I scoured Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale — here's 7 luxury deals I'm shopping from Ugg, Le Creuset, Ray-Ban and more

Nordstrom's Anniversary sale is live! The annual savings extravaganza takes place each summer and offers unbelievable discounts on some of the top luxury brands. I've decided to peruse the sale and the deals were just too good not to share. I'm not one to constantly splurge on designer things — but every once in a while, I'll see a luxury item that I must have. Case in point: Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale has a few worth mentioning. And the deals are really that good — especially for brands like Ugg, Le Creuset, Ray Ban and more. Below, I've rounded up everything I'm eyeing — and it's going to take all my willpower not to add every single item to my cart. Here's what I recommend shopping from Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale. The sale ends Sunday, so be sure to shop ASAP! No one wants room temperature wine in the summer, so if you're looking for a solution, these fabulous wine glasses will keep your drink chilled for up to 2 hours. All you have to do is pop the glass in the freezer to chill the built-in active cooling gel and prepare for carefree sipping. If there were ever a perfect set of cups for summer, these are them! If I'm at home, I'm always in my slippers. And lately, I've been thinking of upgrading my current pair since I wear them so often (yes, I'm a home body). Ugg is a brand that I've loved since I was little, so it only makes sense that I'd want to grab these fluffy slippers. The slide sandal features cross-straps of plush shearling that pairs perfectly with any loungewear. A Le Creuset tea set for under $100? Sign me up. I've been hoping to add a piece from the Le Creuset collection to my kitchen — but the reality is that the brand can be very pricey. Fortunately, this deal knocks $45 off the price. Now, I can display this adorable tea kettle on my stove and get two cups to complement it. My husband has been on the search for a new pair of sneakers for quite sometime now. But after endless browsing, I think this is the deal for him. The On Cloud 5 is versatile enough for everyday wear, and looks pretty darn good, too. I'd happily walk the miles in these sneakers, and customers highly rate them for being lightweight, high quality and perfect for long periods of wear. I've never been one to splurge on fancy sunglasses, but this Ray-Ban deal has me reconsidering. With $50 off, this is a great deal for the popular shades. They feature a small, oval silhouette and are super chic — or as Ray-Ban likes to call them "millennial minimalism." I've been looking to upgrade my carry-on and I think I've found the perfect deal. Béis is a luggage brand that makes stylish and functional travel gear. I actually own their Weekender Bag and I love it. However, I'm looking for something a little larger that can still be considered a carry-on — like this stunning suitcase. It features two-way zip-around closure with an integrated TSA-approved combination lock and it has plenty of compartments inside to make packing simple. Ok now this is a deal I already own — and totally recommend! I love my Boll & Branch duvet cover. It's comfy, made of high quality, organic cotton and is super easy to wash. Plus, its vining floral pattern gives will give your bed a unique and elevated look. $120 off is a total steal for this brand if you ask me.

These Aquatic Perfumes Smell So Clean and Fresh You'll Want to Wear Them Every Day

Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. As it turns out, aquatic perfumes are highly divisive. I know! I was surprised to learn this too, especially since my fragrance obsession is Ellis Brooklyn's Salt. I assumed that aquatic perfumes were just accepted as ethereal, enchanting quaffs that bring sun-dappled beach days and softly singing mermaids to mind. Turns out, I was wrong. When I told a fragrance-industry friend I was researching aquatic perfumes, the first thing she did was rave (at length) over Henry Rose Jake's House. Then, sent me a link to a beauty podcast we both love— and the hosts were ripping into aquatic scents. Actually, they had a point. It's true that some aquatic fragrances smell a bit heavy and gimmicky—generic, even. However, for every stifling scent that's meant to evoke azure waves (but smells like cheap suntan lotion instead), there's an alternative with the allure of a siren song. 'There's an escapist quality to aquatics that is so appealing,' says Ellis Brooklyn founder Bee Shapiro. 