Iran's judiciary has filed 50 cases in Tehran against individuals accused of collaborating with Israel, judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir said Saturday, pledging rapid prosecution and no tolerance for those facing charges.
'Close cooperation and coordination between law enforcement and the judiciary led to the formation of around 50 cases in Tehran within less than two weeks,' Jahangir said during a press conference. He added that the charges include 'rumor-mongering' and creating 'public anxiety,' per a report by Iran International.

Jahangir said the judiciary would not permit delays in the legal process. 'We will show no leniency,' he said. 'We will not allow these cases to be dragged out.'
According to the spokesman, 32 online accounts had been flagged. Most owners edited their content after receiving warnings and avoided formal charges. However, ten individuals were charged, with some remaining in custody and others released on bail.
He also said several individuals had been arrested on espionage charges, although court rulings had yet to be issued. 'Some have been informed of their charges as spies, but until a court ruling is issued, no one can be legally labeled a spy,' Jahangir said.
He declined to say how many were charged with spying for Israel. 'Every one of these traitors holds valuable information that must be extracted thoroughly before any sentencing,' he added. 'This process is essential for identifying others involved.'
Casualties after Evin prison airstrike
Jahangir also addressed the aftermath of an Israeli airstrike on Tehran's Evin prison. He confirmed that five inmates convicted of financial crimes were killed, with others injured in the attack.
'All prisoners were relocated to other facilities within hours,' he said, rejecting reports that some detainees were missing or unable to contact their families.
Jahangir acknowledged that a few inmates escaped during the chaos. 'A few took advantage of the situation and fled, but the number is not significant. They will be recaptured and returned,' he said.

At least 31 Palestinians in Gaza fatally shot on their way to aid distribution site; 28 killed in Israeli airstrikes

DEIR AL-BALAH: At least 31 Palestinians were fatally shot on their way to an aid distribution site in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, while Israeli airstrikes killed at least 28 Palestinians including four children, Palestinian hospital officials and witnesses said. The deaths came after no signs of a breakthrough in ceasefire talks following two days of meetings between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump had said he was closing in on an agreement between Israel and Hamas that would potentially wind down the war. The 31 shot dead were on their way to a distribution site run by the Israeli-backed American organization Gaza Humanitarian Foundation near Rafah in southern Gaza, hospital officials and witnesses said. The Red Cross said its field hospital saw its largest influx of dead in more than a year of operation after the shootings, and that the overwhelming majority of the more than 100 people hurt had gunshot wounds. The airstrikes in central Gaza's Deir al-Balah killed 13 including the four children, officials at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital said. Fifteen others were killed in Khan Younis in the south, according to Nasser Hospital. Israel's military did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Intense airstrikes continued Saturday evening in the area of Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza.

'Fighter jets hit 35 Hamas targets...': Israeli army releases video of strikes in Beit Hanoun of Gaza

The Israeli army on Saturday (July 12) released video it said shows strikes on targets in Beit Hanoun, Gaza. Posting on social media website X, the Israeli army said in a caption accompanying the video that "several fighter jets" hit 35 Hamas targets in the area. Progress is stalling at talks aimed at securing a ceasefire in Gaza, with the sides divided over the extent of Israeli forces' withdrawal from the Palestinian enclave, Palestinian and Israeli sources familiar with the negotiations in Doha said earlier on Saturday. Considering US offer to restart nuclear talks, says Iran minister

File photo: Iran's foreign minister (Picture credit: AP) Iran's foreign minister said the US is trying to revive nuclear talks with Tehran while stressing that his country is in no hurry to resume negotiations. "The Americans insist on returning to the negotiating table," Abbas Araghchi said in televised remarks Saturday, adding that Iran has received "multiple messages." Tehran is weighing its options regarding the timing, location, and structure of potential talks, but is "in no rush to enter into reckless negotiations. " Araghchi served as lead negotiator in Oman-mediated talks with the US, which collapsed after Israel launched a surprise attack on Iran's nuclear sites on June 13. The strikes killed several top military and nuclear officials, and hit densely populated urban areas as well as Tehran's Evin Prison. Araghchi's remarks follow US President Donald Trump's Monday dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where he said he was open to lifting sanctions on Iran. His special envoy, Steve Witkoff, who led the US delegation in the earlier talks, said a meeting with Iran was expected within the week. Araghchi also said Iran needs guarantees it won't be attacked again if the talks don't succeed.
