruptive. Police said they arrested the driver, Fernando Ramirez, 29, who was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently hospitalized and has not been booked into jail, the LAPD said. His condition was not immediately known. Patrol officers with the LAPD responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon in East Hollywood near the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard around 2 a.m. "When officers arrived, they found the driver being assaulted by bystanders and determined he had sustained a gunshot wound," the LAPD said in an update. LAPD Sgt. Travis Ward said the driver was shot after the collision, transported to the hospital and taken into surgery. For this reason, he said, the LAPD was unable to determine whether the driver was intoxicated. The LAPD described the person who shot the driver as "a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 180 pounds, bald, wearing a blue jersey, and possibly armed with a silver revolver." The man fled the scene on foot and was last seen going westbound from Vermont Avenue, the LAPD said. Police are asking anyone with information on the shooter to get in touch. Officials did not share the name of the nightclub where the incident occurred, but The Vermont Hollywood released a statement sharing that it happened outside of the venue following an event. "We are working closely with law enforcement to ensure the person responsible for this horrific act is held fully accountable," the statement read. The Vermont Hollywood describes itself as a "state of the art, live performance and special event venue" on its official Instagram profile. Photos and videos in the account show a range of events, from concerts and wrestling matches to a 2024 Grammys after-party hosted by SZA. Pictures from the scene showed a bashed-up gray vehicle straddling the sidewalk with debris strewn across the ground. At least a dozen firefighters can be seen alongside a number of people sitting on the ground on blankets. In another picture, firefighters appear to be helping to lift someone off the ground by the car. Videos showed the moments after the car rammed into the busy street. Multiple people could be seen bloodied and on the ground, some screaming. Others could be seen running away from the scene. A woman who had blood running down one of her legs said she couldn't feel either of them. In another video, a group of bystanders could be seen removing an individual who appeared to be the driver from the vehicle before they assaulted him. One video showed the man lying on the ground on his stomach with his hands secured behind his back while one bystander kicked him in the head and another threw what appeared to be a condiment at him. Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center told NBC News that it received patients injured in the incident, and that all of them "were brought in with minor injuries and are currently in stable condition." The medical center did not clarify how many patients it received. "This is a heartbreaking tragedy," Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said in a statement Saturday. "The hearts of Angelenos are with all of the victims impacted this morning — a full investigation into what happened is underway." A man who was inside the nightclub told NBC News that he heard a 'loud bang' and that a crowd of people ducked believing they'd heard gunshots. 'We look out the club, and it's a car into the hole right there,' he said. 'And then it's crazy, because people everywhere, laying down, unconscious people, bleeding out and stuff.' Capt. Adam VanGerpen, a public information officer for the Los Angeles Fire Department, told NBC News that the vehicle hit a taco cart before running into a large number of people outside a nightclub. He said the fire department was dispatched at 2 a.m. local time. Seven people are in critical condition and six are in serious condition, the LAFD said in a separate statement, with 10 others being treated for injuries. Seven others declined help at the scene. It said 124 fire personnel assisted at the scene. A preliminary victim count listed 18 females and 12 males injured, ranging in age from their mid-20s and to their early 30s, according to the LAPD. The investigation is ongoing.

Dumped drug waste led to £242,000 Cardigan cannabis factory
Dyfed-Powys Police said the discovery of five bags of dumped cannabis stalks on May 1 led officers to uncover a large-scale drugs operation in Cardigan. Staff at the recycling facility raised the alarm after the bags were left by men in a hired Ford Transit van. Police later intercepted the van on the road between Aberystwyth and Cardigan and arrested three men, including 20-year-old Manuel Nerguti. Although no grow was located at the time and the men were released, further intelligence led officers to a derelict house in Bridell, near Cardigan, a month later. Inside, police discovered 260 mature cannabis plants spread across five rooms and an attic, with evidence of a bypassed electricity supply and trafficking paraphernalia. During the raid on June 7, Nerguti attempted to flee but was found hiding behind a washing machine in the garage. He pleaded guilty to producing a class B drug at Swansea Crown Court on July 11 and was sentenced to six months in prison. Detective Constable Sam Garside, who led the investigation, praised the quick-thinking recycling centre staff. 'This result is thanks to the staff at the recycling centre for recognising that criminal activity was taking place and for alerting police quickly,' he said. 'We rely on the public to inform us of anything suspicious going on in their communities and we encourage people to get in touch if they suspect anything suspicious." He added that Operation Scotney continues to target illegal drug operations across Dyfed-Powys.

I tearfully watched my controlling fiancé tear up all our wedding invitations after hen party kiss… can we reconnect?
