Former Stars of ‘Teen Wolf' at Monte-Carlo TV Festival Reflect on L.A. Protests, ICE Raids and Upcoming No Kings Day Marches

I think that the media is unfortunately sensationalizing the scale of these events. A frame can isolate anything you want it to. The demonstrations are, for the most part, incredibly peaceful, celebratory.

'And I think L.A. – because of all of the traumas it's been through, especially in the past six months – like there's a real sense of community there. I hope that people wake up to the fact that this isn't only about immigration.
'Obviously, I think it's inhumane how people are being just sort of ripped off the street, but it's also about due process. I think it is going to be a big test. We'll find out today with the No Kings Day marches all over the United States about due process, constitutionalism, and I'm proud that L.A. is taking a stand on this.'
Holland Roden, who played Lydia in 'Teen Wolf,' observed, 'We've had a tough six months in L.A.,' referencing the fires and now the ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] raids and the protests but also looking further back than that to the strikes.
Roden was once detained by immigration officials in Brazil for 16 hours for a visa-related issue, but she pushed back firmly at any suggestion that that experience gave her any insight into how those being seized by ICE agents felt.
'As far as my detention in Brazil, I would say there's no comparison. I mean, what these people are going through … I mean, mine was a visa mistake that got sorted out, and it was kind of crazy. There were two fans, I think, that saw the situation go down with this customs guy, and it got blown out of proportion. And this customs guy was on a real power trip at work one day.
'I had been to Brazil, I think, three times on the same visa. No problems. So it was just like a weird coincidence that he was like, 'Something's wrong with your visa,' and I just was whisked away. I was definitely scared … you know what? … I wouldn't say I was scared, but I was, like, very confused to have all my rights taken away … taking away my computer, my phone, for 16 hours, sat in a room. They wouldn't give me a translator. They kept yelling at me in Portuguese. It was a really, like, unsettling experience, but I think, in my gut, I knew what was happening wasn't right, and it got sorted out. But, you know, these mistakes happen, and it's unfortunate.
'In America's case, some of these mistakes are like destroying families. You hear stories of people who have been deported that were citizens.
'There's no comparison between the two experiences, but government can be really scary across all nations, and I don't blame any Brazilian or American for their government's problems. Unfortunately, me travelling in the world, I've noticed government's one thing, and the people of this country are another, and I've never really convoluted the two. So, it's just a shame that, like, the governments in our world are just so urgh! … I mean, I think we can all relate to things that go down in the French government that you roll your eyes at. You know, we're the same in America.'

The graphic seemed to indicate that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainers in New York City have risen 400% since former President Joe Biden was in office. 'Clearly, there's a new sheriff in town,' Scott said. Mace agreed before adding the fun little tidbit that she's proposed a new bill to 'defund and take tax breaks' away from so-called sanctuary cities like New York. Trump and the Republican Party have long utilized racist rhetoric implying that all undocumented people are rapists and murderers. But recent data collected by the Deportation Data Project, a group that collects immigration numbers, indicates that about 30,000 people in immigration detention do not have a criminal record, NPR reports. Last week, HuffPost's Matt Shuham described what he saw over five days in immigration court in New York City this month. One of the more shocking quotes Shuham got during his time observing at the courthouse was from an unnamed federal agent involved with immigration court arrests. 'This is fishing in a stocked pool,' the agent told Shuham. 'You tell them, 'Show up at this location,' and then they show up and you grab them.' The agent also noted that special agents who deal with more complex crimes are being pulled off their assignments to do courthouse arrests. 'The Challenge: Vets and New Threats': Cast, release date, how to watch
"The Challenge" is pitting a cohort of newcomers against seasoned veterans on its newest season, "Vets and New Threats." Season 41 of the reality competition show is set to kick off on July 30 after airing a launch special on July 23. "The Challenge," one of the genre's longest-running series, brings together a group of competitors facing off in a series of mental and physical challenges in the quest for a massive cash prize. While the original iterations of the show only saw alumni from "The Real World" and "Road Rules," the modern version has expanded to include competitors from reality shows around the globe. Here's what to know about the new season. When does 'The Challenge' Season 41 premiere? "The Challenge: Vets and New Threats" will premiere on Wednesday, July 30 at 8 p.m. ET. It will be hosted by TJ Lavin. How to watch 'The Challenge: Vets and New Threats' The new season of "The Challenge" will air on MTV. Aside from watching it live, viewers with some TV providers can use their login to stream the show on MTV's website or app. A list of participating TV providers is available on MTV's website. 'The Hills' alum Lo Bosworth announces she's married, expecting first baby with Dom Natale
A Laguna Beach wedding? Lo Bosworth wouldn't have it any other way. The reality star, 38, who starred in both "Laguna Beach" and its spinoff "The Hills," on MTV, exchanged vows earlier in July with investor Dom Natale, Bosworth told People in an exclusive interview. The pair is also expecting their first child together. Bosworth, now a wellness brand founder, spent the better part of her young adulthood on television, minting a new kind of reality program alongside her high school classmates on "Laguna Beach." Now, the Southern California city is the site of her no-frills nuptials, and a celebration of a growing family. In a post to Instagram July 28, Bosworth celebrated the news, captioning a series of wedding photos: "We said yes with joy. And life, with its most tender timing, said yes right back." Natale, who Bosworth said she met a few years ago, wore a breezy white-on-white suit for the beachside affair. The bride's fashion was a constantly moving target, she said. "When we set our date in July, we didn't know if our planned IVF cycle would be successful. I bought a dress (or two) early on in the hopes one would still work if we got lucky," she told People. But, when the date arrived, none of the gowns fit. She called in some favors from fashion friends and ended up with a custom dress on the fly, ultimately walking down the aisle in "a classic look that accentuated my bump." While it does not appear that Bosworth has any plans to get behind the camera again, she is dabbling in entrepreneurship and has no regrets about her time as a teen TV icon. "I have developed a much healthier relationship with my own reality TV experience than the one I had a number of years ago," she previously told USA TODAY. "I think right when I came off the show, there was definitely some trauma that we all had to work through. I think it's not normal to be on TV, to have millions of people see you, and to have to absorb all of that energy and their opinions can be challenging. As I have grown into an adult, I think I have a much better perspective on it."I'm able to understand how the experience has benefited me to a degree that I can't even really communicate," she added.
