R. Kelly's lawyer claims prison staff tried to ‘kill him' after rapper was rushed to hospital for overdose
The disgraced rapper suffered an overdose and passed out after being administered medication by staff at Butner Federal Correctional Complex in North Carolina, according to his attorney in a court filing.
The 58-year-old - whose real name is Robert Kelly - is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence after being convicted on multiple federal charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking.
The rapper's attorney said in the filing that Kelly had been put into solitary confinement on June 10 with his anxiety medication, and then was directed to take more on the same day - federal prosecutors have denied this.
According to the filing, the former superstar reported that he was feeling 'faint' and 'dizzy', before he 'started to see black spots in his vision' before he passed out and was taken to hospital.
The singer of hit song 'Ignition' spent the next two days in hospital, as his attorney alleged that the prison staff 'gave him an amount of medicine that could of killed him'.
This episode comes following a recent appeal from Kelly to Donald Trump asking to be pardoned from his sentence - due to fears that
officials from the Bureau of Prisons were plotting to murder him.
Kelly's lawyer claimed that the once rapper has been treated poorly by the prison staff and was not given the required treatment for blood clots.
While in hospital, the doctors reportedly found blood clots in his leg that will need surgery - although he was denied surgery and released from the hospital after several days.

Kelly Clarkson postpones her Las Vegas residency
Kelly Clarkson feels "devastated" after postponing the opening of her Las Vegas residency. The 43-year-old pop star was supposed to begin her residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Friday (04.07.25), but Kelly was forced to postpone her plans amid concerns about her voice. The chart-topping star wrote on Instagram: "We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans. I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow's opening at Caesars. "The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice. I want the shows to be perfect for y'all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve. (sic)" Kelly is determined to begin her residency in the best fashion possible, and she's already looking forward to her first performance. Her post continued: "The show is truly incredible. The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong. "I can't wait to be back next weekend and show y'all what we've been working on. (sic)" Kelly's Las Vega residency was originally set to feature 18 performances between July 4 and November 15. The pop star previously performed a series of sold-out shows at PH Live at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in 2023 and 2024. And earlier this year, Kelly revealed what fans could expect from her residency. She said on the Today show: "This is totally different for us, how we're doing it. "It's called Studio Sessions, and the reason for that is I feel like you don't get live anymore - maybe back in the '70s - but you really don't get live what you really feel in the studios. "There's no tracks at all of any instruments or anything. It's all live. It just feels amazing in the studio, so we wanted to bring that into the setting for everybody, so it's going to be really fun."
