Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday said crude oil prices are back at USD 67 per barrel and are likely to remain around that level.Speaking at the 77th Foundation Day of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), Puri also said India increased biofuel blending and is sourcing crude oil from 40 countries as against 27 earlier.He said when the tensions were at their peak in the Gulf region recently, many tried to be alarmist about the crude oil prices moving northwards."I said nothing will happen. Oil prices sahi rahenge (will remain stable). Don't worry. And the price of oil is back to USD 67 a barrel. Why do I say that? ...there is enough oil available in the world," the minister said.Moreover, Puri added India has diversified its crude oil sourcing."We used to buy oil from 27 countries, we are buying it from 40 countries," he said.The minister also spoke in detail about the achievements made by the country in bio-fuel blending, and meeting targets ahead of schedule."We are the second-highest biofuel blending nation in the world. And today, when I look at it, any day you could raise it from 20 per cent to 25 per cent and 30 per cent. You have to just do your consultation and take what is along," he said.Puri further said green hydrogen is the fuel of the future.In his address, the minister also listed the achievements of the Modi government during the past 11 years.He said the ministry's flagship Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana , has delivered over 16.5 crore LPG connections since 2014, empowering women, reducing indoor air pollution, and promoting public health.The growing market capitalisation of Oil & Gas PSUs-nearly doubling to Rs 8.79 lakh crore since 2014-reflects the sector's robust performance and the trust of investors, he said.He further said that in the past 11 years, India has risen from the eleventh to the fourth largest economy in the world.He said India's GDP has more than doubled-from USD 2.1 trillion in 2014 to USD 4.3 trillion in 2025."We have recently overtaken Japan and are poised to become the third-largest economy by 2030, overtaking Germany," the minister said while highlighting the country's resilience during global headwinds and the critical role played by bold policy reforms, extensive social welfare schemes, and sound financial management.The Minister called on chartered accountants to embrace artificial intelligence and advanced analytics, automating routine tasks to focus on strategic advisory roles and harnessing data-driven insights for more effective decision-making."Embracing AI is no longer optional-it is essential for staying competitive and innovative in today's evolving financial world," he said.Puri urged the ICAI community to uphold transparency, efficiency, and accountability as India marches towards a developed nation by 2047.Speaking at the occasion, ICAI President Charanjot Singh Nanda said that from 1700 members to over 4 lakh members spanning across 47 countries, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has grown a long way in the last 77 years."As a trusted partner in nation building ICAI has always supported the Government initiatives contributing to India's journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat. Our profession is evolving rapidly, with AI, blockchain, and big data, the tools may change, but our values must remain constant," Nanda said.

Lucknow: IIT-Kanpur's Centre of Excellence in AI for Sustainable Cities and IBM , a leading provider of global hybrid cloud and AI, have joined hands to deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI) to fight against air pollution in Uttar Pradesh . Govt relief package: 110 Surat schools submit 3,200 forms for fee assistance
At least 110 schools in Surat submitted over 3,200 application forms for fee assistance — as a part of the state government relief package for diamond polishers' children — benefiting 10,921 students to the Surat District Industries Centre on Monday, sources familiar with the matter said on Tuesday. The forms will be verified by the Surat Diamond Association before being forwarded to the approval committee headed by District Collector Dr Sourabh Pardhi. Earlier in May, the state government announced a special assistance package for the diamond industry. Under the relief package, the state government will cover the school fees of children of diamond polishers, providing an annual sum of Rs 13,500 for one year. The criteria to avail the scheme benefits include the diamond polisher being unemployed for the last year and having worked in the industry for at least three years. The government will directly pay the fees to the schools. The diamond industry has been experiencing a prolonged period of recession for over two-and-a-half years now. The diamond polishers, along with middle and small diamond unit owners, have been facing great financial difficulty due to the reduced demand for polished diamonds in the international market. There are over 4,000 small, medium, and large diamond factories in Surat city, employing a workforce of over 5 lakh diamond workers. Out of the 10 polished diamonds found in the world, eight are cut and polished in Surat city. The majority of the workforce in the diamond industry hails from Saurashtra and other parts of Gujarat and are settled in Surat city. Following the announcement of a special relief package by the state government, schools were instructed to make students and their parents aware of the scheme. The school authorities had also distributed forms among the students, seeking all necessary details. The form submission is being done in three phases, with the first phase ending on Monday, while the second and third phases are scheduled for July 7 and 23, according to sources in the Surat district administration. On Monday, 110 schools submitted 3,200 forms to the district industries commissioner. Majority of such schools are located in Katargam, Kapodara, Sarthana, and Varachha areas in Surat city. Surat District Industries Commissioner Jigar Dave told The Indian Express, 'We have received 3,200 application forms from 110 schools, and the number of beneficiaries is over 10,921 students'. 'We will be sending these forms to the Surat Diamond Association for verification, including confirmation of whether the applicant is actually a diamond polisher and if they have been jobless for the last year. There are two more phases left for accepting such forms. Once these forms are verified, it will be sent to the scrutiny committee, and later it will reach the approval committee headed by Surat District Collector Dr Sourabh Pardhi'. Surat Diamond Association President Jagdish Khunt told The Indian Express, 'We are expecting more such forms in the coming days. A core committee meeting regarding the disbursement of the special assistance package will be held on Thursday'. 'We already have a staff crunch. How are we supposed to handle 3,200 forms? We will share our concerns with the committee head, the Surat District Collector. We are also preparing for our upcoming loose diamond auction event which will be held in Surat city from July 11 to 13. How will we take care of so much work?' Khunt asked.

Former minister Balbir Sidhu levels financial irregularities allegations against Mohali BDPO
Former Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu has accused Mohali Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) Dhanwant Singh Randhawa of serious financial irregularities and demanded his immediate suspension. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Sidhu urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to launch a thorough investigation into the alleged scams. Sidhu alleged that Rs 13.32 lakh was sanctioned for the beautification and renovation of a pond in Bakarpur village, but no work was carried out. Similarly, Rs 1,72,406 was shown as spent on constructing a garbage shed in Kurda village, which, he claimed, does not even exist. 'The BDPO office has become a hub of financial scams and corruption. Randhawa is targeting opposition-aligned village heads under the protection of MLA Kulwant Singh,' Sidhu said. He further stated that Randhawa is already booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act in a case registered on March 5, yet no action has been taken. He also cited the example of former Sarpanch Davinder Singh, claiming he was falsely implicated in an illegal mining case, in which the court later granted anticipatory bail. 'Randhawa has a history of forgery cases, including those registered in Khanna, but no action has been taken because of political backing,' Sidhu added. He also revealed that Baljinder Singh Garewal, District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO), had submitted a complaint against Randhawa to the department on May 19, but instead of taking action, the department transferred the DDPO himself. The former minister further alleged that issuing utility certificates for panchayats involves rampant bribery under Randhawa's tenure. Present at the press conference were Harkesh Chand Sharma, Davinder Singh (ex-Sarpanch of Kurda), Hakam Singh, Gulzar Singh, and Gyan Singh, among others. When contacted for a response, Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh dismissed Sidhu's claims, saying, 'the former health minister is completely idle these days and has lost his mental balance'. 'Balbir Sidhu is a rejected politician who has been thoroughly disowned by the people of Mohali. These baseless allegations are just his way of trying to stay relevant in the news,' the MLA remarked.
