Aussie superstar Meg Harris wins World Championships swimming gold with eyes closed
Harris claimed her first gold of the meet on the final night in Singapore to go with silver medals in the women's 400m medley and as part of Australia's women's 4x100m medley relay.

And her incredible swim on Sunday night was made all the more impressive by the fact that she did it by swimming the entire lap with her eyes shut.
Which is why, as she looked up at the board showing her time of 24.02s, she was seen saying 'What the f**k?'.
Harris got off to a slow start before storming home to grab the gold ahead of Qingfeng Wu (24.26) and Yujie Cheng (24.28).

And it took several seconds for the 23-year-old to truly realise she had won as Harris revealed post-race she has adopted the bizarre habit of shutting her eyes while swimming.
'I swim with my eyes closed, so I had no idea where I was in the race, so when I turned around it was pretty shocking,' Harris told Cate Campbell on Channel 9 post-race.
'It's normal for me,' Harris said post-race, speaking about how her eyes were shut.
'I do it a lot in the 50m and in the 100m, I always do it on the second lap.
'So I'm not quite sure what it is, I do it in training as well, but I guess it's just like trying to focus on my stroke … not 100 per cent, that's just what happens.'
The response left Campbell stunned: 'Wait, so when you're swimming, you're blind and deaf. Is that right?' Campbell said, referring to the fact that Harris is partially deaf.
Harris nodded, saying, 'pretty much'.
'Well, whatever you're doing, it's working for you,' Harris replied.
It was a beautiful moment for Harris, who took gold in front of her mum, dad, sister and grandparents, in what was the first time her grandparents had ever flown overseas to watch her race.
Australia finished with eight gold, six silver and six bronze, only second on the medal tally to the United States, nine gold, 11 silver and nine bronze.

I would take a more holistic view and have the Allies playing Victoria as Victoria is like the footy capital,' she said. The timing The league's continued expansion is written into the CBA – with the current 18-team competition only playing for 12 rounds plus finals. While Origin would be a way to get more games in the calendar, the same issues that plague discussions of the return of the competition for the men's game would be problematic for the women. Playing a series on the eve of the season could see star players injured ahead of their club campaigns; playing at the end or in the off-season would interrupt their breaks. Playing representative football in the middle of the regular season – for example, making the game a showcase event on AFL grand final day or eve – is also likely to be unpopular with clubs. 'The only trouble [in 2017] was the injuries that came from the game, so that would be a risk. But I think we should do it,' Bates said. 'Timing is tricky. Girls often travel in the off-season and whatnot, I think the perfect time would be straight after the season when you still have your match fitness.' Molloy ruled out a mid-season Origin. 'I don't think fixturing it during the season is appropriate. We want to win the premiership, every team wants to win the premiership, so you don't want to take away from that journey.'

Grace Baba becomes first AFLW player suspended before making league debut after striking charge
Hawthorn's Grace Baba has made history by becoming the first AFLW player to be suspended before making her official debut. Baba, who was selected by the Hawks in last year's draft, was handed a one-match suspension for striking Richmond's Laura McClelland in Sunday's practice match. The incident occurred off the ball as Baba and McClelland grappled for position deep inside Hawthorn's forward line. Footage from behind the Hawks' goals appeared to show Baba striking McClelland in the stomach with her right hand, with the blow dropping McClelland to her knees. The match review officer graded the action a strike with intentional conduct, medium impact and body contact. Baba's suspension means she will be ineligible for selection in Hawthorn's round one clash against Brisbane at Springfield Central Stadium in Ipswich on August 17. Baba's strike was the one sour note to come out of an impressive 37-point win over the Tigers for the Hawks in their final practice match before the season gets underway. Hawks skipper Emily Bates (23 disposals and seven inside 50s) was dominant alongside Tilly Lucas-Rodd (19 disposals). Last year's leading goal kicker, Aine McDonagh, was on song again, leading the Hawks with three goals, while Greta Bodey added two majors.
