Aamir Khan's "Sitaare Zameen Par" nears Rs 100 crore at the box office in its second week, earning Rs 94.95 crore. The sports comedy drama stars Khan as a former basketball coach.
Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par continues its strong run at the box office as it enters its second week. As it enters Day 8, the emotional drama is now inching close to the Rs 100 crore mark. Released exclusively in theatres with no OTT tie-up, the film has steadily drawn audiences throughout its first week.
According to the latest report by Sacnilk, Sitaare Zameen Par has earned Rs 94.95 crore in its first week at the box office. On Friday alone, the film brought in Rs 6.05 crore, as per early estimates. With a steady one-week total of Rs 88.9 crore earlier reported, the Aamir Khan-starrer has maintained a consistent pace. If the current trend continues, the film is expected to enter the Rs 100 crore club by the end of its second weekend in theatres across India.
The film has now surpassed the lifetime India collection of Akshay Kumar's Kesari 2, which had capped at Rs 92.53 crore.
Sitaare Zameen Par is considered a spiritual successor to Aamir Khan's 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par. The original film followed the moving story of Ishaan, a dyslexic child played by Darsheel Safary, and touched hearts across the nation with its sensitive portrayal of learning disabilities. It also featured Tisca Chopra and Vipin Sharma.
On the other hand, Sitaare Zameen Par is a sports comedy drama film produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit. Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra and Simran Mangeshkar will make their Hindi cinema debut with the film.
The film also boasts a strong supporting cast with seasoned performers like Dolly Ahluwalia, Gurpal Singh, Brijendra Kala, and Ankita Sehgal.
The story centres on Gulshan, a former star basketball coach portrayed by Aamir Khan, who is ordered to coach a group of neurodivergent children as part of his community service following a DUI offence. What starts off as a begrudging assignment soon evolves into a life-changing experience for both him and the team. Genelia Deshmukh plays Sunita, Gulshan's supportive wife.
N ews18 gave 3.5 rating to Sitaare Zameen Par. A part of our review read, 'Unlike Taare Zameen Par's Nikumbh, Gulshan isn't perfect. This is a flawed, man-child character, dealing with his own traumas, learning to navigate life with the help of those who suffer developmental delays. So far, on paper, Sitaare Zameen Par seems rather fantastic, novel, and heartfelt. And don't get us wrong — it definitely is all of that. But it also has its share of flaws that become a bump in its path to becoming a great film. To start with, at 2 hours 39 minutes, the film appears to be an extremely long and slow-moving affair."

Box Office: Superman scores a decent opening weekend in India; James Gunn directorial collects Rs 24 crore

The James Gunn-directed Superman has scored decent results in its opening weekend in India, as the David Corenswet starrer has collected Rs 24.50 crore (GBOC: Rs 30 crore) in 3 days. The superhero saga opened at Rs 6.75 crore on Friday, followed by a jump to Rs 9.00 crore on Saturday, and a nominal dip to Rs 8.75 crore on Sunday. The film has done its best business in the urban centres, but unfortunately, the mass belts didn't come on board over the weekend. The national chains have contributed about 60 percent to the total business, and ideally, a superhero film on a cult character like Superman should have had this ratio around the 55 percent mark. Superman has appreciation, but it's nowhere close to the global reception in India, as the weekend trend, especially on Sunday, was not as promising. The David Corenswet starrer will be hoping for a good hold in collections on Monday, and then look to show strong trend in the second weekend, to reach a successful number in the long run. The business of Superman is also impacted due to the cluttered release window, with competition from across industries. The biggest competitor for Superman came in the form of Jurassic World: Rebirth in India, as the dinosaur saga hit it out of the park with excellent jumps on Saturday and Sunday. Superman will be looking at first week business in the vicinity of Rs 35 crore, and then aim to get close to the half century mark by the end of second weekend. Superman Day Wise Box Office Collections in India (NBOC) Friday: Rs 6.75 crore Saturday: Rs 9.00 crore Sunday: Rs 8.75 crore Total: 24.50 crore

'Maalik' Box Office Collection Day 3: Rajkummar Rao's film earns THIS much on Sunday, shows solid weekend growth

Rajkummar Rao's latest gangster action thriller 'Maalik' continued its steady run at the box office on its third day, showing a consistent performance over the weekend. According to early estimates, the film earned approximately the same as Saturday's total on Sunday, rounding off its first weekend on a solid note. After collecting an estimated ₹ 3.75 crore on Friday, 'Maalik' saw a healthy jump on Saturday, bringing in around ₹ 5.25 crore. The film maintained its momentum into Sunday with early trends suggesting another ₹ 5.25 crore in collections. This brings the film's total to an estimated ₹ 14.25 crore over its opening weekend. Occupancy rates across major cities showed a fairly balanced response, with evening and night shows performing the strongest. On Sunday, 'Maalik' recorded an average Hindi (2D) occupancy of 29.79% during evening shows and 22.81% at night. Morning and afternoon slots were slower, at 8.05% and 22.43% respectively. Regionally, the film fared best in Chennai, with a notable 43% occupancy, followed by strong numbers in Lucknow (30.25%), Jaipur (24.25%), and NCR (23.25%). Other metros like Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru recorded more modest figures ranging from 18% to 22%. While the film faced lukewarm response in cities like Bhopal and Hyderabad, its consistent turnout in North and West Indian markets gave it the push it needed. Maalik has benefited from positive word-of-mouth and Rajkummar Rao's committed performance, as well as the film's themes. Starring Rajkummar Rao in the lead role, alongside Manushi Chhillar and legendary Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, the film is a gripping tale of power, ambition, and revenge set in the heart of Allahabad. Directed by Pulkit and produced by Kumar Taurani and Jay Shewakramani, 'Maalik' is packed with suspense, emotional moments, and unexpected twists. It is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025. As it enters the weekdays, it will be crucial to see whether it can hold its ground amid upcoming competition.