'The fragrances conjure images of beach, watery zen and just overall well-being. After our last several hard years as a collective society, there is something so right about aquatics. We're all trying to find our peace and personal healing.' Amen to that. To find the best aquatic scents of all, I interviewed five perfumers and fragrance experts, and put my own pulse points to the test. Here are the 18 best aquatic perfumes to infuse the languid, dreamy feel of a beach escape into your everyday beauty routine. Inspired by coastal Vietnam, where Diptyque co-founder Yves Couesiant spent his summers, this addictive perfume has top notes of tuberose and orange blossom, a heart of jasmine, and a base note of amber—but there's also a subtle hint of the sea. 'Though it has a floral composition, it includes a note known as the marine accord, which is an olfactory note that creates the sensation of being close to the ocean,' explains Jessie Dawes, chief marketing officer for Diptyque Americas. 'It's a story of the flowers cooled by the sea breeze, brought back from the local markets by Coueisant's mother.' Notes: Tuberose, orange blossom, jasmine Size: 2.5 oz Nordstrom rating: 4.8/5 stars A Nordstrom reviewer says: 'I've never had a fragrance like this. It's floral and slightly musky and masculine without being too 'nighttime.'' This is it, the star of my olfactory show. It's the perfume that got me hooked on oceanic scents. While some aquatic perfumes capture the essence of a full beach day—tropical drinks, suntan lotion, the coconut-y works —this variation smells like the sea itself. Describing her inspiration, Shapiro tells ELLE: 'Salt Eau de Parfum is the first day of a beach vacation. You wake up early on your own, there's no one on the beach yet, and there's still that morning freshness in the air. It's such a unique fragrance because it's not playing on any oceanside perfume stereotypes. It's this gorgeous, sophisticated take on how the ocean makes us feel.' Notes: Ylang ylang, violet leaves absolute, Tahitian tiare, magnolia dianica, musk, vegan ambergris, sandalwood Size: .25-1.7 fl oz Ellis Brooklyn rating: 4.4/ 5 stars An Ellis Brooklyn reviewer says: 'This fragrance is so unique and beautiful. It literally smells like a day on the water. Think sunscreen in the best possible way, think salty wet skin. It smells like summer.' Inspired by the sea and the sky, this ethereal scent is a go-to for Shapiro. 'There's light and water here,' she says. 'There is also some oomph.' Packaged in the daintest crystalline bottle, the fragrance has top notes of bergamot and blackcurrant; a heart of jasmine and mimosa is underneath. Its base is a fruity, musky accord that may account for that glamorous oomph. Notes: Italian bergamot oil, blackcurrant bud absolue, Egyptian jasmine accord, French mimosa absolue, fruity musky accord Size: 2.4-6.8 oz Nordstrom rating: 3.9/5 stars A Nordstrom reviewer says: 'So beautiful. Juicy, heavenly, rich. Smells like vacation in the Bahamas.' One spritz of this, and I get the impression that I'm in a citrus grove somewhere, hanging dresses out to dry in the sun. (Very Tomato Girl.) The perfume is part of Clean Reserve's new H2EAU collection, which came with a watery directive. 'When we briefed the perfumers, we asked them to capture the moment of being in certain areas of the world that were inspired by water,' says Tara Kearns, Clean's director of fragrance and product development. 'For Golden Citrus, Steven Claisse's inspiration was drawn from the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea and the delicate aroma of neroli blossoms.' Not only is it delightful for the nose, but the water-based formulation is hydrating and gentle on sensitive skin. Notes: Mandarin, orange blossom, musk Size: 0.34-3.4 oz Sephora rating: 4.7/5 stars A Sephora reviewer says: 'Lovely warm citrus that dries down to a crisp, clean laundry scent.' The fresh solar fragrance melds notes of coconut water with peach skin and salty musk. It's sweet, but not overly so, and it's the kind of scent that inspires happy daydreams so vivid you can practically hear the crashing waves. As Kearns describes it, 'Chris Collins Lost in Paradise has dreamy, creamy, marine notes that are so delicious.' Notes: Coconut water, peach skin, salted musk Size: 0.3-1.7 oz Sephora rating: 4.1/5 stars A Sephora reviewer says: 'I love coconut in perfume, but I'm not a fan of sunscreen-y scents. This is not that at all. It's an effortless, creamy coconut musk— definitely a 'your skin but better' scent!' Henry Rose founder Michelle Pfeiffer wanted a scent that channeled her grandfather Jake's house in North Dakota. As a kid, she always thought it smelled wonderfully fresh and clean. Developed by perfumer Pascal Gaurin, the resulting perfume blends watery, fresh marine top notes with honeyed neroli and peony. A musky base layer makes for a clean, second-skin finish. When I have this on, it's impossible for me to stop sniffing my wrist— and I'm not alone. 