DEAR DEIDRE: WITH tears blurring my eyes, I watched my fiancé tear up all our wedding invitations one by one. He'd blown up after my friend posted a photo from my hen night of me giving another man a peck on the lips. There was nothing to it — just a silly dare — but apparently I had disrespected him. Even though my fiancé hadn't always been the best partner to me, I was still devastated when he said that we were over. I'm 26, he's 28. We'd been together for five years. In the beginning, he was a dream come true. I'd just split up from a toxic boyfriend and wasn't looking for anything serious but my fiancé-to-be wore me down with his thoughtfulness and generosity. He stalked my Instagram before our first date, and turned up with a huge bunch of my favourite flowers, and a box of my favourite perfume. Within six months we were engaged. But from the moment I said yes, it felt like his behaviour changed. He didn't like my friends, and moaned if I went on girls' nights out. I often cancelled plans in favour of staying home with him. At first, those nights were cosy and romantic – he'd cook dinner or run me a bath with candles and rose petals. As I sank into the water, I'd pinch myself that I'd met someone so kind. But then he started using drugs, and unsavoury characters would come to our door at all hours, delivering his latest stash. I started having doubts, but was in too deep to get out. It all came to a head at my hen party. We drank a lot and friends shared their misgivings. They thought he was controlling and manipulative. And as if to prove them right he started ringing my phone constantly, demanding that I came home. Annoyed, I turned off my phone and grabbed the closest bloke to fulfil my dare. My best mate must have posted the photo on purpose to split us up. I've moved back home with my mum but my fiancé still wants to meet and have sex, just in secret. He says there's a chance we'll reconnect, if we 'take things slow'. What do you think? DEIDRE SAYS: Unless your fiancé can prove he's committed to changing – agreeing to counselling for example – you'll end up navigating exactly the same issues. Until he tackles his addiction and his jealousy, he'll never be a loving, supportive partner. I know you're upset by the sudden split, but give it a little time and you'll start to see it as a blessing. FANTASIES GET WILDER AS MY WIFE SHUNS SEX DEAR DEIDRE: AS my wife grew less interested in sex, my own desires got wilder. Now I'm keen to have a bisexual experience with a male sex worker. My wife is the apple of my eye, but she had an operation a few years ago that put her into surgical menopause, making sex very painful for her. She tried to hide the discomfort from me at first, but I could see she was flinching. When she admitted it hurt, I obviously stopped all sex. She seems perfectly happy and content to live a celibate life, but I'm frustrated and now my secret fantasies are getting out of control. I'm 56, and my wife is 55. We've been together for 30 years. My most passionate recurring fantasy focuses on having hot sex with another man, who turns up at my hotel room instead of the female escort I thought I had booked. He arrives at the hotel room in motorcycle leathers so I don't immediately spot he's a man. By the time he removes his helmet and I realise my mistake, I'm already too committed. How bad would it be for me to book an escort and turn this dream into a reality? I love my wife and never, ever want to hurt her. But I can't live the rest of my life without sex. DEIDRE SAYS: I understand your frustration. A celibate lifestyle wasn't your choice. Your wife may seem content, but have you spoken to her? This lack of sex means you both miss out on intimacy and affection, not just physical relief. Your fantasy sounds erotic but it could bring your marriage crashing down. I'd suggest you start by having an open, honest chat with your wife. Explain how you're struggling with the lack of physical connection and how much you miss feeling close to her. See if she feels the same – she might not be as content as she seems. Read my support packs Love And The Mature Woman, and Menopause Explained, which go into detail about the reasons women over 50 can find sex uncomfortable, with practical suggestions you can try. Menopausal hormone changes can cause sex to feel painful, but topical oestrogen, vaginal moisturisers and HRT can make a huge improvement. BRA CHOICE TOOK ME BY SURPRISE DEAR DEIDRE: I THOUGHT my husband liked my small boobs. But when I asked him to pick me a new bra recently, he came back with a padded monstrosity designed to make mountains out of molehills. We're in our fifties and have been married for 26 years – long enough for him to know I'm a functional, cotton, B-cup type. I expected him to buy a two-pack of basic bras from the supermarket. Instead, he took himself off to a lingerie shop and brought back a red lace plunging one, with a tiny, matching thong. I can't shake the mental image of him prowling around, gawping at all the models. He keeps asking me when I'm going to wear it. DEIDRE SAYS: If he's an otherwise loving husband, I wouldn't read too much into this. He may have thought he was treating you to something a little sexier. Many men lack confidence in underwear shops. If you really dislike it, explain why, and perhaps buy yourself a more indulgent set to your taste – to give yourself a confidence boost. FAMILY FORUM DEAR DEIDRE: PLEASE could you help me arrange fairer visitation rights? My current situation is upsetting me. My ex and I have three children, aged four, six and ten. Our divorce was finalised six months ago. There weren't any traumatic reasons for the split, we simply stopped getting along. The marital home was sold and my ex bought a new house, which is where our kids now live. When we first split up, I'd return to the family home regularly to see the children. I'd take them out for the day, cook tea, or do bedtime. It was relaxing and cosy. My ex used to go out to see friends or family. Gradually, my contact has been whittled away. Now, my ex only lets me meet the children in public places – like a soft play centre – and she won't even tell me their new address. Apparently this is 'easier' for her. I understand she wouldn't want me hanging round the house with her there, but I feel like a criminal only seeing them in public places. I live in a shared house and there's no room for them to stay with me. But my ex won't even let me have the kids over for lunch. I'm being edged out of their lives. DEIDRE SAYS: I can see why you're upset. The current arrangement isn't really fostering goodwill or healthy communication. Your ex may have drawn a line with you visiting her to try and establish this new chapter more easily. But good communication is key here. Could a relative or good friend provide a safe venue for you and your children? Read my support pack, When Parents Fall Out. It goes into the different ways children can suffer during a split. It would be great if you and your ex could read it together. Another positive step might be mediation. A trained mediator will help you both to sort out a fair contact schedule that puts the children's needs first. Also, try talking to (0300 0300 363), for help and advice. AM I JUST HER 'TOY BOY'? DEAR DEIDRE: MY girlfriend is older than me, and very successful. We met eight years ago when I was 29 and she was 45. We've always had a good relationship, but somehow I feel more like a plaything than a partner. For example, her job paid way more than mine, so I quit to look after the housework. She even bought me an apron and often asks me to wear it with nothing underneath. I also overheard her on the phone, referring to me as her 'toy boy'. Now I don't feel like an equal. I feel like a joke. DEIDRE SAYS: I'm sure most of us have used a jokey term when talking about our partner to a friend. But this one touched a nerve. Talk to her and let her know you feel taken for granted and ridiculed. This might be a sign that you're unfulfilled being a stay-at-home partner. Why not explore getting back into work? A new job could help you rebuild your confidence, and to feel more like an equal inside your relationship.
