Former PKL Champion Akash Shinde ready to chase glory with Bengaluru Bulls

India Gazettea day ago
Bengaluru, (Karnataka) [India] July 4 (ANI): Growing up in the small town of Nashik, Akash Shinde had big dreams but no clear path to follow. No one from his district had ever made it to national-level kabaddi before him.
But now, the Pro Kabaddi League season 10 champion, who was bought by Bengaluru Bulls for INR 53.10 lakh during the PKL 12 Player Auction, is ready to lead a young team towards glory, according to a release from PKL.
'No one in my family played kabaddi. It was more popular in my village, but no one from my district, Nashik, had played at the national level before. That made it a real challenge. Still, I trusted my process and kept working hard,' says Shinde, remembering those early days when success seemed far away.
The journey wasn't easy. Every step forward meant figuring things out on his own. 'Step by step, I kept finding out what improvements should be made in the game and how to develop. I kept working on that and kept moving forward,' he explains.
Now, looking at his new teammates at Bengaluru Bulls, Shinde sees the same hunger he once had, comparing it to another Bengaluru-based sports team that ended a long trophy drought -- the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
'I am feeling very good. It's a new and young team. The way RCB won with a young team, we will win the PKL too. There is a lot of excitement. The young boys have a clear mindset that they just have to prove themselves,' he added.
The need to prove yourself - Shinde knows it well. He felt it during his heartbreaking loss with Puneri Paltan in Season 9, when they lost to Jaipur Pink Panthers by just 2-3 points. But that pain made the victory sweeter in PKL 10, while also captaining his team in the absence of the injured skipper, Aslam Inamdar.
'When I was in Puneri Paltan, we lost to Jaipur Pink Panthers by 2-3 points in season 9. We put in a lot of hard work in the next season and became the champions,' he recalls. 'So, obviously, those kinds of things provide you with experience and help you maintain composure during crunch situations.'
That championship win changed everything. It proved that all the hard work was worth it. Now, as he watches his young Bulls teammates, Shinde sees that same determination in their eyes. And behind every successful player is a coach who believes in them. For Shinde, that's BC Ramesh, with whom he won the PKL back in the landmark 10th season.
'He is strict on the ground only. He treats all of us like his kids, like family members,' Shinde says warmly. Having someone who cares about you like family makes all the difference in a tough sport.'
Shinde's success story means something bigger than personal glory. He opened doors for others from his region. 'We have some very good players in Maharashtra. The skill level is very high, and that's the reason why we get some of the finest players from the state. The competition is very tough,' he concluded with pride. (ANI)

Sanju Samson returns to Kerala Cricket with record-breaking KCL signing

ANI Published 5 Jul 2025, 06:27 PM IST Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], July 5 (ANI): Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson made a record-breaking return to the Kerala cricket circuit following his omission from last season's Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT), as he became the most expensive signing at the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) auction for a record ₹ 26.60 lakhs, being picked up by Kochi Blue Tigers, reported ESPNCricinfo on Saturday. This will be Samson's first competitive appearance since the conclusion of a disappointing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, in which he scored 285 runs in nine matches at an average of 35.62 and a strike rate of over 140, with a half-century to his name. His team finished at number nine, winning just four and losing 10 and failing to finish their games well. Samson missed a chunk of the season due to a side strain. The KCL will mark Samson's first appearance in the Kerala circuit since he was last omitted from the VHT squad for not attending a preparation camp leading up to it. While the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) stated that they wanted to set a precedent, Samson claimed to have written to the board asking for permission to miss the camp. Named as the brand ambassador of the league, Samson missed the first-ever season of KCL due to international commitments last year. He has solidified his spot in T20Is for India, smashing three centuries against Bangladesh and South Africa last year. In 42 T20Is, he has made 861 runs at an average of 25.32, with three centuries and two fifties and a best score of 111. Last year, in 13 T20Is and 12 innings at an average of 43.60, with a strike rate of 180.16, three centuries and a fifty. The inaugural edition of the league came into focus during the IPL this year as the teenage left-arm spinner Vignesh Puthur was signed by five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) for ₹ 30 lakhs after fine performances in trials. He was also taken to South Africa, where he was the net bowler for MI Cape Town in the SA20 season three. Signed for ₹ 3.75 lakh during the first edition, Puthur's services were retained by Alleppey Ripples for the second edition. In his debut IPL, Puthur picked up six wickets in five matches for MI. Sanju Samson Becomes Kerala Cricket Leagues Most Expensive Player, Picked By Kochi Blue Tigers For THIS Whopping Amount