'It's become a fan favorite due to its bright, solar signature juxtaposed with sensual musk,' Gaurin says. He adds that its 'light freshness' is genderless and seasonless. Notes: Fresh marine, neroli, peony, jasmine, ambroxan, musk Size: 0.7-1.7 oz Credo rating: 4.4/5 stars A Henry Rose reviewer says: 'Jake's House is perfect. It smells fresh, not fake, and it lasts for hours—but not too long. If I ever find out where Jake's House is, I'm moving in.' According to Gaurin, 'Marc Jacobs Perfect Eau de Toilette is another aquatic favorite.' He notes that its 'luminous florals and crisp fruitiness,' mixed with minerality, make for 'joyful, watery freshness.' Plus, there's the ultra-cute packaging: decked with charms, the bottle is eye candy for your vanity. Notes: Pink peppercorn, polygonum, cedarwood Size: 0.33-3.4 oz Ulta rating: 4.3/5 stars A Sephora reviewer says: This is an uplifting, beautiful, floral scent. I can't help but feel joyful when I wear it.' With a fresh, soapy smell that evokes clean sheets, flowers on the windowsill, and, of course, long soaks in the tub, this smells like a relaxing, lazy weekend. The unisex perfume has rose and lavender to promote that feeling of post-bubble-bath bliss; it also has a little creaminess from its coconut milk accord. Notes: Soap bubble accord, rose superessence, white musk, coconut milk accord Size: 0.3-3.4 oz Sephora rating: 3.9/5 stars A Sephora reviewer says: 'Fresh and clean without being too soapy or floral, this is such a unique fragrance.' A scent called Shower better refresh all your senses, and this one does the trick. The peppy perfume has a squeaky-clean feel, offering a crisp blend of sea spray, neroli, orange blossom, and white patchouli. Plus, it's affordable, which should perk you right up, too. Notes: Sea spray, neroli, orange blossom, white patchouli Size: 1 oz Jones Road rating: 4.5/5 stars A Jones Road reviewer says: 'This has really captured the fragrance of coming out of the shower. It wakes me up in the morning. Love that kind of scent!' Evoking mussed sheets, the Italian coast, and the heady feelings of falling in love, this was inspired by David and Victoria Beckham's early trips to Portofino. The scent has a hint of seaspray clouded with musky notes of incense, amber, and patchouli. Plus, its enamel-blue bottle looks like it was casually picked up at the Riviera market. Notes: Bergamot, black pepper, incense, amber, patchouli, sea breeze Size: 3.38 oz Neiman Marcus rating: 4.8/5 stars A Neiman Marcus reviewer says: 'I love this perfume so much because it smells so alluring and doesn't smell like anything else out there. It's fresh and elegant with a bit of je ne sais quoi.' Every time I smell this, I want to wish on falling stars and skip around a little. It's the sweetest, most whimsical perfume, whipped up with notes of cotton candy and raspberry sorbet. I know what you're thinking—no, it's not overly sweet. You get a hint of brine with its top note of aquatic accord. Even better, it's also hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin. Notes: Aquatic accord, watery apple, water lily, coconut milk, cotton candy, vanilla, solar amber, musk Size: 0.33-1.7 oz Amazon rating: 4.3/5 stars An Amazon reviewer says: 'It's sweet and fluffy without the overly perfumed smell. Hard to explain, but when I'm wearing it I just feel happy.' A total compliment magnet, strangers will stop you to ask what you're wearing, and to that, you'll say this perfect springtime scent. Best Clean Fragrance of 2023 melds notes of pear and jasmine with fresh-cut grass. It's casual and blissful, and it smells like the best spring day ever on your wrist. Notes: Coconut, Tuscan fig, amber Size: 1.7 oz Sephora rating: 4.4/5 stars A Sephora reviewer says: "It has some fruity and green notes that I don't typically go for but it's so well done in this fragrance it's made me branch out from my comfort zone. Easy to wear everyday." When he designed this scent, perfumer Romano Ricci had a desert scene in mind. He pictured a free-spirited dancer at Burning Man, twirling around in a vanilla-scented haze. Like any vanilla scent, this one has a hint of cozy sweetness. But it has an earthy, untamed