Dai Jones Llanilar Memorial Prize launched at Royal Welsh
The Dai Jones Llanilar Memorial Prize is a collaboration between S4C and the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society.
It honours the memory of the late Dai Jones, a much-loved farmer and broadcaster who died in 2022, aged 78.
Dai Jones was a prominent figure in Welsh media and agriculture for more than 50 years.
The prize will offer a young person the chance to develop and broadcast an original idea with professional production support.
Geraint Evans, chief executive of S4C, said: "At S4C, we were keen to establish a prize in memory of Dai, and to mark his invaluable contribution to the world of agriculture and the world of broadcasting in Wales.
"He really was one of the most talented broadcasters on Welsh television.
"We hope that the prize, dedicated to Dai's legacy, will open the door to the world of broadcasting for young people, and will nurture future talent while ensuring that we continue to bring fresh and relevant content from the agricultural world in Wales to S4C."
The winner will work with production companies Telesgop and Slam to turn their idea into a fully developed broadcast segment for S4C.
Professor Wynne Jones, chair of the board of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, said: "The society is eager to have a special award for young people who are enthusiastic about rural issues and the importance of rural Wales.
"Dai's family are very supportive and are proud to see the media and the Royal Welsh Show working together to create this special opportunity for the next generation of presenters and workers in the field.
"This award will ensure that Dai's legacy continues for years to come."
The competition is open to individuals under the age of 30 who submit an idea related to the countryside or agriculture.
Entries must be sent to Telesgop by October 1.
Applicants are also asked to include a brief personal statement explaining why they should win.
Shortlisted candidates will present their ideas to a panel including representatives from the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, Young Farmers, and production teams from Ffermio, Cefn Gwlad, and S4C.
The winner will be announced at the Winter Fair in Llanelwedd on November 24 and 25.
Entries should be no longer than one A4 page and emailed to gwawr.lewis@telesgop.cymru.

Wrexham: Maxine Huges puts off surgery to attend Eisteddfod
Maxine Hughes, originally from Conwy, is well known for being the official Welsh interpreter of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney the two Hollywood actors who purchased Wrexham FC four years ago. The well-respected journalist would tease the pair as they struggled to come to terms with some Welsh phrases. But this year has been one of significant challenges for Maxine who recently revealed she has just finished an intensive course of chemotherapy and faces further surgery immediately after the Eisteddfod. She said the diagnosis came shortly following the death of her father, John, late last year. Speaking on the Maes she said she was incredibly proud to accept the invitation to be the leader of the Wales and the World at the Eisteddfod. "And I was in hospital when the email came that I was to be inducted into the Gorsedd. I nearly fainted I was so happy. "It is such a great honour to be recognised by the Gorsedd, and as Leader of Wales and the World this year, and even more significant because the Eisteddfod is in Wrexham. I am so proud my father's family is from Wrexham and he would have been even prouder that this is happening here, his home town," she said. Maxine added she is heading back to the USA immediately after the Eisteddfod and undergoing surgery early next week. "The surgery was due to take place this week but I was able to explain to the surgeon that I needed to be here and he agreed to put it back a week," she said. She said she looks forward to the Eisteddfod every year. "I aim to come back to Wales in August with the boys to see the family members and go over to the Eisteddfod wherever it is being held. As well as being the Leader of Wales and the World I will be holding other sessions with the Welsh Government and students," he said. When she was young Maxine competed regularly and successfully in the National Eisteddfod. "The Urdd Eisteddfod and the National Eisteddfod were a big part of my childhood. I recited individually as a pupil at Ysgol Bodnant and at Ysgol Bryn Elian there was a lot of singing. I also danced and competed in gymnastics and I was happy to take part and enjoy," he said. Her work has included some of the world's biggest news stories, from the earthquake and tsunami in Japan to the war in Syria, and of course the American elections. She had the opportunity to meet and interview Donald Trump for the first of S4C's three-part documentary series, Extreme World. MOST READ: Eisteddfod in Wrexham: Where is it and how much are tickets? Rumours are rife on the Maes that we will see Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney at the Eisteddfod but Maxine explained that that is unlikely. "They are busy preparing for the new season in a new league and their focus is all on the club. "What they have done with the club has been fantastic and I appreciate what they have done for the city," he said. Maxine gave a speech as the leader of Wales and the World at the Gymanfa Ganu in the Pavilion on Sunday night.

Wrexham: Best images from the first day of the Eisteddfod
Being held in Wrexham for the first time in 14 years, hundreds descended on the Maes in Isycoed to celebrate Welsh culture and traditions. There were a host of competitions and shows taking place across the site, as well as activities for people of all ages. Traders showed off their produce at the dozens of stalls set up in the main area of the site, whilst numerous food vendors served up the best they had to offer. Into the night and there were a range of live performances across different venues at the Maes, from the pavilion to Ty Gwerin. Earlier in the day, Rhosllannerchrugog's very own Mark Lewis Jones addressed the crowd at the Maes. The famous actor from Wrexham has been named President of the Eisteddfod for the week and made a speech to kick the weeklong festival off. In his speech he said: "My grandfather, Jonathan Dafis, sang in the pavilion many times as a loyal member of the Rhos Male Voice Choir, as well as helping to organise the festival when he came to the area in 1945, but somehow when I was growing up I didn't feel that the Eisteddfod was relevant to me. (Credit: Aled Llywelyn) (Image: Aled Llywelyn) "I was, and continue to be, a proud Welshman, brought up in a community that was Welsh even though we were so close to the border, but even so I didn't think the Eisteddfod was for a Welshman like me. And it took me a while to understand that I was wrong." He added his wife, Gwenno, runs a clothes shop in Cardiff, and would regularly hire a stall on the Maes. MORE LIKE THIS: "One of my favourite memories of coming to the Eisteddfod (with Gwenno), was meeting and chatting with people who had travelled from afar to be part of the festival. "It became clear to me how essential the Eisteddfod is, supporting and promoting the arts in our country. I now have four sons, each one appreciating the importance of the festival, and Jacob, the youngest, is working on the Maes this week. "I have come to understand what Taid understood from the beginning - that the Eisteddfod is for everyone, for everyone. And if he was still with us I know he would be here, in the front row, with a proud smile on his face when he finally saw his grandson on stage."

