KPJ Healthcare downgraded as valuations catch up: Analyst

KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Securities has downgraded KPJ Healthcare Bhd to a "Hold" from "Buy", saying the group's share price has largely priced in operational improvements and the new management's swift execution.
In a note to clients, analyst Walter Aw said KPJ Healthcare's stock, which has surged 26.5 per cent year-to-date, is now trading close to two standard deviations above its five-year forward average valuation.
"At current levels, we believe valuations have caught up with fundamentals. The stock is now trading at a premium compared to its larger peer IHH Healthcare Bhd, based on projected 2026 earnings," he said.
Despite the downgrade, the firm raised its sum-of-parts-based target price for KPJ Healthcare to RM3 from RM2.80 previously, reflecting a higher valuation multiple of 12.3 times for the group's hospital operations.
The group's first quarter core net profit rose 23.6 per cent year-on-year to RM63.3 million, in line with consensus estimates. Revenue climbed seven per cent to RM971.8 million on increased bed capacity and higher patient volume.
However, the results were weaker on a quarter-on-quarter basis, with core net profit down 48.2 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2024, due to seasonal trends.
Aw said earnings momentum is expected to pick up in subsequent quarters, supported by bed capacity expansion, improved cost controls and narrowing losses from five newer hospitals that are still in their gestation phase.
CIMB Securities projects KPJ Heatlcare's core net profit to grow 12.9 per cent year-on-year in 2025, with revenue forecasted to rise 9.1 per cent to RM4.28 billion.
The group's bottom line is expected to benefit from ongoing cost optimisation, better operating leverage, and a strategy to attract more patients by building centres of excellence and hiring more specialists.
Despite these growth levers, the firm warned of downside risks including lower-than-expected patient traffic, slower hospital ramp-ups and thinner margins.
KPJ Healthcare was last traded at RM2.72, giving it a market capitalisation of RM12.31 billion.

Bursa earnings to improve in 2H25 as market sentiment recovers, says CIMB

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Bhd's earnings are projected to recover in the second half of 2025 (2H25), driven by an anticipated rebound in average daily value (ADV) and improved policy visibility stemming from ongoing US reciprocal tariff negotiations, said CIMB Securities Research. Bursa reported a second quarter (Q2) 2025 net profit of RM57.1 million, marking a 16.6 per cent quarter on quarter (QoQ) decline. The dip was primarily driven by ADV and average daily contracts (ADC) falling 15.0 per cent and 10.1 per cent QoQ, respectively, compounded by a 7.5 per cent QoQ increase in staff costs. As a result, Bursa's net profit for the first half of 2025 (1H25) stood at RM125.5 million, reflecting a 19.3 per cent year-on-year (YoY) decline. Despite the softer performance, CIMB Securities noted that the results were broadly within expectations, meeting 47.3 per cent of its full-year FY25 forecast and 45.5 per cent of the consensus estimate. "We expect earnings to improve in 2H25F, supported by a recovery in ADV as market sentiment stabilises and policy clarity emerges from the ongoing US reciprocal tariff negotiations," it said. Meanwhile, CIMB Securities noted that a dividend per share (DPS) of 14 sen was declared, translating into a 90.3 per cent payout ratio. The firm said this is in line with its full-year DPS forecast of 31.1 sen. "We expect a higher payout in 2H25, consistent with our projection of improved earnings in 2H25," it added. CIMB Securities has maintained its Hold rating on Bursa Malaysia, with an unchanged target price of RM7.40.

Johor Specialist Hospital Performs Regions First Robot-Assisted Surgery On Cancer Patient

Johor Specialist Hospital announced that it has successfully performed the Southern region's first robotic-assisted hysterectomy with sentinel node biopsy for a patient with early-stage endometrial cancer (cancer of the uterine lining). This marks an important step in broadening minimally invasive care for women facing this condition. The surgery used a robotic system to remove the uterus while also identifying and sampling the 'sentinel' lymph nodes, which are the first nodes that could show signs of cancer spread. The procedure used fluorescence imaging to help guide the surgical team in identifying the correct lymph nodes. This targeted approach helps doctors collect key information during the same operation and may prevent the need for more extensive lymph node removal. Endometrial cancer is the most common cancer of the female reproductive system. For many patients who are older or living with conditions such as obesity, traditional open procedures carry higher risks and longer recovery periods. Robotic and other keyhole techniques are designed to make surgery gentler, which may mean smaller incisions, less blood loss and shorter recovery for suitable patients. Chin Keat Chyuan, President and Managing Director of KPJ Healthcare said 'This milestone reflects our focus on innovation under the KPJ Health System to benefit patients and strengthen clinical practice. By expanding access to safer, less invasive surgical techniques, we are supporting our 'Care for Life' purpose while equipping our hospitals and specialists with the tools and training they need for the future of healthcare.' Robotic surgery is increasingly used in Malaysia across different medical fields. At JSH, it is now applied in gynaecologic oncology as part of KPJ's Health System transformation journey to expand advanced surgical options across its network, including gynaecology, urology and general surgery. New Vietnam Deal Minimal Impact On Yinson's Bottom Line

CIMB Investment Bank Bhd (CIMB Securities) has reiterated a BUY call on Yinson Holdings Bhd with an unchanged target price of RM2.93, citing the group's latest contract win in Vietnam as a strategic boost to its long-term earnings visibility. The counter last traded at RM2.39. The house highlighted that Yinson, through a joint venture with PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), secured a contract to provide, charter, operate and maintain a floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel for the Block B Field offshore Vietnam. The deal, signed with Phu Quoc Petroleum Operating Company, carries a firm tenure of 14 years with an optional nine-year extension and is valued at approximately US$600 million over the full 23-year period. The Block B gas development project, which includes Blocks B&48/95 and 52/97, lies in shallow waters about 250km from Ca Mau Province and 400km from the O Mon Power Complex. CIMB Securities noted the project's location outside the disputed nine-dash line in the South China Sea reduces geopolitical risks, making it a secure investment. The development is expected to deliver over 5 billion cubic metres of gas annually to customers in southwest Vietnam, addressing the country's growing energy needs while contributing economic value to stakeholders. The new FSO, a double-hull vessel with storage capacity of about 350,000 barrels, will be built at shipyard facilities in Nantong, China, with first oil targeted for 3Q27. Incorporating dual-fuel technology for improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, the unit aligns with Yinson's sustainability goals. CIMB Securities said this marks Yinson's second FSO award in less than a year and its fourth collaboration with PTSC, reinforcing its standing as a leading independent offshore asset operator in the region. While the estimated capex for the project is about US$225 million, Yinson's 49% effective stake and an expected EBITDA margin of 85% could generate an internal rate of return of 9.3%, according to CIMB estimates. However, the house added that the contract's overall impact on Yinson's bottom line and SOP valuation will be minimal, with profit contribution projected between RM6 million and RM22 million over the contract term. CIMB Securities remains optimistic on Yinson's long-term prospects, supported by its sizeable US$19.6 billion order book, which includes potential extensions stretching to 2048. The research house also expects strong earnings growth in FY26 and FY27, driven by full-year contributions from three new floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) units — Maria Quiteria, Atlanta and Agogo.