India wicket-keeper batter and Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson became the most expensive player in the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) history on Saturday. Samson was picked by Kochi Blue Tigers for Rs. 26.8 lakh at the Kerala Cricket League auction, on June 5. Samson, who was listed at a base price of Rs 3 lakh, saw exponential jumps to Rs 5 lakh and 10 lakh in a matter of moments. The intense bidding war for Sanju eventually ended with a record signing by Kochi Blue Tigers, who spent more than half of their INR 50 lakh purse to add India wicket-keeper in their squad. With this, the 30-year-old Samson broke the previous auction record of Kerala Cricket League (KCL). He surpassed the previous price tag of Rs. 7.4 lakh, paid by Trivandrum Royals for M.S. Akhil. After Samson, Vishnu Vinod received the second-highest bid, picked up by Aries Kollam for Rs 13.8 lakh while veteran all-rounder Jalaj Saxena was roped in by Alleppey Ripples for Rs 12.4 lakh. Notably, this will be the first appearance for Sanju in the Kerala Cricket League's after missing the inaugural edition of the tournament last year despite being announced as its brand ambassador to prioritise his international commitments. Notably, this will be also Samson's first major appearance in a tournament overseen by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) since being dropped from the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad in December 2024 after failing to turn up for a preparatory camp held in Wayanad. Samson was last seen in action during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. During the IPL 2025 season, Sanju played only nine matches due to injury and scored 285 runs at a strike rate of 140.39 with just one half-century as Rajasthan Royals finished ninth in the 10-team table.

The Sidney Crosby trade buzz grows louder again after the 2026 Olympics prediction by an NHL insider

NHL-Sidney Crosby (Credit: Getty Images) The Pittsburgh Penguins may be at the beginning of a long rebuild, but Sidney Crosby's future remains uncertain. Despite extending his contract through 2027, speculation over a possible departure has only intensified following comments from veteran NHL insider Nick Kypreos. This aligns with growing chatter that suggests teams like the Montreal Canadiens or even the Colorado Avalanche could come calling. Montreal Canadiens emerge as predicted destination While trade rumors have often linked Sidney Crosby to the Colorado Avalanche, due to his long-standing friendship with Nathan MacKinnon, it was Kypreos' prediction of Montreal that truly caught fans off guard. Adding fuel to this, former Penguins player Georges Laraque also hinted at a potential Crosby trade during the first night of the recent NHL Draft. Laraque, now a Montreal-based radio host, pointed to the growing frustration within the Penguins fan base and front office about the team's trajectory. Sidney Crosby agent strongly denies trade rumors In contrast to the swirling speculation, Sidney Crosby's agent Pat Brisson was quick to shut things down. He called the rumours 'baseless' and reaffirmed that Crosby had no intention of leaving Pittsburgh. However, as the franchise enters uncertain territory and struggles to remain competitive, even the most loyal stars can be tested. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo If the Penguins fail to turn things around in the next season or two. Sidney Crosby is expected to represent once again Team Canada, possibly playing alongside MacKinnon, Connor Bedard, and other top-tier talent. What happens after that tournament could shape the final chapter of Crosby's storied career. For now, the noise is just speculation, but in a league where surprises are common, few are writing anything off. The Penguins' path forward, and Crosby's role in it, will remain one of the NHL's biggest storylines heading into 2026.
