Partly to mainly cloudy skies are here for Memorial Day afternoon, with below average highs in the lower 60s. Showers and some storms are possible during the second half of the day, wrapping up as we head past sunset.

Extra clouds linger tonight with some partial clearing. Overnight low temperatures will be seasonal, dipping to the middle 40s with a light wind.
Tuesday has much smaller chances for some afternoon showers or storms as Denver will see more sunshine and seasonal highs in the middle 70s. Wednesday's rain chances are higher with more cloud cover and slightly cooler highs in the upper 60s.
Thursday brings back some more sunshine, but Denver could still see some small storm chances with highs in low 70s.

How to prepare for severe weather at Red Rocks concerts
DENVER (KDVR) — Summer in Colorado means more nights outside, along with more chances for severe weather that could impact plans. The weather can change quickly, even after clear blue skies — Coloradans may have little warning for when severe weather may bring gusty winds and hail. Red Rocks geology: How the world's only acoustically perfect natural amphitheater was formed FOX31 asked viewers what tips they have for concertgoers to make the best of their experience at Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, and many mentioned preparing for various types of weather. Viewers recommend wearing layers as it gets cool once the sun sets, and bringing weather gear like a poncho in case it rains, as umbrellas are not allowed in the venue. Concertgoers should also prepare for the chance of hail. Viewers recommend bringing some kind of coverage like a blanket or a tarp; however, according to the Red Rocks website, items like large blankets and tarps are prohibited and will not be allowed past security. A spokesperson for Denver Arts and Venues explained that this is a common rule at many outdoor venues because fans use them to take up more space than is practical. Full list of concerts at Red Rocks in 2025 Instead, the spokesperson told FOX31 that the best protection for concertgoers is some form of shelter and offered the following statement: 'As with all other Denver venues, when a venue's security team directs fans to seek shelter, fans should do it — in buildings and, at Red Rocks, cars if accessible. The venue's Rave system (opt-in info texts for fans attending specific shows) provides fans with updates, alerts and re-entry information. At all outdoor venues, the best protection is shelter — not tarps, blankets or rain gear. Follow security's direction,' the spokesperson wrote in an email. When severe weather is incoming at Red Rocks, attendees are warned to take shelter. The screens will display a message warning attendees of the incoming conditions. Red Rocks explains how it warns people of severe weather Concertgoers are advised to head back to their vehicles for shelter; however, the trek can be a long one, depending on where they park. Attendees can also seek shelter at places like the Visitor Center and restrooms. Fans should keep their ticket stub with them for re-entry once an all-clear is issued. Hail coming down at Red Rocks resulted in dozens of injuries at a concert a couple of years ago. Attendees described hail coming 'out of nowhere,' sending fans running for shelter. Once the storm passed, an estimated 80 to 90 people were reportedly hurt, with seven hospitalized. Injuries included cuts and broken bones. The venue said it displayed warnings on the screens; however, attendees remained in the venue. Fans are encouraged to know where the closest exit or shelter is, stay updated on the Denver weather forecast and pay attention to warnings. The Red Rocks website also recommends preparing for adverse weather conditions, including full exposure to the sun, strong wind, severe rain or snow. Tuesday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day as gusty winds and hail are possible along the Front Range and Eastern Plains. Pinpoint Weather Chief Meteorologist Dave Fraser said storms should be east of Interstate 25 by 5 or 6 p.m. and will move out to the plains by 7 p.m., so the threat for storms at Red Rocks and during the Rockies game is expected to be gone, other than a trailing showers early in the evening. Denver weather: Why hot days have higher chances for hail, severe storms
DENVER (KDVR) — The hotter the temperatures, the higher the chances for large chunks of ice to come falling from the sky in Denver weather. Summer marks monsoon season for Colorado and some nearby southwestern states. It typically lasts from about mid-June to the end of September, with regular afternoon thunderstorms bringing wind, rain, lightning and hail. How to prepare for severe weather at Red Rocks concerts The storms bring a brief cooldown after warm daytime temperatures, and are likely to be more severe with hotter temperatures. FOX31 Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels explains that hotter temperatures create a more unstable environment in the atmosphere. Cold air sinks and settles, which creates a stable environment, while hot air rises, mixing up the air and creating an unstable environment. 'Hot air rises, cools and condenses, and it drops again, then you get air moving all around and it gets wild,' Michels said. One result is differences in temperature and pressure, which create the wind that comes with afternoon storms. Another result is hail. Michels explained that when storms roll over the foothills and clash with hot air along the Front Range, it brings in air cold enough to keep things freezing higher in the storm cloud. Meanwhile, air that has been heating all day near the ground keeps pushing moisture up. Denver weather: These clouds make it look like it is raining when it is dry Storms that were stable and may have brought light rain to the high country are then fueled by the heat at lower elevations along the Front Range, similar to how tropical storms and hurricanes are fueled by hot water. 'Technically, coming down in elevation is a warming, drying process, but if it warms, you're just heating the ground here still,' Michels said. 'So then it's gonna want to go back up, so then you're just creating this cycle kind of a thing, so that's kind of the easiest way to describe daily thunderstorms — with cold air coming up hot air coming up, and it's a prime environment for hail because it's definitely cold enough because we're coming off of the mountains,' Michels said. That is why Colorado experiences more frequent hail compared to other areas where monsoons are common. In fact, Michels said a lot of the precipitation that comes out of clouds, even at lower elevations, comes out frozen before it melts on the way down. Plowable hail in the summer? Why it's possible Water droplets that are below freezing but still in liquid form get pushed up and other droplets cling onto them. The droplets accumulate and the forming hailstone rises until it freezes, then it gets too heavy and starts falling again. This process can repeat multiple times before the hailstone falls to the ground. When the moisture freezes depends on how high the clouds are. Michels explained that a cloud can vary from 20 degrees below zero, to zero degrees, and 32 degrees in different layers of the atmosphere. The back-and-forth heating and cooling process that sends chunks of hail up and down creates visible layers in the hailstone that hits the ground. Coloradans should be prepared for the state's famous moody and unpredictable weather on any day. Even if it is warm with clear clouds in the morning, the heat could increase the chances for afternoon storms to become more severe. DENVER (KDVR) – Temperatures along the Front Range will be milder Wednesday, but strong storms are possible in the afternoon and early evening hours.
