MB: S'gor water plan in the pipeline
The master plan, which includes a long-term flood control system, will also function as a guideline to deal with both dry and rainy seasons, said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
'Too little water means supply issues; too much means floods. This master plan will look comprehensively into both aspects,' he said.
The plan is scheduled to be completed within a year, he told reporters yesterday after the handover ceremony of the Raw Water Guarantee Scheme (SJAM) Package A and C project to Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd.
Amirudin said that more than 100 water catchment ponds have been identified throughout Selangor, with most of them currently being gazetted as storage areas.
He said SJAM, which will be part of the master plan, is meant to ensure sufficient water supply for the next 50 years at least.
Amirudin said the two packages would guarantee continuous water supply to four million residents in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
He said that RM320mil has been spent on SJAM to ensure water supply to 1.2 million consumer accounts.

SHAH ALAM, July 15 (Bernama) -- Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has once again emphasised that the appointment of Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd as the operator to handle the implementation of the Smart Intelligent Parking System (SIP) was made through an open tender. He said the appointment of the company by the Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporated) or MBI was made after the Request for Proposal (RFP) was issued and a proper evaluation was conducted involving 26 interested companies. 'Upon receiving the applications, the MBI then conducted a proper verification or screening process and submitted the list of eligible candidates to the state government. 'MBI prioritises the state's interests at the forefront and does not hand over control in its entirety to any party,' he said after the 2025 Selangor Platform Strategic Partner Synergy and Appreciation Ceremony (PLATS) here today. The menteri besar was addressing concerns raised on the legality of privatising public car parks, whether privatisation is allowed (under the Road Transport Act 1987) as public car parks are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport and local councils (PBT) are delegated to manage, enforce and collect parking fees, under Section 72 of the Road Transport Act 1987. Previously, the media reported that the SIP is to streamline the parking fee collection system across all local authorities to be more systematic and efficient in line with the Smart Selangor initiative. The first phase, which begins on Aug 1, involves four local authorities, namely Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and Selayang Municipal Council (MPS). Among the main objectives of the implementation of the system is to raise parking fee compliance, which is currently only around a weak 30 per cent, as well as reduce issues such as double parking and lack of enforcement. The collection proceeds will be divided by 40 per cent to the PBT, 10 per cent to MBI and 50 per cent to the concessionaire company, which handles parking fee collection and enforcement.

Selangor Targets 100,000 Entrepreneurs Joining Plats By End Of Year
SHAH ALAM, July 15 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government aims to get 100,000 entrepreneurs to participate in the Platform Selangor (PLATS) programme by the end of this year, by focusing on expanding participation to traders of wet and dry goods in public markets. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said this is aimed at attracting more entrepreneurs to be involved in the digital ecosystem through the programme under the supervision of the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI). He added that, so far, about 88,000 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) had registered with PLATS, thus exceeding its stipulated target of 50,000 participants this year. "We will try to add more benefits, privileges to attract new entrepreneurs to join PLATS, in addition to empowering those who have already joined the initiative, including through digital transformation that has been implemented for the traders involved. "In Selangor, we still have many traders, hawkers, stalls that we can approach. One example is the method we implemented at the Section 6 Market and, if this project is successful, we can expand it to many more markets which come under other local authorities,' he said. He told reporters this after officiating the 2024/2025 PLATS Strategic Partner Synergy and Appreciation Programme here today. Amirudin said PLATS, which is currently in the consolidation phase, needs to expand the involvement of all fields of entrepreneurship or traders compared to just focusing on eateries, restaurants, hawkers and night markets previously. To further enhance the platform, he said they have forged a strategic collaboration with six new synergy partners - Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (Pernas), MYNIC Berhad, Selangor Technical Skill Development Centre (STDC), SIRIM Berhad, Media Selangor Sdn Bhd and Red Giant Creative House Sdn Bhd. PLATS was introduced during Ramadan 2022, when the country implemented the Movement Control Order (MCO), to assist hawkers, micro traders and entrepreneurs adapt to the digital economic environment, in addition to overcoming economic challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
