‘The Last of Us' Season 3 confirmed With Kaitlyn Dever in lead role

The Hindu11-06-2025
HBO's The Last of Us is officially moving forward with a third season, and creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have confirmed that Kaitlyn Dever will lead the next chapter of the acclaimed adaptation.
Speaking at a For Your Consideration (FYC) event in Los Angeles celebrating Season 2, the showrunners revealed key insights into the creative direction of the upcoming season. Dever, who plays Abby, a controversial figure in the video game series, will step into a central role. Her involvement had been widely speculated following the events of Season 2, where her character makes a dramatic entrance by killing Pedro Pascal's fan-favourite Joel.
'It's more of a water season than a fire season,' Druckmann said during the panel, hinting at a tonal and visual shift from earlier episodes. Mazin added that 'it's a wetter season than a hotter season,' suggesting the next installment will explore different landscapes and challenges.
Dever, currently filming in Australia, appeared virtually during the panel discussion. Reflecting on the backlash Abby's character has received in the games, she said, 'The controversy surrounding Abby was never really a concern for me. I've never felt so carried on a set in my life.' She added that working with Druckmann and Mazin made her confident in taking on the role.
The creators also addressed the risky narrative choices made so far, including Joel's early death in Season 2. 'I think plot armor is a real problem,' said Mazin. 'In a show where we try and keep things grounded, sometimes the people we can't imagine losing do die. Because this is not a show about revenge, but about about grief.'
Season 3 does not yet have a confirmed release date, but production is expected to continue into next year. The show, adapted from the acclaimed PlayStation games, remains one of HBO's highest-profile series.

Netflix cancels Arnold Schwarzenegger's Fubar following underwhelming Season 2 viewership despite star power

Arnold Schwarzenegger's spy action series 'Fubar' will not be returning for a third season on Netflix, the streamer confirmed, a little over a month after Season 2 debuted on June 12. The decision comes after what was described as a surprisingly soft return for the show. Though the first season launched with significant buzz in May 2023—buoyed by Schwarzenegger's global popularity—its second season failed to capture similar momentum. Monica Barbaro, who co-stars as Schwarzenegger's on-screen daughter Emma and became an Oscar nominee in between seasons for 'A Complete Unknown', also returned for Season 2. Season 2, released more than two years after Season 1, managed only a brief appearance in Netflix's English-language Top 10. During its launch weekend, the show earned 2.2 million views, a steep drop from the 11 million views that greeted its premiere season. It peaked at #7 in its first full week with 3.3 million views and barely held onto the #10 spot in Week 3 with 1.8 million, before vanishing from the rankings. The story of 'Fubar' centres on CIA operative Luke Brunner (Schwarzenegger) and his daughter Emma (Barbaro), who each lead double lives while unknowingly working for the same agency. Luke Brunner and his daughter Emma have lied to each other for years, with neither of them knowing that the other is a CIA operative.' The cancellation places 'Fubar' among a short list of Netflix originals dropped in 2025, including 'The Recruit', 'Pulse', and 'The Residence'. Nevertheless, the platform has renewed around 20 scripted series this year alone, with recent greenlights for 'Untamed' Season 2, 'Tires' Season 3, 'Ransom Canyon' Season 2, and 'Virgin River' Season 8.

In-laws crashing honeymoons? New travel trend blurs lines between awkward and familial

Honeymoon is the first chapter in a married couple's life, kickstarting their journey with a dreamy, romantic getaway. But this much-anticipated trip is getting turned into a full-blown family vacation with in-laws and even siblings tagging along. Instead of intimate couples massage therapies, honeymoons are slowly becoming awkward with uncomfortable dinner table conversations and day sightseeing with family. Honeymoon is meant for a private moment for the married couple. But when parents crash honeymoon, it leaves no space for intimacy.(Shutterstock) ALSO READ: Sleeping in separate beds as a couple? Relationship expert shares what it really means White Lotus anyone? HBO's White Lotus series, which follows the staff and guests at a luxury resort, taps into a similar shock factor: the big punch in the gut when Rachel Patton's mother-in-law, Kitty Patton, shows up uninvited on honeymoon to surprise them. The mother was so obsessed with her son, Shane, that she crashed their honeymoon. Redditors shared their experience on r/WhiteLotusHBO about how they, too, experienced or witnessed a similar awkward situation. Recounting the awkward horror story, one user commented, 'My first wedding was in Vegas and I kid you not, at the hotel my MIL (mother-in-law) was somehow assigned not only the room next door, but an adjoining room - as in there was direct access from one room to the other.' Again, it is not just parents, but siblings too, as they unexpectedly come along. One user wrote,'I was 5 months pregnant on my honeymoon so we only went to the coast for a few days but my husband invited his brother so they could go fishing.' Sometimes, the couple is also helpless, as another person recalled their naighbour's experiece, 'I had a neighbor whose Mother-in-Law and Father-in-Law went on their honeymoon with them. They felt they could because they gifted the couple their honeymoon to Hawaii. Such a strange, odd, family.' This shows the unexpected obligation that can come with accepting grand gestures, like funding the honeymoon, but at the cost of personal time and space. Why is this harmful? This is a particularly harmful concept when couples are not fully in agreement about having parents in. Sometimes they do it out of obligation or feel pressured. A report of Fox News Digital covered the insights of Thea Gallagher, a psychologist and the wellness programs director at NYU Langone Health in New York City, who called it an 'interesting concept'. She said, 'I think it probably depends on your relationship with your parents and your agreement with your partner. Obviously, it would be important for both of you to be in agreement that this is the good choice.' Further, Gallagher explained that in-laws tagging along can cause several issues, from overstepping boundaries with no personal space to unsolicited advice. It also causes loyalty conflicts where one partner feels conflicted about whom to spend time with their newly married spouse or parents. She also added that cultural gaps and poor communication escalate the tension, making it a task for the couple to spend time peacefully.