edge brought forth by sandalwood and sea salt. Notes: Sea salt, natural vanilla, sandalwood Size: 0.25-1.7 oz A Sephora reviewer says: 'Dark, musky, vanilla, it's perfect for a seductive scent. I absolutely love it!' With packaging akin to a Vegas hotel's golden vibrancy, this is another Noteworthies winner. Inspired by Christian Louboutin's love of Portugal, it opens with bright citrus and blossoms notes before unleashing its marine accord. Loubimar feels decadent, sea-soaked, and sundazed, like a getaway at a heartbreakingly lavish resort. Notes: Lemon, tuberose, salty accord Size: 3 oz Nordstrom rating: 5/5 stars A Nordstrom reviewer says: 'An indulgence. A bit expensive but the perfume smells lovely and the bottle is beautiful.' This is an aquatic perfume with a rustic twist. Inspired by crashing waves on a windswept shore, it has an invigorating and fresh sea-salt heart. The oceanic notes are cushioned with musky ambrette seeds and earthy sage. Notes: Ambrette seeds, sea salt, sage Size: 1-3.4 oz Jo Malone rating: 4.5/5 stars A Jo Malone reviewer says: 'This is a stunning scent that flows beautifully through the bottom, middle and top notes as the day progresses. Every time I wear this perfume somebody tells me how amazing I smell.' 'There are these aquatic molecules that were created in perfumery. They are synthetic, like the ingredient Calone, and there's an aspect to them that feels and smells like the sea,' Shapiro explains. 'Aquatic perfumes range from fresh and watery to very marine (think salty and literal ocean here) and ozonic. The ozonic fragrances are fascinating because they feel like air but also the sea. You can add warmth and depth to any of the categories as well, and can get a solar feel.' 'Shopping for fragrance is incredibly personal, and finding your scent may require a bit of time, so enjoy the journey,' Dawes encourages. 'When trying different fragrances, take your time to see what that fragrance evokes for you. If a fragrance taps into something a little deeper than just a beautiful scent, you're on the right path to finding a great match.' She adds: 'Also consider how you're going to wear the fragrance, whether that be for work, a special occasion, or an evening out. All of these factors will impact your decision.' Also, don't pay too much attention to the notes. 'Fragrances are so blended that exact notes for the usual shopper may be tough to distinguish,' Shapiro says. 'Instead, read the description for the vibes and see if they match your own. I also recommend sampling somehow first, and if that isn't possible, buy a sampler pack or travel spray.' It's easy to get overwhelmed by scent when sniffing sample after sample in-store. 'Sniff your shoulder between each scent,' suggests Moltz. 'Spray your two faves on your left and right wrist, respectively. See what you like most.' He adds: 'Sample sets are good, but you should put on more sprays because those tiny atomizers don't put out too much. Nothing beats a spray from a full bottle.' 'When thinking about aquatic fragrances, water comes to mind first, and because water is essential to all plants and flowers, aquatic perfumes pair really well with fragrances that are either green or floral,' saws Dawes. This pairing creates the sensation of fresh, early morning dew. Personally, she layers Diptyque's green-aquatic Eau de Lierre with the brand's Eau Rose. 'It brings to life the scent of a rose garden at dawn right on the skin.' Shapiro adds: 'Aquatics, especially the watery kinds, can blend well with citruses. There's that same airy spirit there. But richer and deeper aquatics can actually do well with gourmands. Like our SALT eau de parfum wears so well with our SWEET eau de parfum. Together the perfumes have a salty and sweet quality that's as addictive as salted chocolate chip cookies.' 'Usually aquatic fragrances are associated with the spring and summer. But it truly depends on how the fragrances are constituted,' Shapiro says. 'For example with our SALT eau de parfum, we use vegan ambergris as our aquatic note and then we have a solar, warm aspect to it with the surrounding notes. The effect is less seasonal—not your typical sunscreen fragrance or watery aquatic—and it has enough of a base that it can wear even in the winter.' Jessie Dawes is the chief marketing officer for Diptyque Americas. Bee Shapiro is the founder of Ellis Brooklyn. Tara Kearns is the director of fragrance and product development at Clean Beauty Collective. Pascal Gaurin is the vice president and senior perfumer at IFF. David Seth Moltz is the co-founder of D.S. & Durga.

