Iga Swiatek's bid for fifth French Open boosted by win and Jelena Ostapenko exit
Swiatek swept into the fourth round and has yet to drop a set after beating Romanian Jaqueline Cristian 6-2 7-5.
The defending champion feared she would meet her nemesis, Jelena Ostapenko, who has remarkably beaten Swiatek in all six of their career meetings.

But Latvian Ostapenko, the 2017 winner in Paris, was beaten 6-2 6-2 by Elena Rybakina to rob Roland Garros of a grudge match for the ages in the last 16.
Asked if she had a preference about who to play, while the Ostapenko match was still in progress, Swiatek smiled: 'No. Am I a good liar? Let's say it doesn't matter, really. Oh my God. I couldn't play poker!'
Swiatek is without a title since this time last year and has slipped to number five in the world.
But the Pole has yet to run into any difficulty as she stretched her winning streak at Roland Garros to 24 matches.
Aryna Sabalenka, the top-ranked player by some distance, is many people's favourite to win her first French Open title.
But the Belarusian was keen to heap the pressure on to Swiatek's shoulders after beating Olga Danilovic 6-2 6-3.
'It's tough to predict in woman's tennis, you know,' she said.
'Let's just leave it on Iga since she won it, what, three times in a row, right? I will just leave it for her.'
Sabalenka will face American Amanda Anisimova, the 16th seed, on Sunday.
Last year's runner-up Jasmine Paolini, the fourth seed from Italy, is through after a 6-4 6-1 win over Ukrainian Yuliia Starodubtseva
Qinwen Zheng's match with Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was temporarily halted after a spectator injured themselves in the stands.
The Chinese eighth seed was a set and a break up at the time and eventually won 6-4 6-3.
In the men's draw, American 12th seed Tommy Paul came through his second five-setter this week, beating Russian Karen Khachanov 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7) 3-6 6-3.
Italian eighth seed Lorenzo Musetti dropped the first set against Argentina's Mariano Navone but went through in four.
In the night match, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz also needed four sets to beat Bosnian Damir Dzumhur.
The Spaniard won 6-1 6-3 4-6 6-4 and said: 'The first two sets were under control but then he decided to play deeper and more aggressive.

'My energy went down but I had to give everything I had inside. I'm proud to get the win in the end.
'That's why it's difficult to win grand slams, because you have to keep your focus over three or four hours.'
French 14th seed Arthur Fils has withdrawn from the tournament with a back injury, giving Russia's Andrey Rublev a walkover into round four.

Rangers owners 49ers get their chequebooks out for £22m bill as mega cost of World Cup hosting duties revealed
The 49ers Enterprises investment group have taken control of Rangers - but the American football giants will also have to fork out for the 2026 World Cup Rangers fans are dreaming of a glorious future under the banner of the 49ers Enterprises investment group – but the Ibrox club aren't all they're spending their money on. New Ibrox chairman Andrew Cavenagh has pledged to immediately inject £20million into the football department to help Russell Martin shape his squad ahead of the new season. Lyall Cameron has joined Gers from Dundee while full back Max Aarons has completed a loan switch from Bournemouth. And more are expected to follow with Leicester City defender Conor Coady in talks over a move north of the border while the likes of Dor Turgeman and Matija Frigan have been heavily linked. After years of turmoil, the Light Blues now look to be in good hands on the financial side of things, with health tycoon Cavenagh and vice chairman Paraag Marathe now working alongside CEO Patrick Stewart. 49ers Enterprises - who are the investment arm of the famed American Football (NFL) team San Francisco 49ers - also own Leeds United, and are set to splash the cash even further this summer to ensure the Yorkshire team enjoy a successful season back in the Premier League. But reports across the pond also now claim that 49ers chiefs could spent up to $30million (£21.9million) to host six matches at next year's FIFA World Cup. The 49ers will open their doors for six matches at the Levi's Stadium in Santa, Clara, California as the biggest show in town hits North America. Yardbarker state that hosting those games will cost the city $50million (£36.4million) and that 49ers will not be able to use taxpayer money to pay the bill. They add that in turn, FIFA will contribute $13million (£9.4million) of the overall figure and with the state of California coughing up $7- 8.5 million (£5-6million), the 49ers will have to front the rest of the bill, a total of around $30m (£22m). On top of that, the mega franchise are also in the midst of renovating Levi's Stadium ahead of the finals at reported cost of $200 million (£145.7million). As well as the World Cup, the Calafornia team will also host the Superbowl on February 8, 2026. It is the first time the Levi's Stadium has hosted the world famous event since 2015 and only the third time the sporting landmark has ever been held in the San Francisco Bay Area. Steve Cauthen salutes ‘mentor' Barry Hills with memories of special relationship
Although a Triple Crown-winning jockey Stateside, Cauthen was only 19 when owner Robert Sangster lured the 'Kentucky Kid' across the Atlantic in 1979, where the young American was given a crash course in British mannerisms but quickly inducted into the Hills fold with open arms. Cauthen told the PA news agency: 'I can't say enough good things about both Barry and (his wife) Penny and when I came over in 1979 they not only took me under their wing they took me into their house. 'They were wonderful to me, Barry took a day or two to get used to as he could be gruff at times, but he was always trying to just get the job done – Penny was great at helping me understand he wasn't necessarily mad at me! 'They always made sure I had everything I needed when they were shipping me off out of town or to Scotland or wherever, it was a great relationship. 'Barry taught me a lot and helped me grow up and helped me to get to the top in England. Barry made a big move from stable lad to trainer and was never going back and he would try to get everyone in the yard motivated to 'get off their arse' as he would say. 'He was a great horseman, but more than that he loved to have fun – he bought me my first set of golf clubs, he was a mentor and like a dad to me.' As well as their budding relationship off the track, Hills and Cauthen's association on it was also an immediate success as Tap On Wood secured 2000 Guineas glory in their very first Classic in unison. There would be many other great days together during their time, with the 65-year-old American never able to forget Gildoran providing the fitting finish to his time at Manton in the 1984 Ascot Gold Cup. Cauthen continued: 'Barry was a great trainer, but we had some ups and downs and when I first got there we won three or four Group races, including the 2000 Guineas, and then the horses got sick, which was a nightmare. 'The next year things weren't all that great, but we kept going and building and the winners at Ascot started to happen and Cormorant Wood came along and we would win some big races with her. 'Gildoran winning the Gold Cup at Ascot the last year I was with them was obviously a big moment being Mr Sangster's horse and it was an exciting day which capped off our six years together.' Cauthen would eventually head east to Newmarket to link up with Sir Henry Cecil, but he would never forget his adopted home and a friendship with the Hills family that has stood the test of time. He may no longer be able to reminisce with one of the outstanding trainers of his generation on his visits to the UK, but remains sure Hills' many words of wisdom will remain ringing in the ears of those closest to him. Cauthen said: 'We had some great times. There are so many funny stories down the years and it was tough for me to move to Henry Cecil. Even though it was the right thing for my career, it was a hard thing to do as I felt so close to Barry and Penny. 'We remained great friends and they are like family to me. I was honoured I was one of the first calls Michael (Hills) made after Barry died, as he knew how close we were. 'I would never go back to Britain without calling them and seeing when we could meet, it was always my number one priority. 'Penny and the family will miss him, but I'm sure he will still be with us all. We will never forget the stuff he would say and there will be situations where it will hit you right between the eyes and his words will pop into our heads.'
