Madras HC reserves order on plea against TN online game regulations
Counsels for the parties filed written submissions when the petitions came up for hearing before a division bench of Justices S M Subramaniam and K Rajasekar. Subsequently, the bench reserved the orders.
The petitions were filed by the gaming platforms, including Play Games 24x7 Private Limited, Head Digital Works Private Limited, and Junglee Games India Private Limited challenging the Tamil Nadu Online Gaming Activity (Real Money Games) Regulations, 2025.
Their contentions are against regulation 4 (i), which prohibits those below 18 years from playing the RMGs, 4 (iii), which mandates KYC registration of players with Aadhaar number for opening gaming accounts on these online platforms and 4 (viii), which bans playing RMGs during 'blank hours' from 12 am to 5 am.
Moreover, the gaming platforms also challenged the regulations which mandate compulsory pop-up caution alerts including that of 'online game is addictive'.

Last Updated: NEET PG 2025 was held on August 3 in a single shift for over 2.42 lakh candidates across 301 cities. NEET PG results are expected by September 3 at The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) successfully conducted the NEET PG 2025 examination on August 3 in a single shift across 1,052 test centres in 301 cities. Over 2.42 lakh medical aspirants appeared for the exam, making it the largest computer-based test in India to be held in a single shift, according to a press release issued by NBEMS. Originally scheduled for June 15 in two shifts, the exam faced strong objections from aspirants over concerns of unfair evaluation due to the multiple-shift format. The matter reached the Supreme Court, which on May 30 directed NBEMS to conduct the exam in a single shift, while allowing it to retain the June 15 date. However, NBEMS later sought additional time for logistical arrangements, leading to the exam being postponed to August 3. With the exam now completed, NEET PG 2025 results are expected to be declared around September 3. As per the official information bulletin, NBEMS typically takes about a month to release results. In 2023, the results were declared 12 days after the exam. Once announced, candidates will be able to download their scorecards from the official website at using their login credentials. The scorecards will be available for six months from the date of result declaration, after which no requests will be entertained. In the wake of recent controversies surrounding competitive exams, NBEMS implemented several security and surveillance measures to ensure transparency and fairness. More than 2,200 faculty members from medical colleges and NBEMS-accredited hospitals were deployed to monitor the conduct of the examination and report any irregularities. The board also worked in coordination with the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, to prevent cyber fraud and malpractices. Nearly 300 cyber commandos were stationed at sensitive test centres, while over 200 personnel at the NBEMS headquarters continuously monitored live CCTV feeds from all venues. Senior medical faculty, deans, and members of the NBEMS Governing Body also participated in surprise inspections as part of flying squads. BSE vice-president Nihar arrested
Cuttack: The police on Sunday arrested the vice-president of the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) for his alleged involvement in the paper leak of special Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET)-2025, a senior officer said. The BSE was supposed to hold the special OTET-2025 on July 20. However, the Board was forced to postpone the examination after a handwritten question paper with answers went viral on social media a day before, the police officer said. 'During the investigation, clear-cut negligence of BSE vice-president Nihar Ranjan Mohanty was found. He was having a suspicious relation with prime accused Jitan Moharana, who was working as a data entry operator at the office of the BSE,' said Vinaytosh Mishra, Director General of Police (Crime Branch). So far, eight persons, including the BSE vice-president and a data entry operator, have been arrested in the question paper leak case, he said. During the investigation, the police found that Jitan Moharana had first circulated the handwritten question paper to two other accused persons, and then it went viral on social media. When the Crime Branch started investigating how Moharana was able to get access to the question paper, as he didn't have the authority, it was found that the vice-president was coordinating with a Bhopal-based agency for printing of the question paper, Mishra told reporters here. As per protocol, Mohanty only had access to the question paper using an ID and password. He was supposed to proof-read the question paper, make necessary corrections and then delete it from the computer, he said. 'However, we found that he had not deleted the question paper from his laptop and gave its access to data entry operator Jitan Moharana even though he has no business with dealing with the question set,' the DGP (Crime Branch) said. While examining the call records, the Crime Branch found that Mohanty had telephonic conversation with Jitan Moharana for more than 100 times beyond the official hours during the past three months, he added. The DGP (Crime Branch) said Moharana had no role in the conduct of the examination. Still, the vice-president had deliberately given him laptop access, which helped him leak the question paper. So, both have an equal role in the question leak case. The police will now start a financial investigation into the question paper leak case, he said, adding, 'We are also trying to find out whether any other person was involved in the case or not.'

Odisha self-immolation case: Crime Branch of Odisha police arrests two persons linked to the death
The Crime Branch of Odisha police has arrested two persons linked to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in connection with a student's self-immolation on the campus of F.M. Autonomous College, Balasore, leading to her death last month. Crime Branch, which was tasked with the investigation into death that sparked nationwide uproar over girl's suicide, had picked up Subhra Sambit Nayak, ABVP's State Joint Secretary and Jyotiprakash Biswal, who sustained injuries while rescuing the girl, late night of Sunday. The 20-year-old girl had accused her teacher Samira Sahoo of harassing her. However, her repeated grievances had not been redressed. She had finally set herself on fire after rushing out from office of Principal on July 12. Two days after, with 95% burn injuries, she died in AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. Earlier in several video footages, Subhra Sambit Nayak, who had graduated from college, was seen arguing with principal on behalf of the deceased girl and demanded auctioned against the accused teacher. Both accused were produced before local court and were remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. During investigation, Crime Branch officials had questioned students, teachers, parents and journalists and examined video evidences during past several weeks. Some more arrests are likely to be made in the case. A few persons linked to National Students' Union of India, student wing of Congress, may also come in the ambit of probe as they had posted remarks on the girl on social media sites. The self-immolation by girl had raised serious questions about existence of functional internal complaint committees mandated under Internal Committee mandated under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH) and the University Grants Commission (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations, 2015. Following girl's suicide, Opposition political parties had cornered the Mohan Majhi Government over the issue of safety of women in the State. The State government had subsequently in series of directions ordered to come up with internal complaint committees in all educational institutes.
