Jim Harbaugh added to lawsuit in Matt Weiss phone hacking scandal

New York Post2 days ago

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh was named as a defendant on Friday in one of multiple ongoing lawsuits against the University of Michigan.
The newest lawsuit is an amended class-action complaint that was filed by 11 women accusing former Michigan offensive coordinator Matt Weiss of hacking into their personal accounts and taking personal photos. It also names current Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel as a defendant.
The Detroit News first reported the update Friday.
The original lawsuit, filed on March 21, alleges that Weiss viewed private information of the school's female students between Dec. 21-23, 2022.

Harbaugh, who served as head coach of Michigan's football program from 2015-23, failed to act to protect students, the lawsuit alleges.
'Naming Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and Athletic Director Warde Manuel in this complaint reflects our belief that leadership at the highest levels either knew of these threats or deliberately ignored them, prioritizing athletic prestige and profit over the safety and dignity of students,' one of the women's lawyers, Parker Stinar, told the Detroit News in a statement.
The lawsuit also alleges that Michigan officials let Weiss coach in the 2022 Fiesta Bowl despite knowing that he hacked into the personal accounts of female athletes at the university.
'In this way, the university placed profits before people, particularly women and female student athletes,' lawyers for the women wrote in the lawsuit.

This newest lawsuit is one of at least 13 civil cases filed against Weiss by lawyers who represent over 80 female athletes across the nation.
The allegations against the former Ravens assistant coach surfaced three months after he was federally indicted and accused of illegally obtaining access to a database of college athletes at more than 100 universities that was maintained by a third-party company.
Weiss then allegedly downloaded the personal information of over 150,000 individuals and ultimately gained access to their social media, email and cloud storage accounts of at least 3,000 athletes.
With this access, Weiss allegedly downloaded intimate digital photos and videos 'that were never intended to be shared beyond intimate partners,' federal prosecutors said.

Michigan man, 24, electrocuted, falls 30 feet from boom lift, police say

A 24-year-old Wayland, Michigan, man died after coming into contact with live electrical lines and falling 30 feet from a boom lift Saturday in Ludington, according to police. Ludington police responded to the area of West Ludington Avenue and Robert Street around 10:15 a.m. Saturday, for a report of a person being electrocuted and falling off a building. When officers arrived, they found the man unresponsive and not breathing. Ludington police, along with members of the Mason County Sheriff's Office and two bystanders, attempted lifesaving efforts until firefighters and paramedics arrived. The man was taken to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said. Police say the man was operating a boom lift when, for unknown reasons, the lift and the man came into contact with live electrical lines, causing the man to fall approximately 30 feet. The man was employed by a gutter installation company based in the Ada area, according to police, and they are investigating the incident as a fatal industrial accident. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Jacob Miller at 231-843-3425 or miller209@

'Attempting to live his own grand theft auto': Pontiac boy, 12, arrested for stealing cars

A 12-year-old boy from Pontiac was arrested Friday for stealing cars from a Pontiac business, according to police. The boy reportedly entered numerous vehicles in the parking lot on June 27, and when he was apprehended, he was carrying a license plate, according to a news release by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. Detectives say the boy had taken three or four vehicles over the last month, selling at least one of them for $30, according to police. 'This young man is on a very bad path, attempting to live his own grand theft auto,' Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in the news release. 'Hopefully intervention by the courts will send him on a better life path as well as stopping the constant theft from this business.' The boy is being held in Oakland County Children's Village, and the case remains under investigation, according to police. 1 killed, 2 injured after Jeep rolls over on I-94 in Detroit, police say

One person died and two others were injured after two Jeeps collided on westbound I-94 Saturday evening, Michigan State Police said. The crash happened at around 7:10 p.m. Saturday on westbound I-94 near Gratiot Avenue when the driver of a silver Jeep in the left lane and the driver of a green Jeep in the center lane attempted to change lanes at the same time and collided, MSP said. The collision caused the driver of the silver Jeep to strike a median wall and roll over, while the driver of the green Jeep went up the right embankment and struck a tree, police said. A passenger in the silver Jeep, a 27-year-old St. Clair Shores man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger of the silver Jeep were taken to an area hospital and treated for minor injuries, police said. The driver of the green Jeep, who was the lone occupant, was not injured. The freeway was closed for about four hours for an investigation, according to troopers. "Troopers are continuing the investigation into this crash," said MSP Lt. Mike Shaw. "We want to remind drivers to be careful when changing lanes. Make sure you use your turn signal, check your mirrors and blind spots, and then start to change lanes."
