Mouni Roy gets candid about her upcoming spy thriller project ‘Salakaar'
Directed by Faruk Kabir and Produced by Sphereorigins and Mahir Films, Salakaar is a gripping espionage thriller, which is slated to release on Aug.8. She added: 'The camaraderie on set and the shared vision of the team made this journey unforgettable. I'm excited for the audience to see a side of me they haven't seen before and to be a part of a story that is as thrilling as it is meaningful.'
The makers on Monday unveiled the teaser, which is set across two timelines — 1978 and 2025. 'Salakaar' follows the story of an Indian spy and sets the stage for an intense drama, where old enemies resurface, and the past threatens to destroy the present. The series is a blend of history and suspense, making intelligence its biggest arsenal. It also stars Naveen Kasturia, Mouni Roy, Mukesh Rishi and Surya Sharma.
Inspired by real events, Salakaar is a story of a decorated spymaster who, driven by sheer mettle and crucial intelligence, successfully disarms enemy forces to safeguard national security. Faruk Kabir, director and co-writer, said: 'Salakaar is an intense spy thriller with a deeply emotional core - it is the legend of an extraordinary Indian spy. It's not about action for the sake of spectacle; it's about intelligence as strategy and silence as sacrifice.'
'It was an incredible experience working with Naveen, Mukesh ji and Mouni — they did absolute justice to their characters and added so much to each character. This series is my tribute to the unsung minds who fought not only with bullets, but with brilliance,' Kabir added. Naveen Kasturia said that Salakaar was an immense challenge, pushing me in unprecedented ways.
'Character-wise, portraying an individual of such astuteness and constant alertness, while living with the imminent danger of being an undercover operative in a foreign land, was a unique experience. One misstep could mean capture or worse.' 'Physically, it was my first foray into action, making it incredibly demanding. Indian brothers marry same woman in ancient custom
A pair of brothers in rural India have married the same woman, upholding an ancient custom and sparking criticism from a women's rights group after photos of the wedding went viral. Polyandry is banned in India but is legal in some of the tribal pockets, including Himalayan territories, allowing preservation of some ancient traditions. The grooms, Pradeep and Kapil Negi, married Sunita Chauhan in a three-day wedding witnessed by hundreds of villagers and relatives on July 12 in the Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh. During the ceremony, the trio from the Hatti tribe circled a fire considered sacred as villagers sang folksongs. "We followed the tradition publicly as we are proud of it and it was a joint decision," Pradeep said, according to the Press Trust of India news agency. His brother Kapil added: "We're ensuring support, stability and love for our wife as a united family." One of the brothers is a government employee and the other works overseas. Under the custom, the wife shifts between brothers on a mutually agreed schedule and the family raises the children together. The eldest brother is named the legal father. The All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA), a women's rights group, condemned the wedding. "Such acts of women's exploitation... go against the fundamental rights of a woman," AIDWA general secretary Mariam Dhawale told local media. Around 300,000 members of the Hatti tribe live in small villages in the remote Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Local lawmaker Harshwardhan Singh Chauhan defended the practice, saying polyandry has long been a tradition of the Sirmaur people. "We have a customary law to protect polyandry," he told reporters, after photos of the marriage went viral on social media. Japan is represented by three projects from established directors Shiraishi Kazuya, Fujita Naoya and Zhang Yaoyuan, with stories revolving around the realities of foreign laborers, a reclusive woman's struggle for identity, and a multifaceted view of what Japanese youth face today. Meanwhile, Alia lavished praise on debutant Ahaan Panday, actress Aneet Padda and Mohit Suri after their recently released film 'Saiyaara' opened to a great response. Alia took to her Instagram, and shared a picture of Ahaan, Aneet and Mohit Suri. Mohit and Alia are first cousins. Mohit's mother, Heena, is the sister of Mahesh Bhatt, who is Alia's father.
