Daniel Ricciardo Embraces ‘Slow Lane' Life After F1 Exit

Daniel Ricciardo Embraces 'Slow Lane' Life After F1 Exit originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Daniel Ricciardo's trademark grin is still as bright as ever. Only now, it's beaming from a karting track rather than the cockpit of a Formula 1 car. At 36, the Australian star is settling into what he cheekily calls 'the slow lane,' embracing a more laid-back chapter after an unceremonious exit from F1 last year.

Ricciardo's once-promising return with AlphaTauri (now VCARB) in 2023 seemed a chance to rebuild his career. But after a wrist-breaking crash at Zandvoort, followed by a string of poor performances in 2024, he was replaced after Singapore by Liam Lawson.
With no seat lined up, Ricciardo quietly stepped back from the spotlight. Aside from the occasional Instagram post and sponsor cameo, he kept a low profile, leaving fans wondering about how he was truly handling life off the grid.
Now we have our answer. At a recent Daniel Ricciardo Series karting event at Buckmore Park, Ricciardo opened up revealing he's more than content with how things have turned out.

'I'm just enjoying some life in the slow lane,' he laughed, describing the joy of reconnecting the grassroots side of racing. "I mean, it sounds weird saying like retirement when I'm 35 years old, but retirement from at least the world I was living in. So it's cool, you know, to be at the kart track. It's my first time at a racetrack in since, I guess, Singapore, so since quite a few months now," he further added.

It's a far cry from the relentless pressure of chasing podiums and contracts in F1, but Ricciardo seems genuinely at peace and still very much in love with motorsport.
For fans who remember his electric overtakes and infectious personality, it's a bittersweet turn.
But seeing Ricciardo light up the kart track stress-free and surrounded by young racers inspired by him is a reminder that there's life beyond F1's brutal calendar. Even if it's a few mph slower.

Bold Warriors Trade Idea Unites Stephen Curry With His Long-Awaited Perfect Fit

Bold Warriors Trade Idea Unites Stephen Curry With His Long-Awaited Perfect Fit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When you hear Stephen Curry and dream running mate, who comes to mind? If the answer is anything but LeBron James, it is the wrong one. Advertisement The two megastars finally shared the court as teammates, not rivals, at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The Golden State Warriors would likely be more than happy to see that pairing in their jerseys as well. The idea of pairing James and Curry is not new. However, what has changed is the Los Angeles Lakers' reported stance on how they perceive their 40-year-old superstar. Brian Windhorst suggested James is no longer being viewed as a franchise player. The four-time NBA champion has been reduced to the status of 'expiring contract.' Windhorst said, "My conversations over the last three days have crystallized that the Lakers are essentially viewing LeBron as an expiring contract. ... I'm not sure what happened, but the Lakers and LeBron did not have (substantive discussions about extending his contract." Advertisement The NBA insider said expiring contracts are typically viewed as trade pieces in the league and that he was no longer convinced that a trade involving James was an impossibility. That is the Warriors' cue. Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry defends against Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James at Chase Yamashita-Imagn Images Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report thought up a trade package for this potential deal, should it come to pass. The NBA writer listed the Warriors as one of the top destinations for James. Warriors get: LeBron James. Lakers get: Jimmy Butler, Quinten Post. The selling points of this trade is interesting for both sides. For the Lakers, it may be a bit tougher to get behind this deal. Butler has more years in the tank than James does. However, the real incentive to downgrade from James for an extra year of Jimmy is not overwhelmingly exciting, even if Post helps address their frontcourt concerns. Advertisement For the Warriors, 2025-26 could very well be James' last year. Are the Warriors content taking one clear shot at the title with both Curry and James, if that is the case? Ultimately, both sides would need to do a bit of mental gymnastics for this one. However, the Warriors probably gravitate to the idea a lot quicker than the Lakers would. Keanu Reeves To Star In Cadillac F1 Docuseries Ahead Of 2026 Debut

