The Navy confirmed that four people were aboard the aircraft. It has launched an investigative unit to look into further details, including casualties.

California: A US Navy F-35 fighter jet crashed in central California on Wednesday (local time) near Naval Air Station Lemoore, according to a Navy press statement, CNN reported. The pilot ejected safely, and the cause of the crash, which occurred around 6:30 pm, is under investigation, the statement said. Video from CNN affiliate KFSN showed fire and thick black smoke rising from the crash site in flat, open farmland near the air station, around 40 miles (64 kilometers) southwest of the city of Fresno in central California. The aircraft was assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron VF-125, known as the "Rough Raiders," the Navy said. VF-125 is a Fleet Replacement Squadron, responsible for training pilots and aircrew. The crashed jet was an F-35C, one of three variants of the F-35 Lightning II, designed for use on US aircraft carriers. The US Air Force flies the F-35A while the Marine Corps flies the F-35B, a short takeoff, vertical landing jet. The crash of the aircraft, priced at around USD 100 million, was the second of an F-35 this year, CNN reported. An Air Force F-35A crashed at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska in January during a training mission. The pilot also ejected safely in that incident. The F-35, a fifth-generation fighter jet and one of the world's most advanced warplanes, is a cornerstone of the US military's fleet. Manufactured by Lockheed Martin, it's lauded for its advanced stealth and combat capabilities. Worldwide, more than 17 countries are part of the F-35 program, the company says. But the jet has faced increased scrutiny in recent years over maintenance and readiness issues, as reported by CNN.

Germany: Train derails, killing at least 3 people
Local police say that all of the injured have been transported from the scene of the train crash to surrounding hospitals. DW's Michael Watzke, who reported from the scene early on Monday morning, said that the remaining passengers had been brought to a community center in a nearby village. He said that the crash site was still a hive of activity. At least three people died when a regional train carrying some 100 passengers derailed in southwestern Germany. Around 50 people are injured, a number of them severely, according to Charlotte Ziller, the fire chief of Biberach district, who spoke to reporters at the scene late on Sunday evening. The regional express train departed Sigmaringen and was traveling to Ulm when at least two carriages of a regional train partially derailed in a forested area at around 6:10 p.m. (1610 GMT). The accident site is about 45 kilometers (28 miles) southeast of Ulm, which is located on the border with the German state of show hundreds of people, including firefighters, police, train workers and even the army helping at the scene of the accident as generators hum in the background. Rescue workers with dogs were also checking that none of the passengers were trapped under the derailed carriages, Watzke said. He added that there are plans to bring in heavy cranes on Monday to lift up the carriages. The regional express was pulling four carriages, he said, when it derailed. Richard Lutz, the chief executive of Germany's national rail operator Deutsche Bahn, said that everyone at Deutsche Bahn is deeply shocked and dismayed by the accident. "My heartfelt sympathy and condolences go out to the relatives of the deceased. I wish the injured a quick and full recovery," he said, thanking all the emergency services and volunteers on site.

Bus crash in Peru kills at least 15
Lima: A bus travelling from Lima to the city of La Merced crashed on Friday, killing at least 15 and injuring about 30 others, authorities said. Health director Clifor Curipaco from the Junin region in Peru, said the bus went off the road and fell into a ravine in the district of Palca. Authorities were in the process of identifying 15 bodies, said Aldo Tineo, a health official from the central city of Tarma. A double-decker bus belonging to Expreso Molina Líder Internacional had been carrying more than 60 people when it crashed and landed on its roof next to a river. Local television broadcasted videos of the crash site, showing the bus split in two. Bus crashes are not uncommon in Peru. This is not the first fatal bus crash in Peru this year. In January, a bus fell into a river, killing 6 and injuring 32. In 2024, there were approximately 3,173 traffic accident deaths in the country, according to police. A report by the Attorney General's Office has found that recklessness and excessive speed are the main causes of accidents in Peru. Poor road conditions are also a cause. Authorities are investigating the cause of Thursday's accident.