These Rose Scents Are Nothing Like Your Grandma's Perfume

Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. There's just something about roses that has made me want to smell like them from a young age. Maybe it's because they're beautiful and I want to carry that beauty with me. Perhaps it's because, as Jessie Dawes, the chief marketing officer for Diptyque Americas, says, 'Rose scents evoke a sense of delicate sensuality both visually in nature and in its fragrance form.' Or maybe it's as simple as the fact that roses smell so darn good to me. Whatever the reason, I've invariably had an affinity for rose fragrances, whether it's spring, summer, winter, or fall. The best compliment I've ever gotten: 'You always smell like roses.' Much to my dismay, not everyone shares my obsession. And honestly, I get it—many of the rose perfumes of yore had that suffocating powdery quality that strikes people as old-fashioned. Or, as several of my friends have put it, 'old lady-ish.' But I stand here today to solemnly swear that I've found over a dozen rose perfumes that smell fresh, modern, and chic. Not all of them are going to suit everyone. But give one a sniff, and you might be delighted by the olfactory garden that greets you. 'While often a polarizing note, I believe there is a rose-based fragrance for everyone. Rose scents can either be soft and sweet or lean bold and spicy,' says Autumne West, the national beauty director at Nordstrom. I firmly feel that to be true, too. If you're ready to begin your own romance with rose fragrances, all you have to do is keep reading. ELLE editors tested a bouquet of rose perfumes to find the 17 best rose fragrances you're bound to fall in love with. Cappadocia draws from its namesake, a region in Turkey renowned for its stunning rocky terrain, colorful hot air balloon rides, and 'fairy chimneys': tall, naturally formed pillars of rock sculpted by the elements over millennia. The scent itself is a symphony of florals, saffron, and sandalwood that transports you to the Turkish destination. Notes: Saffron, sandalwood oil, myrrh resinoid, Turkish rose Size: 2.5 oz. Memo Paris rating: 5/5 stars An ELLE editor says: 'Saffron gives fragrance a unique, sexy, smell. This fragrance is delightful and always leads to many compliments from strangers. I'm running low on my sample, so I layered it with a pure rose scent—and wow! It amplified the Turkish rose, creating a lovely aroma.' —Danielle James, beauty expert If you ever wake up and think, 'I just want to smell like roses today,' this is the one. Although it contains other notes, like lychee, chamomile, and artichoke, that complement the main scent, the rose shines through—without a hint of powder. 'If you prefer something bright and sweet, look for rose fragrances that are blended with fruity accents, like Diptyque's Eau Rose,' says Dawes. Notes: Rose damascena, centifolia rose, chamomile, litchi, artichoke Nordstrom rating: 4.8/5 stars An ELLE contributor says: 'There are few things in life I find more beautiful than a classic bouquet of red roses—and being able to smell like one, too. This masterful Diptyque scent is great for rose purists (featuring three types of rose extracts, including one that's upcycled for an earth-friendly touch), with an interesting tinge of chamomile and artichoke for a romantic yet balanced finish.' —Sam Peters, Hearst senior commerce editor This unisex scent has an inherent sensuality that rubs off on the wearer, a credit to the masterful mingling of saffron, rose, and amber. You can trust that it'll stick around once you apply it—even if you're out partying all night long in Milan. Notes: Saffron, blackcurrant, rose, jasmine, ambergris, moss, dry amber, maltol, musk, cedar Size: 3.4 fl. oz. Glasshouse Fragrances rating: 4.7/5 stars An ELLE editor says: 'If you want to be on the receiving end of a plethora of compliments, this is the fragrance for you. Intertwining rose with saffron, this spicy floral lets you know it's polished, not square. Romantic with an edge—it's the perfect scent when you want to stand out at any occasion. Some say this is a Baccarat 540 dupe, which I disagree with—but it does give off that 'I am wealthy' aroma.' —Danielle James This fragrance marries the sweet scent of rose with the earthiness of vetiver and patchouli, and the truffle adds an inescapable muskiness. It's the kind of captivating perfume that will grab everyone's attention when you walk into a room. Notes: Rose, truffle, vetiver, patchouli, castoreum Size: 3.4 oz. Nordstrom rating: 5/5 stars An ELLE editor says: 'If I apply Frédéric Malle's Rose Tonnerre in the morning, I find myself taking whiffs of my wrists all day long. It draws you in with the sparkling aroma of rose petals, but what I find more interesting is how the other elements of the perfume remind