PM: Migrants cannot be allowed in

Budapest Times17-07-2025
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said migrants cannot be allowed in, and they should not be privileged by a legal status.
In an interview on Monday, the prime minister said, 'we are doomed' if they entered, and 'there is no way back'.
Before the migrant crisis, Germany 'was the strongest state in Europe, but migration destroyed it', he said in the Pikk Extra programme streamed on daily newspaper Magyar Nemzet's YouTube channel.
Some may argue that migration did not drain Europe of its competitiveness, 'but that things are interconnected', he said, adding that German identity 'was shaken when they took in so many migrants … and said that Islam is part of German culture.'
'We must learn from this mistake,' he said. 'The Germany that existed before they were allowed in is over, because this is now their Germany too,' he added.
PM Orbán said he was 'upset' about the issue since 'I'm usually a gentle person; even pious, and I try to agree with everyone'. Nevertheless, he added, migrants 'cannot be allowed here and can never be accepted; they must not be given any legal status because … there [would be] no way back.'

PM's Political Director: Neoliberal world order is over

Balazs Orbán, the prime minister's political director, said the neoliberal world order is over, as it has failed to fulfil the promise of peace and prosperity. Speaking in Baile Tusnad (Tusnadfurdo), in central Romania, on Wednesday, Orbán added that, like Hungary, several countries were turning to sovereignty, traditional values and Christian Democracy. Speaking at a podium discussion on the changing world order at the 34th Balvanyos Summer Open University and Student Camp, Balazs Orbán said that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's speech at the event 11 years ago where he said democracy did not necessarily have to be based on the dominant liberal, progressive global ideology had turned out to be a 'prophecy'. The political director said there were various theories as to what the new world order would look like, but it was certain that there would be a transitional period which could last even decades. He said the transition to a new global order was dangerous when it had to be handled by politicians who managed it poorly, which could not only threaten the success of their own country, but could even lead to a third world war. This had to be avoided at all costs, Orbán added. He urged a form of international cooperation in which competing global powers did not force other countries to line up behind them. Hungary, he said, was now capable of maintaining good relations with both the United States and China. Lord David Frost, member of the House of Lords and visiting fellow at the Danube Institute, said the United States had forced progressivism and liberalism onto the world through the United Nations and other international institutions, as well as via development funds tied to the progressive agenda, but it was now clear that a new world order was taking shape. Marwan Abdallah, vice chairman of Lebanon's International Democracy Union and the foreign affairs leader of the Kataeb Party, said his country did not have the luxury of refusing foreign assistance even if it came with ideological conditions attached. He said smaller states had a vested interest in the success of large international institutions, but they did not want these institutions to force their will on them.

Prime minister meets UAE President during his first official visit to Hungary

During the visit, Hungary signed 14 agreements with the UAE that will create new opportunities in the two countries' relations. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met President of the United Arab Emirates Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during his first official visit to Hungary in Budapest on Thursday. During the visit, Hungary signed 14 agreements with the UAE that will create new opportunities in the two countries' relations, primarily in the areas of energy, agriculture and food industry, defence industry, telecommunications and new technologies, the statement said. The Ministry for National Economy signed three agreements with the UAE, including one on finding new investment opportunities with the global investment company Mubadala, and one on identifying opportunities for cooperation with the UAE Ministry of Investment involving data centres and artificial intelligence projects. Energy links are expected to intensify as a result of Hungary's Energy Ministry signing an agreement with the UAE's Ministry of Investment and the Masdar company on cooperation in the area of green and renewable energy, and storage capacities for renewable energy. An agreement between the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture and the UAE's Ministry of Investment is expected to give new impetus to cooperation in the food industry and agriculture, helping Hungarian technologies reach a market in the UAE. The Ministry of Public Administration and Regional Development signed an agreement with the UAE's Ministry of Cabinet Affairs on sharing government development and modernisation experiences, and the Ministry of Culture and Innovation signed a memorandum of understanding with the UAE Ministry of Family on deepening cooperation in family and youth policies. In addition to government agreements, cooperation between companies in the two countries will also be expanded. On the sidelines of the visit, the Budapest Stock Exchange and the Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange signed a cooperation agreement.