Superdrug's £13 alternative to Catherine Zeta-Jones' favourite Tom Ford perfume 'My favourite perfume. The scent lasts forever and reminds me of hot summer nights' Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has revealed her favourite fragrance and shoppers can buy it from high-end retailers (Image: Getty Images) Sometimes, when we stumble upon a perfume, we know it's a special one if it takes us back to a specific time or place. Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, who is known for her elegance and beauty, has revealed her favourite fragrance that does exactly that - and it can be bought from high-end retailers. The actress and singer, known for starring in Chicago and The Legend of Zorro, revealed in an interview with Glamour back in 2021 that one of her favourite scents was Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge. As it suggests in the name, the perfume contains Jasmine, which, according to the actress, "evokes such wonderful memories for [her]". During the interview, Catherine said: "We have a lot of jasmine around the property in Mallorca, and I always take my last swim as the sun is going down. That's when the jasmine really starts to flourish and you can smell it." Tom Ford Jasmin Rogue comes in a deep red bottle with a gold front, which evokes glamour. It's easy to see why a Hollywood star like Catherine Zeta-Jones loves a scent like this. If you are looking for a similar scent but from an alternative retailer - and more importantly, for a more affordable price, there are other options out there. A 50ml bottle of Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge could cost you in the range of £188.70 to £222 from retailers such as John Lewis, Selfridges and from the Tom Ford website (Image: Selfridges) The NOU Jasmin Perfume for Women EDP 50ml, for example, was £27.10 but is now £11.20 at Superdrug, providing a £15.90 saving for beauty enthusiasts. The NOU Jasmin Perfume combines 'captivating' jasmine notes for a 'floral and alluring scent that lasts' according to the retailer. While there are no reviews of the perfume on Superdrug's website, there are on Amazon's site, which is currently selling the perfume for a marginally higher price of £12.99. So far, NOU Jasmin Perfume on Amazon has received a rating of 3.6 out of five stars based on 64 global reviews. "Love the fragrance," one happy reviewer said. "Exactly Jasmin smell. If you compare this to south India wedding, this smell you will get commonly as Jasmine flower we use in wedding for decorations/ for hair etc". But not everyone was pleased with the perfume and gave it a three-star rating. They reviewed: "Smells nice and a bit like jasmine but the perfume doesn't last long". However, another customer said it had a "very gentle scent", while another said it was "perfect". Elsewhere, those looking for a jasmine scent for a decent price could also purchase the Yardley English Jasmine Eau de Toilette 125ml from Boots, originally priced at £18 but now £6 cheaper at £12. The Boots fragrance has a floral scent, with notes of lemon and mandarin, mixed with 'delicate' notes of calamondin and frangipani, which complements the rich floral jasmine scent. The fragrance has received a rating of 3.9 out of five stars and 29 reviews. One customer was seemingly happy with their purchase and reviewed: "The scent is sooooooo good the citrusy floral scent just captures you. "The scent last long for about 3 hours and I love the packaging as it gives a rich look. It is also very cheap and worth the money and also love the fact that it is vegan friendly so I can recommend to my vegan friends". Like Catherine Zeta-Jones, this perfume evoked memories for one shopper. In their review, they penned: "Yardleys is a brand that reminds me of my Grandma, yet it's a brand I have grown to love over the years. "This scent is beautiful, not too strong that it overpowers the room but fresh enough. I have been wearing this perfume for the last month and have had several compliments. "This is a brand I have bought before and will definitely continue to buy. This product is value for money and I've even heard this particular scent be compared to Gucci. The packaging is good quality as well as a well made bottle." But the perfume didn't suit everyone. One shopper claimed: "The perfume isn't as strong as others nor does it last as long as I would have liked it to, the scent doesn't resemble jasmine, it's more like a wood smell, however the size of the bottle is good value for money, + it's vegan so it works well for a wider range of people". However, other customers were of a different view. This reviewer said: "I absolutely love Yardley London English Jasmine Eau de Toilette! The scent is fresh, floral, and beautifully delicate, making me feel elegant and confident every time I wear it. "It has the perfect balance—light enough for everyday use but still long-lasting. The jasmine notes are so natural and refreshing, not too overpowering, just the right amount of sophistication. "The packaging is also lovely, simple yet classy. Plus, I appreciate that it's made with 94% natural ingredients and is vegan & cruelty-free. It's truly one of my favourite fragrances!" Catherine Zeta-Jones isn't the only one to love Tom Ford Jasmin Rogue. While there are no reviews on the Selfridges and Tom Ford website, on John Lewis's website, the perfume has received a rating of five out of five stars based on eight reviews. One customer said: "My favourite perfume. The scent lasts forever and reminds me of hot summer nights." Another described it as "truly amazing and unique". And while one praised it as "refreshing and lasting", they had an issue with one thing. They added: "Absolutely love it. It's expensive but well worth it. However, not sure about the bottle's design, could do better; the bottle is masculine looking whereas the scent is delicate."