you of the soil in which a rose bush takes root. It's complex, it's gorgeous, it's everything a fragrance should be and more.' —Carol Lee À La Rose is sweet but not cloying, floral but not powdery. It's essentially a bouquet of roses and other flowers distilled into a luxurious glass bottle; the crisp scent is kept grounded by the cedarwood and musk that also snuck into the mix. A truly contemporary-feeling take on the rose perfume. Notes: Damascena rose from Bulgaria, Centifolia rose from Grasse, Calabrian bergamot, Californian orange, violet, magnolia, blossom, cedarwood, musk Size: 1.1 oz. Neiman Marcus rating: 4.7/5 stars An ELLE editor says: 'A la Rose is a soft, beautiful, scent that reminds you of rose petals scattered across a bed with white linens. When it dries down, you get a little brightness, like an afternoon pick me up from a cup of coffee—thanks to the citrusy base notes. It's a rose perfume, not overwhelmingly so—and the scent is long lasting.' —Danielle James Rose and aquatic perfumes attract strong reactions, both bad and good, and this fragrance bravely melds the two. It's one that recalls D.S. & Durga's co-founder David Seth Moltz's favorite summer destination: seaside in New England. Notes: Bergamot, petals, lemon oil, linden, rose accord, dune grass, muscone, salt water, white moss Size: 1.7 oz. Nordstrom rating: 3.5/5 stars An ELLE editor says: 'I imagine the person wearing this perfume to be sitting by the sea in a white linen ensemble, sipping tea as a vase of light pink roses sits beside them. I aspire to be that person.' —Carol Lee The creator of Kilian Paris, Kilian Hennessy, is a direct descendant of Richard Hennessy, who founded the Hennessy cognac company. Hennessey conceived The Liquors collection to pay homage to his family, and the rose fragrance in the lineup draws inspiration from gin. It smells sharp and fresh long after it first lands on your skin. Notes: Cucumber, juniper berries, rose Sephora rating: 4.3/5 stars An ELLE editor says: 'As our digital beauty director Danielle James pointed out, this fragrance reminds you of stems of just-bought roses briefly taken out of their vase. I'd say the name is pretty accurate, too; the scent is refreshing, like the first sip of an ice-cold drink.' —Carol Lee Fruity and floral, Bond No. 9's New York-inspired perfume is as bright as a twinkling star. Yet it sits close to the skin, thanks to its musk base. And those who aren't the biggest fans of gourmands, don't be discouraged by the note of vanilla—it somehow completely avoids the pitfall of being sickly sweet. Notes: Lychee, apricot, red apple, rose essence, watermelon, rose absolute, cedarwood essence, vanilla, musk Neiman Marcus rating: 5/5 stars An ELLE editor says: 'I can't quite place why, but each time I spray on this perfume, I'm overcome with a wave of nostalgia. Fruity perfumes aren't usually my thing, yet this one's a very special exception. If I didn't have so many fragrances in my collection, I'd want to smell like this all the time.' —Carol Lee This beauty from Narciso Rodriguez has all the makings of an alluring fragrance. As its name suggests, the scent is led by the sensual combination of rose and musk, but its true depth reveals itself when it dries down—the bottom notes of vanilla, suede leather, and patchouli linger behind for the rest of the day. Notes: Bergamot, musc, tuberose, vanilla, suede leather, patchouli Size: 3.3 oz. Saks Fifth Avenue rating: 5/5 stars An ELLE editor says: 'As someone who loves musk, rose, and any scent Narciso Rodriguez produces, Musc Noir Rose is a perfect storm for me. There was no way I wouldn't fall for it, and yet I was surprised by how captivating it was. If you already adore Musc Noir and want to try your hand at a rose perfume, this will be the gateway scent for you.' —Carol Lee Hèrmes' Rose Ikebana should come with a warning label—people will most likely come up to you and pester you with questions about what you're wearing. The moniker comes from ikebana, a centuries-old Japanese practice of constructing bouquets of flowers to create sculpture-like arrangements, while the scent is meant to evoke a dew-drenched rose. Notes: Rose, rhubarb Bloomingdale's rating: 5/5 stars An ELLE editor says: 'Fragrances from Hèrmes never disappoint, and this is no exception. It's so long lasting and smells like a floral tea—my favorite kind, next to barley. You just feel expensive wearing it.' —Carol Lee Tom Ford's own private rose garden inspired this warm blend—combining Turkish and Bulgarian roses with patchouli, Sichuan pepper, and cabbage. Like many of his other fragrances, there's an edge to Rose Prick; it's unlike any rose perfume we've smelled before. Notes: Rose de Mai, Bulgarian rose, Sichuan pepper Sephora rating: 4.2/5 stars An ELLE editor says: 'The Sichuan pepper in this