MercyOne releases statement about split with Medical Center Anesthesiologists

Yahoo20-05-2025
DES MOINES, Iowa — On Tuesday, MercyOne released a statement about its split with Medical Center Anesthesiologists.
Last week it was announced that MercyOne was parting ways with long-time anesthesia partner, Medical Center Anesthesiologists (MCA). According to an email sent to MercyOne staff obtained by WHO 13, the split stemmed from MercyOne's transition to TogetherCare/ Epic Go Live, an electronic medical record system.
MCA President-Elect Dr. Vincent Brinker told WHO 13 that the MCA knew about the transition to Epic but identified issues with the system. Dr. Brinker said the MCA provided temporary solutions to the issues, but MercyOne disagreed with those solutions, and ultimately decided to part ways.

Now, MercyOne is releasing a statement addressing the issue. It reads:
Based on recent social media and news coverage, we recognize the need to share the broader situation of the MercyOne and MCA relationship to provide more accurate context for our community. MercyOne has a long history of providing exceptional health care and we are committed to continue providing that level of care and experience to our patients. In March, Medical Center Anesthesiologists (MCA) contacted MercyOne providing 180-day termination of their contract. To keep our partnership in place, MCA required MercyOne to provide more than double our financial support, forcing us to prudently request proposals from other organizations. Additionally, MCA was unwilling to chart patient status information during surgery using downtime procedures until MercyOne transitions to new technology for approximately six weeks.
Ultimately, the decisions from MCA have led MercyOne to seek a new partnership with Vituity, a physician-owned entity. 'Vituity's mission is to improve lives. We work closely with local partners to ensure continuity of care, expand access, and create positive, lasting impact in the communities we serve,' says Vituity CEO Imamu Tomlinson, MD. 'At the heart of our culture is a deep commitment to empowering clinicians — so they can provide the best possible care and find purpose and fulfillment in the work they do every day.'
The goal for MercyOne during this transition is to keep MCA providers in the new model to provide the same excellent service to our patients, our colleagues, and our community. Surgical clinical quality at MercyOne Des Moines is outstanding and achieves best in class results. Vituity is committed to continuing this tradition of clinical excellence.

After May 31, the MCA will no longer provide services to MercyOne Des Moines hospital downtown and Mercy Medical Center-West Lakes in West Des Moines.

What is a credit check for MCA & how does MCA impact your credit score

When your business signs up for a Merchant Cash Advance, any MCA lender in the UK will have to perform a credit check to get an idea about the financial health of your business. If you are unfamiliar with the term right now, it's okay because that is what we will talk about further. Merchant Cash Advance (MCA) is a financial solution used by SMEs and enterprises in the UK to get immediate access to cash to improve cash flow for a business. When you sign up for MCA, you attain cash funds called an advance in exchange for the sales of your future card sales. The repayment takes place over a period of time with a fixed fee called a factor rate. Please keep in mind that MCA is only applicable to card sales and not cash-based transactions. Traditional bank loans require collateral to grant you a loan. Additionally, the application process for a bank loan is hectic because banks look at multiple factors of your business like your credit score, credit history, and current or outstanding loans. This process of analysing your business performance is called a credit check. On the other hand, MCA lenders don't require collateral to grant you a loan, you also don't necessarily need to have a good credit score. Since MCA lenders don't require collateral, they associate a certain risk with each business which is reflected in the factor rate. This factor rate determines the profit earned by the MCA lenders. It is a fixed ratio of pennies charged per pound of the advance sum of money. To be specific, a factor rate of 1.2 means that for each £1 received in advance, you'll pay £1.2 from your future card sales. MCA lenders need to make sure that they are doing business with a business that is capable of paying back the sum of money on time. To make their financial risk worth it, MCA lenders perform a credit check before giving you a quote for the factor rate. So in this credit check, MCA lenders check for the volume of card transactions, business profitability, and credit rating. The criteria for these credit checks are comparably less strict than the traditional credit checks performed by the bank. We will look into it further. There are two basic types of credit checks: Soft credit checks are the ones performed by the MCA lenders as we have mentioned before. A soft credit check lets your MCA lender know your business performance and loan history. On a bigger scale, this credit check is just to get an idea of your business profitability to weigh how much risk it is worth. It's not a crucial factor in deciding whether you'll get MCA funding or not because it is ultimately focused on your future card sales, not your past financial decisions. Even if a lender performs a credit check and your contract doesn't go through, don't give up because the financial market in the UK is competitive and you'll find another lender who suits your business terms better. A hard credit check is conducted traditionally by a bank, and it shows much more details about your business conditions as compared to a soft check like your credit history, previous loans, any ongoing loans, and more. Unlike a traditional bank loan, MCA doesn't show up on your credit history so it doesn't have any outright impact on it. How you manage your repayments and your experience with your MCA lender is more important in this case. Every MCA lender has their own contract terms and repayment span depending on your business. What's important is that repayments should be made on time. Even though overall MCA doesn't negatively impact your score, missed and delayed payments will definitely do. In case of missed or delayed repayments, you must communicate with your lender. Such late payments can harm your reputation, and penalties and also show up in your credit history as a negative thing if the lender raises this issue. If you have a rocky experience with an MCA, you missed your repayments a few times or delayed them, it will cause inconvenience the next time you need an MCA to manage your cash flow. Also, keep in mind that MCA is a financing solution and should only be used for short-term fixes. Constant and repeated use of MCA doesn't look good as it indicates that you might need a long-term financing solution instead of a temporary one. MCA is one of the most popular financing solutions that can help your business to improve cash flow for the short term. ComparedBusiness can help you choose an MCA provider that supports your need of your business. Read Click : Tech Plus Product TIME BUSINESS NEWS

