With the theme Navigating Tomorrow: Advancing Intelligent Transport Together, the event will spotlight key technology-enabled developments in Auckland's transport network – including AI-powered network optimisation for roads and public transport, the City Rail Link, new electric ferries and Australasia's largest all-electric bus depot.
Technical tours and demonstrations will include the University of Auckland Transportation Research Centre, a leader in dynamic wireless inductive charging, and ERoad, developers of New Zealand's nationwide electronic Road User Charges System.
Ken Pereira, Head of Business Events at Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, the region's cultural agency which attracts business events to the region on behalf of Auckland Council, says:
'This win supports our vision of Auckland as a global innovation hub. It shows we are open to international expertise and investment to grow our transport future, while also showcasing our homegrown technology and talent.'
The conference is expected to generate more than 3000 visitor nights in Auckland, supporting local hotels, retailers and the wider hospitality and tourism sector.
Tourism New Zealand Global Manager Business Events Penelope Ryan says:
'Delegates will not only be able to enhance their learning experience outside the conference venue through the city's new innovation and infrastructure; they'll also be able to enjoy the amazing activities, dining and culture of Auckland.'
NZICC General Manager Prue Daly says:
'Our team is excited to welcome global experts in intelligent transport to NZICC in 2027, and with key infrastructure like the City Rail Link at our doorstep, we are well positioned for delegates to easily experience this transformative transport project. We look forward to hosting this valuable knowledge exchange within NZICC, while also ensuring our international visitors enjoy our manaakitanga and an authentic Aotearoa New Zealand experience.'

Government AI Strategy To Boost Productivity

Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology Science, Innovation and Technology Minister Dr Shane Reti has launched New Zealand's first AI Strategy to boost productivity and grow a competitive economy. 'AI could add $76 billion to our GDP by 2038, but we're falling behind other small, advanced economies on AI-readiness and many businesses are still not planning for the technology,' says Dr Reti. 'We must develop stronger Kiwi AI capabilities to drive economic growth, and this Strategy sends a strong signal that New Zealand supports the uptake of AI. 'The Government's role in AI is to reduce barriers to adoption, provide clear regulatory guidance, and promote responsible AI adoption. 'We're taking a light-touch approach, and the Strategy sets out a commitment to create an enabling regulatory environment that gives businesses confidence to invest in the technology. 'Private sector AI adoption and innovation will boost productivity by unlocking new products and services, increasing efficiency, and supporting better decision-making. 'New Zealand's strength lies in being smart adopters. From AI-powered precision farming techniques to diagnostic technology in healthcare, Kiwi businesses can tailor AI to solve our unique challenges and deliver world-leading solutions.' The Strategy aligns with OECD AI Principles and the Government will continue to work with international partners on global rules to support the responsible use and development of AI. 'New Zealanders will need to develop trust and give social licence to AI use, so the Government has also released Responsible AI Guidance to help businesses safely use, develop and innovate with the technology,' says Dr Reti. The Government will use existing legislation and regulations such as privacy, consumer protection and human rights, to manage risk and privacy concerns.

Wavelink to distribute Cloudian HyperStore for AI-ready storage

Wavelink has entered a distribution agreement with Cloudian to distribute Cloudian's S3-compatible file and object storage solutions across Australia, New Zealand, and Oceania. Under the agreement, Wavelink will make available Cloudian's HyperStore platform, an artificial intelligence (AI)-ready data solution designed for highly scalable, secure, and cost-effective storage requirements. Cloudian's platform Cloudian's HyperStore platform is aimed at organisations seeking scalable object storage, with capabilities that cover on-premises, private, and public cloud environments. The platform features a modular architecture and supports a pay-as-you-grow commercial model. This flexibility is intended to allow customers to move workloads from hyperscale clouds to local infrastructure in order to manage latency, control data, and improve cost predictability. The HyperStore platform offers exabyte scalability, full compatibility with the S3 application programming interface (API), multi-tenancy features, and what Cloudian describes as military-grade security. These features are positioned to support AI workloads that require secure, large-scale data access and management. Supporting cloud journeys Cloudian is a great fit for Wavelink's channel partners, from managed service providers to resellers specialising in cloud, infrastructure, and security. Wavelink is excited to support Cloudian's growth across the region, and its market leadership, flexible commercial model, and compatibility with a wide range of use cases make Cloudian an ideal addition to Wavelink's portfolio. This statement was made by Ilan Rubin, Chief Executive Officer, Wavelink. Rubin highlighted that the new partnership aligns Wavelink with channel partners involved in managed services, cloud, infrastructure, and security, and broadens the company's offering in the context of evolving enterprise data storage needs. The agreement is expected to help Wavelink serve partners throughout the cloud journey—whether they are optimising public cloud, adopting hybrid cloud strategies, or deploying AI model training and inferencing solutions on-premises. By combining Cloudian's platform with Wavelink's channel development services, both companies aim to meet the increasing regional demand for secure, AI-ready storage solutions. Regional expansion James Wright, Managing Director, Asia Pacific and Japan, Cloudian, said the agreement would extend Cloudian's presence across the region and bring the HyperStore platform to a wider audience. Wright stated: Cloudian is excited to partner with Wavelink to expand its reach across Australia, New Zealand, and Oceania, and in particular, to bring the HyperStore platform to more organisations. Whether customers are looking to contain public cloud costs, bring data closer to compute, or accelerate their AI initiatives, Cloudian's modern architecture is built to deliver. Cloudian's approach is targeted at organisations concerned with the cost and control of public cloud storage, as well as those seeking to advance AI projects or bring data resources nearer to computing infrastructure. Partner enablement Through this agreement, Wavelink will offer a range of support measures for technology partners, including tailored enablement programmes, technical training, and targeted go-to-market initiatives. These are designed to facilitate the adoption of Cloudian's solutions in industries that are increasingly leveraging AI and hybrid data strategies. Both companies have stated that coupling Cloudian's scalability with Wavelink's operational and channel support will help address the needs of organisations requiring storage infrastructure capable of supporting high volumes of secure, accessible data for modern AI- and cloud-based workloads.

Conservation land use applications processed faster with help from AI

Conservation Minister Tama Potaka says processing applications quicker means businesses get certainty faster. Photo: RNZ / Samuel Rillstone The government is celebrating faster processing of applications for the use of conservation land, including by using AI. In a statement, Conservation Minister Tama Potaka said the application backlog had dropped from 1300 last September, to 550 now - with processing times improved by 180 percent. He said AI had been used to help scan documents, and one-off drone permits now took just five working days, compared to the previous "weeks". "We're achieving these results through a data-driven approach and smarter, more efficient systems and processes, including new technology such as AI tools helping to scan statutory documents," he said. "Processing applications quicker means businesses get certainty faster. DOC is enabling a wide range of activities that connect people with nature and support local economies, while more quickly declining proposals where the effects on nature or heritage cannot be avoided, remedied, or mitigated. "Around a third of the applications DOC has processed since February are related to tourism, the country's second-largest export earner, where more than 380 tourism related applications in the last three months were processed, including guiding activities in Fiordland and Heli hunt and fish concessions for helicopter landings in the North Island." Most applications for use of conservation land are for tourism operations, but the Department of Conservation this month also approved Kokiri Lime's application to quarry 1ha of rock needed for critical roading and flood protection infrastructure projects in South Westland.