sneaks up on you like it does in your favorite spicy Sichuan dish—it's almost like it's not there, and then it hits you when you're least expecting it. It's always a delight when a scent can surprise in that way.' —Carol Lee This mysterious scent is exactly what I imagine Victoria Beckham to smell like: peppery, slightly floral, with a hint of smokey tobacco. If you were a friend in the market for a going out perfume, it's definitely what I'd recommend. Notes: Black cherry, red peppercorn, saffron, Centifolia rose, midnight violet, narcotic musk flower, patchouli fraction, labdanum, black leather, tobacco leaves Size: 1.69 oz. Neiman Marcus rating: 4.6/5 stars An ELLE editor says: 'If I'm being honest with myself, intense fragrances like these aren't typically my vibe. But Suite 302 makes me want to become its vibe. One whiff of it and I'm ready to throw a tailored black leather jacket over my shoulders, slip into a pair of black pumps, and waste the night away in a dimly lit cocktail bar on the Lower East Side.' —Carol Lee Jo Malone doesn't beat around the (rose) bush—its permanent rose perfume hits you with the aroma of roses straight out of the gate, and the addition of lemon gives this classic rose perfume a luminosity that can't be ignored. The brand's scents are designed to be layered, so you can add more complexity by creating your own aromatic cocktail. Notes: Lemon, scarlet velvet rose, honeycomb Size: 1 oz. Sephora rating: 4.1/5 stars An ELLE editor says: 'This was my signature perfume all throughout college; in fact, I think I bought my first bottle during the first week of school my freshman year. It served me well throughout those years. That's not to say that it's juvenile in any way—I recently revisited it, and it's as delicious as I remembered. I gladly added it back into my rotation.' —Carol Lee The original Miss Dior contained notes of rose, but the romantic flower takes center stage in this rendition. Its adorable bow-adorned bottle houses hints of citrus and musk too, which work in harmony to enhance the freshness and femininity of the scent. Notes: Grasse rose absolue, Italian mandarin, white musk accord A Sephora reviewer says: 'Love. Love. LOVE! This perfume has gotten me so many compliments. It's the perfect amount of floral and musk. Definitely a perfect perfume for a night out on the town!' Autumne West is the national beauty director at Nordstrom. Jessie Dawes is the chief marketing officer for Diptyque Americas. Dawes recommends looking inwards first. 'Understanding what you love about fragrances and what draws you in is the best place to start,' he explains. Then, you can get down to business: 'The best way to discover a new perfume is to go in-store to test and sample the fragrance on you. All perfumes initially smell a certain way but will dry down a bit differently as you wear it, which can help you determine if you truly love it,' West says. It's always a good idea to test as many as you can before settling on the one you choose to buy. Dawes explains, 'A great way to layer rose perfumes is to first determine how prominent you'd like the rose scent to be. If you want rose to really shine, I recommend adding it as your final step in your fragrance layering, almost as though you're adding a velvety and smooth veil to your personal scent. Rose is a universal and often recognizable scent that complements most things—we love to pair Diptyque's Eau Rose with Diptyque's Eau Duelle, layered on top for a floral gourmand expression that evokes the spirit of a Parisian patisserie.' But at the end of the day, there's no real pressure to layer your scent if you're more of a one-and-done kind of person—especially with rose perfumes. 'I find a lot of fragrances that have rose are already paired perfectly with the other notes within the scent, therefore it is great on its own! However, layering is always an option with no set rules. Fragrance is personal, so it is best to try out combinations until you create the version that is right for you. Rose pairs well with a bright note like citrus or tea, or alternatively with a hint of spice.' Essentially, the best way to figure it out is to play around until you find a combination that you personally enjoy. It's a resounding yes from our experts. 'There are varieties within the rose scent category, and each one smells differently based on the region the rose note comes from. For example, tuberose-based scents can be warm and heavy with a hint of musk, while a more traditional rose will tend to be light, sweet, and of course very floral,' West says. There's so much variety that even if you like to change up your scent each season, you'll be able to find a perfume for each one. 'Roses are beloved, and the iconic nature of the flower and its scent makes it palatable all year round,' Dawes adds.