Why Netflix's beat-and-raise quarter is welcome news for Disney investors

Strong earnings from streaming king Netflix on Thursday sets the stage for Disney to shine with its results in a few weeks. Netflix reported an upbeat quarterly results after the bell Thursday, with revenue soaring 16% year over year, its seventh straight quarter of double-digit growth. The streaming service also delivered beats on operating income, earnings per share and free cash flow, and raised its full-year revenue guidance. (Shares were down Friday on Netflix warning that its operating margin would be lower in the second half of 2025). While the results certainly keep Netflix atop the competitive streaming industry, they also provide a good read-through for Disney, which has been hyper-focused on growing its streaming platforms — Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ -- as its traditional TV business remains challenged. Indeed, Netflix reported "healthy member growth" — Netflix no longer discloses quarterly net member adds — proving consumers are still willing to pay for streaming entertainment. But it also found success with higher pricing for its products and revenue from its new ad-supported services. That higher pricing is welcome news for other streamers, including Disney, which has raised prices for Disney+ ad-supported and ad-free plans, as well as for its bundles which combine Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+. The uptick in ad revenue at Netflix demonstrates that major streaming platforms like Disney+ can raise prices and grow advertising income without losing subscribers, proving that customers are willing to pay up for premium content, and that ad-supported models can help diversify revenue streams. In related news, NBCUniversal's streaming service Peacock just announced Friday that it is raising prices by $3 per month for its ad-supported and ad-free tiers. The price hikes come after a surge in subscribers for the latest season of "Love Island" and in anticipation of its NBA broadcast package beginning this fall. (NBCUniversal is the parent company of CNBC.) Ahead of Disney's third quarter on Aug. 6, UBS estimated double-digit earnings per share growth will continue, buoyed by resilient demand at the company's theme parks and similar improvement in direct-to-consumer profitability. They note concerns that the opening of Universal's Epic theme park in Orlando appear to have been overblown. The analysts raised its price target on Disney stock to $138 a share from $120 earlier this week. After a big move off their April lows, shares have been rangebound as investors wait to hear more about streaming profitability improvements, the strength of its parks and experiences business, and management's plan to mitigate declines in linear TV. The stock is trading roughly 1% lower at $121 per share Friday. Disney is a "show-me stock," Jim Cramer said Thursday on "Squawk on the Street." "People want to see the Disney+ numbers and see that there really is a breakout because there's been so much distrust about anything that's involved with linear [TV]," he said. "No one seems to get their way until they see the numbers. I think the numbers are going to come through and the stock's going to look cheap. I'm a believer." Of course, we don't sacrifice our discipline even when we have faith that Disney will be able to move higher over time. We trimmed our position on June 27 to capitalize on that big run. Now, we're waiting for earnings in a couple weeks for a business update. We maintain our price target of $130 and 2-rating on the stock. (Jim Cramer's Charitable Trust is long DIS. Humana Simplifies Access to Coverage and Care Information

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Humana Inc. [NYSE: HUM] announced today its latest collaboration with healthcare software company Epic, becoming the first health insurer to integrate health plan information directly into the MyChart accounts patients may already use with their healthcare providers. 'This integration not only simplifies access to critical plan details but also empowers members to manage their health effectively,' said George Renaudin, Humana's President of Insurance. This enables Humana Medicare Advantage members to access their insurance details – such as vital coverage information, benefits, contacts and other resources – in the same place where they manage the rest of their care. 'We are dedicated to making our members' healthcare experience as smooth and effortless as possible,' said George Renaudin, Humana's President of Insurance. 'This integration not only simplifies access to critical plan details but also empowers members to manage their health effectively.' With over 3 million of Humana's members already using MyChart, this partnership with Epic marks a significant milestone in integrating care delivery with health plan information. 'Navigating healthcare can be complex, especially when information lives in different places,' said Alan Hutchison, Vice President at Epic. 'This collaboration aims to make things simpler by bringing care and coverage together for patients.' How Does It Work? Automatic Prompt: When members log into a connected health system's MyChart, they will be prompted to link their MyChart account to their Humana plan. Embedded Information: Once linked, members gain access to payer-maintained information and their insurance activity, which includes deductible and maximum out-of-pocket progress, a digital ID card, and direct links to health plan resources. How Does It Help Patients? Centralized Access: Members can view personalized coverage totals and benefit details, including deductibles and out-of-pocket costs for both in-network and out-of-network services, without switching between apps or searching for paper summaries. Comprehensive Resources: Without having to log out of MyChart, Humana members will have access to tailored reminders and resources, including a single sign-on to important phone numbers like the 24/7 Nurse Advice Line, and information on claims and authorization status. This innovative feature enables members to conveniently access their health plan's information, increasing transparency and reducing the effort required to find critical details about their coverage and health plan resources. About Humana: Humana Inc. is committed to putting health first – for our teammates, our customers, and our company.