Keanu Reeves is back in the fast lane. The Hollywood legend and quietly obsessive motorsport fan is set to narrate and executive produce a brand-new documentary series charting the rise of Cadillac's all-new Formula 1 team - a project that might just be the biggest shake-up to hit F1's paddock since Drive to Survive made Netflix shareholders very alongside Brawn collaborators Neil Duncanson and Simon Hammerson, the yet-unnamed docuseries will follow Cadillac and Andretti Global's rollercoaster bid to enter Formula 1, from their original 2022 application (rejected), to finally securing a grid slot for 2026 (approved, just barely). It will be filmed under Reeves' KR+SH production company and North One Television."I'm very honored and excited to be a part of telling the remarkable Cadillac Formula 1 Team story," Reeves said. "Our goal is to bring audiences into the heart of this journey and showcase what it takes to participate in one of the most exclusive sports arenas in the world." From Silverstone To Indy - The Team Behind The Team Unlike most F1 newcomers, Cadillac's team is being built entirely from scratch. No buyouts, no rebranding, no leased chassis. It's a clean-sheet operation with big ambitions, split between Andretti's U.S. base in Fishers, Indiana, and a UK outfit operating out of Silverstone - right in the heart of motorsport the two, they're hiring 600 people before lights out in Melbourne, with around 400 already on board. Engineers, logistics leads, aerodynamicists - the lot. And since GM won't have its Cadillac power unit ready until 2028 or 2029, the team will enter F1 in 2026 with Ferrari-supplied Cadillac insists it'll be an American effort with international scope. A moonshot project, in every sense - which is exactly why it should make for compelling television. Star Power Meets Serious Stakes The documentary is being positioned as more than just another Drive to Survive spinoff. Where Brawn focused on a miraculous underdog season, this project will showcase the blood, sweat, spreadsheets, and budget caps behind building an F1 team from nothing - with cameras embedded in both U.S. and UK also perfectly timed. Formula 1 has exploded in the U.S. in recent years, and a homegrown team led by a heritage luxury brand like Cadillac could be the final marketing domino Liberty Media's been waiting for. Add Keanu Reeves - already proven in motorsport storytelling - and you've got a headline act with genuine fan series is expected to land before the team's 2026 debut, with speculation it could stream on Disney+, Netflix, or Amazon Prime, depending on distribution deals. Still A Team Without A Face As of July 2025, no livery or drivers have been revealed. Cadillac has confirmed key hires are in place, and driver talks are ongoing. Rumours swirl around the usual suspects - Colton Herta, Valtteri Bottas, Sergio Pérez - but nothing has been documentary may well break that news itself, with producers hinting at exclusive behind-the-scenes access. Expect at least one reveal episode before testing begins in early 2026. Why It Matters In a landscape where new F1 teams are rare, and even rarer when they're American, Cadillac's entry is both bold and politically fraught. The docuseries won't just show a brand entering a sport - it'll show how difficult it is to be allowed to enter at all, especially when existing teams are reluctant to split the prize the drama Liberty Media loves. It's the spectacle fans crave. And with Keanu narrating it all in that serene, slightly whispery cadence? You might just believe the impossible is possible. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. Analyst Predicts Will Howard's Role with Steelers

Analyst Predicts Will Howard's Role with Steelers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason after a long and arduous courting process. They also drafted Ohio State's Will Howard in the sixth round of this year's NFL Draft. Advertisement Rodgers is 41 years old and has an extensive injury history recently, but Howard is inexperienced and raw. Which one wins the starting job? Of course, that's a ridiculous question. Rodgers will start 2025 under center, or he wouldn't have signed with the Steelers. But that doesn't mean he'll finish it. Barring another injury to the 10-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro, ESPN's Mike Tannenbaum believes it'll take until December before Howard overtakes Rodgers as the starter. "Will Howard will be starting for the Pittsburgh Steelers by December 1," he said on 'Get Up'. "Will Howard led Ohio State to the national championship, 89 QBR, 35 touchdown passes. And if he was a little bit better in the offseason before the draft, he could have been a third or a fourth-round pick." Advertisement Howard isn't your typical college quarterback transitioning to the NFL. He played in 50 games, threw for 9,796 yards and 83 touchdowns. He has more experience than most who enter the NFL as rookies. Tannenbaum also thinks Rodgers' age has a little something to do with him losing the starting role next year. "Aaron Rodgers is an all-time great, but he will be 42 in December," he said. "Last year, Pittsburgh gave up sacks at the 28th-highest rate, meaning they were not very good at protecting the passer. So when you have a 42-year-old quarterback, no offseason program, an offensive line that should, in fairness, be better because Troy Fautanu is coming back, I think Will Howard has a meaningful chance to be the quarterback of the future."
